25% Bonus Miles When You Transfer Amex Membership Rewards to Flying Blue

Right now, you'll get 25% bonus miles when you transfer Membership Rewards to your Flying Blue account. Typically, you'd receive 1,000 Flying Blue miles for every 1,000 Membership Rewards points. However, during this limited-time promotion, you'll receive a 25% bonus.

Here's what that 25% bonus looks like when you transfer Membership Rewards points:

  • 1,000 Membership Rewards points = 1,250 Flying Blue miles
  • 5,000 Membership Rewards points = 6,250 Flying Blue miles
  • 10,000 Membership Rewards points = 12,500 Flying Blue miles
  • 25,000 Membership Rewards points = 31,250 Flying Blue miles

How To Transfer Amex Membership Rewards to Your Flying Blue Account

Transferring your American Express Membership Rewards to an Amex partner is about as easy as it gets. The first step in transferring points to your Flying Blue account is to ensure you've linked your Flying Blue and Membership Rewards accounts. You can do this by logging in to your American Express account, selecting “Rewards”, and then navigating to American Express' list of transfer partners.

Once you've arrived on this page, you will see both programs that are already connected to your account and all other eligible transfer partners. If you see Flying Blue listed under “Your Programs”, you can begin transferring points to your account. If you have not yet linked your accounts, click the Flying Blue logo to begin the short process. Once you've successfully linked your accounts, you can begin transferring Membership Rewards points to Flying Blue.

You can transfer as few as 1,000 Membership Rewards points or as many as 999,999 points.

Best Ways to Redeem Flying Blue Miles

Flying Blue is the official frequent flyer program of Air France, KLM, Tarom, Air Calin, and Transavia. Not only can you use Flying Blue miles for travel on these airlines but Flying Blue miles can be used for travel on any airline that is a member of the SkyTeam alliance. This includes airlines like Delta, Aeromexico, China Airlines, and Korean Air Lines.

Here are some of the best uses of Flying Blue miles:

Flying Blue Promo Rewards

One of the best uses of Flying Blue miles is through the program's monthly discount program: Flying Blue Promo Rewards. Each month, Air France/KLM discounts the number of miles you need to book certain routes. The discount can be up to 50%, but recent promotions have only offered a 25% discount.

Still, this can lead to incredible pricing. For example, for flights booked during September, you can book flights from Boston to Amsterdam in economy for just 11,250 Flying Blue miles. Factoring in this 25% transfer bonus, you'll need to transfer just 9,000 Flying Blue miles to book!

U.S. to Europe in Business Class from 55k Miles One-way

Flying Blue's cheapest business class awards between the U.S. and Europe should price as low as 53,000 miles each way on many routes. However, we are finding most routes are pricing at a slightly more expensive 55k miles each way.

For example, you can fly from Chicago airport to Rome as few as 55,000 Flying Blue miles one-way in business class. During the transfer bonus, you only need to transfer 44k Membership Rewards points to book such an award!

Flying Blue from Chicago to Rome for 55k miles

During September, you can book some awards from North America to Europe in business class for just 48,750 Flying Blue miles thanks to Promo Rewards. But you'll need to fly from/to Mexico City to get this deal.

Combine this deal with this Flying Blue transfer bonus to book business class awards to Europe for just 39k Amex points!

U.S. to Asia in Business Class from 85k Miles One-way

Flying Blue is also a great way to book cheap awards to Asia. For example, you can book business class awards to Seoul for as few as 85,000 miles each way:

Interestingly, some of the cheapest options fly through Europe — even when there are transpacific options available. For example, you can book this 85,000-mile award for just 68k transferred Membership Rewards points during the transfer bonus. Or book a quicker Delta business class award for 102,000 miles each way (82k transferred points):

U.S. to North Africa in Business Class from 53k Miles One-way

Per Flying Blue's Miles Price Estimator, you can book award flights from New York JFK to Casablanca for as few as 53,000 Flying Blue miles each way. If you can find availability at that price, you'd need just 43k Membership Rewards points during this transfer bonus.

There are a number of other ways to use Flying Blue miles. Many of these redemptions are available through Flying Blue's website. However, I recommend calling Flying Blue's customer service line should you be interested in an itinerary that's not appearing on the website. There are numerous bookings that can only be made over the phone.

Flying Blue Expiration Policy

Your Flying Blue miles will expire if you don't have qualifying activity in the past 24 months. Unfortunately, transferring points to Flying Blue does not count as qualifying activity.

Flying Blue also utilizes a unique mileage expiration policy. Miles that are earned through flying can only be extended through flying activities. If you're looking for a way to extend your mileage expiration, you'll need to take a flight with Air France, KLM, with one of Flying Blue's SkyTeam partners. Or, you could extend the validity of your miles by spending on a Flying Blue co-branded credit card.

Because of these policies, make sure not to transfer Membership Rewards points to Flying Blue if you won't be able to use or extend them over the next two years. We recommend that you add your Flying Blue account to AwardWallet. The emails you will receive will help you keep track of your Flying Blue expiration date.

Flying Blue Transfer Bonus History

American Express has offered (at least) ten transfer bonuses to Flying Blue over the past five years:

In August 2021, Flying Blue directly offered a 30% transfer bonus when members transferred points from American Express to Flying Blue. Besides that, a 25% transfer bonus is the “typical” transfer bonus that we see between Membership Rewards and Flying Blue.

Bottom Line

If you're looking to travel to Europe anytime soon, this transfer bonus is a great way to top off your Flying Blue account. You'll receive 25% bonus Flying Blue miles when you transfer points from American Express Membership Rewards. With this 25% bonus, you'll be able to fly in business class between the U.S. and Europe or North Africa for as few as 44k Membership Rewards points. But you only have three weeks to take advantage of this transfer bonus.

  • I made a speculative transfer of 500k to Flying Blue since it’s the only reasonable transfer partner to access Skyteam awards. With 25% bonus it’s actually very competitive with any other Star Alliance or Oneworld programs.

  • Air France points are particularly worth it because cash fares can be very high and no one else operates the route at the same frequency. Take BHX-PAR, for example. There are 2 flights with Vueling usually at £80 return but only 2x a week vs Air France is easily £120+, rising to £200+ if you’re booking to fly within 2 weeks.

  • A good oppty with Anerican Express card holders. This option is much better than exchangin miles via American express awards…

  • Is this for US only or canada Amex as well?

  • except for the monthly specials, aren’t FB awards always cheaper on Virgin (which has a 30% transfer bonus).

    • I’m not sure that’s always the case. Perhaps for nonstop flights and on some routes. But I wouldn’t say that’s always the case.

  • Alva Chang says:

I just miss this, anyone know if there is another promote later Y2022 for transfer bonus from AMEX MR to FlyingBlue miles…

  • LAX-PPT is another really good redemption, as well.

  • 25% is always a strong consideration.

  • Richard Scott says:

Nice to see a bonus kicking around in Covid times. I hope to see more as they encourage us to travel again.

  • If you Brex acct – get 25% when you transfer Brex points to Avianca LifeMiles. I just did it earlier and the transfer was seamless and instant.

  • Leandro Cuvelo says:

    Thanks for the information!!
    Very usefull

  • Excellent bonus for flying to Europe

  • Too bad chase really does not have these offers nearly as much as Amex

  • Would love too book a flying blue flight with my chase points- hopefully they extend the same promo for transfering!

  • I wish there was a way to book La Premiere on points. That would be a dream redemption!

  • Has anyone ever flown KLM? What’s it like and is it better than JetBlue?

  • Why is it that all of these things seem to be for Amex and not Chase?

    • I’d say it’s because, unfortunately, AmEx is simply outcompeting Chase right now in this space. I’m not sure how Chase is doing with the pandemic, but AmEx was a winner financially. And, they’re acting like it, by pushing for more customers on multiple fronts.

      • Chase has been raising their annual fees for their CC. $550 for a travel card when people are barely traveling feels excessive even with the additional benefits.

  • I am planning for next summer already. I am hesitant about booking anything though. I am sure a lot ppl feel that way. I wonder if we will see several of these bonuses from Amex and maybe chase to bring down the total of points ppl have with them?

  • Is this limited only to U.S. cards or extended to another countries?

    • We haven’t been able to find a terms and conditions page for this promotion, so we can’t know for sure. I’d recommend checking the Flying Blue website for your country to see if this promotion is being advertised.

    • It is definitely not a worldwide promo, as far as I know.

  • I could not SEE immediately when this expires!!!!! Please PUT expiry dates on the first line at the top so it is easily logged from an email account!!!

    • When a promotion has a known end date, we always include it in the intro. In this case, the end date isn’t disclosed by Flying Blue.

  • I couldn’t work out whether this applies to only Amex US cards?

    • It seems to be only limited to Amex US cards. But, since Flying Blue doesn’t have a landing page for this promotion, we can’t be sure.

  • I think that this is one of the best uses of my Amex points

  • I have been accumulating TYP in Citi’s eco system. Why is it so RARE to see that Citi offers this kind of bonus transfer promotion ??

  • Would love to see a chase promo for flying blue transfers!

  • The new AF business class looks fantastic; I would love to try it out.

  • This looks like one of the best promo for FB. I’ve used the 25% one in the past and combined with the monthly FB reduced mileage promo, it was a fantastic deal, around 32000 MR points for a business class from North America to Europe.

  • I wish there were more credit cards transfer offers to Flying Blue program, especially for EU customers.

  • Maximiliano says:

Hello, this offer is valid for AMEX cards issued in Argentina?

    • JT Genter says:

Good question. It does not seem to be valid for cardholders in Argentina – as the promotion doesn’t show on Flying Blue’s website when I switch the country to Argentina.

  • For the business class product it is admittedly not a bad deal.

  • Fenspinbi says:

Yes, and this was my first flexible points transfer redemption, for biz on AF next May. Transferred 41000 MR points with the bonus and paid $271 out of pocket on my Amex Platinum, for a net of only 39645 MR points for the one-way (-41000 points spent + 1345 points earned). Thanks for the heads up!

  • Is this targeted? I checked 3 MR accounts and no 30% transfer bonus for Flying Blue.
