Our Take
This promotion is a no-brainer and only requires minimal effort to register and reply to an SMS to get 1,500 bonus points — you don't actually need to make any charges or redemptions.
Even though the points are not a game changer it is quick, easy, and you can convert them to Wyndham Rewards points at a ratio of 1:1. Wyndham charges 15,000 points per night for an award stay at any of its properties worldwide

No need to transfer points, La Quinta reward nights start at 6000 points.
I tried this but never got the text message (although I tried several times). I guess it is not for me. Oh well, thanks for the alert. I’m always looking for easy ways to get points, even if only a few.
Wow this it a nice easy addition to my points. Thanks for the article,
Nice and easy
That’s how I love my promotions!
Thanks
This offer isn’t new. It’s been around for a few years and suddenly this week bloggers are highlighting again for clickbait.
Not really clickbait when it provides tangible value. First time we saw it, so we covered it.
I was unaware of it too, as it seems a lot of people were. Definitely worth mentioning.
This was very easy to do and the points posted immediately.
When will the chain finally expand beyond the Americas?
Your guess is as good as mine — personally, I have no interest in their expansion but rather I’m more interested in the ability to transfer points to Wyndham.
I did it last time when they were offering it and never got the points. Was too lazy to chase them
@Howie Across 3 accounts, for a second time? My effort was an attempt to register for the program again, after having previously getting the bonus in 2016.
In answer to Sebastian’s question (for some reason I can’t reply directly to a comment), no this will almost certainly not work in Germany.
You need a US cellphone number. I got around this by giving that of a friend in the US, but when I tried to register my German issued DKB Hilton Honors Visa, it was not eligible.
Redeem Away functions by retro-crediting eligible transactions to the credit card. My guess is that the card has to be issued in the US to do this.
We’re looking into the commenting issue as well.
Thanks Howie. It seems to be working now. I tried again with the German card, but it doesn’t work.
So easy and posted to account immediately. Thanks!
LaQuinta does a lot of Twitter promos for free points as well. Follow them on Twitter to be kept aware of promos.
What the least amount of points needed for a free night?
It starts at 6,000 — Wyndham is 15,000 at any property.
@Howie Unfortunately, although the website indicated I should look for a text to respond to, to earn the 1500 point bonus, no text was ever forthcoming.
We got it across 3 numbers with no issue. Keep trying?
For some reason I thought they were merging with Wyndham? I guess it was more a partnership and transferring miles.
I’ve seen a few La Quintas around town and they look nice. Why not get points if you can for free and when you don’t have another choice and then move them to Wyndham or where ever?
Thanks! I was sad that I missed out last time, after I got an email from Wyndham about transferring points.
@rich coy says: “The one thing I don’t normally associate with points programs is free and easy.”
So true. Thanks for the almost belly laugh!
great deal
Thank you for information! Free stuff are always welcome 🙂
great option, but only with a US phone number 🙁
Nice offer!
Thank you for this information!
Thank you, it works. Another 1500 Wyndham points and very simple ones
Yes, procrastinating never helps in this game
Thanks. I better do it mnow, before more days go by, and this post drops off the first page and I forget about it.
I have taken advantage of this promotion. I had to join La Quinta Rewards but discovered they have a special category for military members. I am looking forward to the free 1500 points that I will transfer to Wyndham. I like La Quinta Hotels, but there are much better redemption options for Wyndham Hotels.
The one thing I don’t normally associate with points programs is free and easy. I’ll take em when I can get em.
Thanks for this. Who doesn’t love free stuff 🙂
Thanks! Nice and easy!
free is always good.
super easy.
thanks
I love this, Thank you Howie!
Just an FYI, I did this 2 months ago. My account summary shows:
YTD Points earned – 0
Account Adjustments – 1,500
YTD Bonus Points -0
Don’t know if this extends your LQ points expiration by 18 months, website says:
**La Quinta Returns never expire as long as your account remains active by earning points at least once every 18 months.
Did this same promo like a year ago so doesn’t seem you can do it again. Tried to un-do it and re-do it, but no points.
Nice, like the great Marriott Rewards campaign a little while back. 🙂
I never say no to free points. Worst case they will expire.
Great, thanks!
Is Wyndham rewards the only possible transfer partner?
No. there are airline partners as well — however, the transfer ratio isn’t particularly good.
Many thanks, always like free points!
Very easy!
Thanks for easy points!
Is it worth signing up for La Quinta rewards just for this?
Look at the program and decide for yourself. I say yes and I have no intent on using the points now — but who knows what the future holds.
Nice offer. Thank you for posting it.
I know, every day the same question, but: will this be available to german residents too?
So instead of asking the same question every day, why don’t you figure it out and let us know?
Is it worth signing up for LQ rewards just for this?
can you transfer the points to someone in the same household?
nope 🙁
Easy peasy! Who doesn’t love low hanging fruit?
Do these points transfer to any other program through points.com, etc?
You bet they do.
You can covert to Aeroplan and JetBlue. Been researching how I can transfer out of JetBlue or Aeroplan into La Quinta for a Wyndham transfer. For Aeroplan to La Quinta the ratio is 1:0.83 from JetBlue it’s 1:0.75. You do lose value in the transfer so you must crunch the numbers to make sure you’re still getting good value even with the exchange rate. Another way I’m looking at this is transferring MR points when there is a 30% bonus to Aeroplan so effectively it’s like a 1:1 ratio to La Quinta. Been looking at a New Years redemptions for an Wyndham resort in Aspen. Even with the exchange rate still getting over 4 cents per point.
Nice — thanks!
Free Points!
fo sho.
Thanks for the tip! Nice and easy.
Super easy! Thanks!
Since I do have Wyndham, this will come in handy for sure. Great post!
LQ first offered this promo in fall of 2016, and I participated. I presume that earning this bonus is once per lifetime? Or at least that their IT is better than to let folks unenroll , and then enroll again immediately to earn this bonus again.
Let us know.
Quick and easy!
Yes, a “no-brainer.”Free points are free points.” Thanks for the heads up.
Nice offer.
A couple of years ago there were several offers giving points to watch a video.
I don’t see anymore this kind of offer.
