For a limited time only, Air Berlin is offering Oneworld Ruby status through its Top Bonus frequent flyer program. The offer is valid to those who signup before the end of November 2016. Air Berlin is a member of the Oneworld global airline alliance, including American Airlines, British Airways, among others. The complete list of Oneworld member airlines.
Glancing at the Oneworld website, and what privileges are on offer to Ruby members, it becomes clear that this is quite a handy deal, especially if you are planning on traveling on American soon, or even any of the other Oneworld airlines. The key privileges are Priority Check-in, Preferred Seating, and Standby Priority. An added bonus for anyone planning on traveling on American Airlines is that AA offers Ruby members one free checked bag on all flights.
How it works
Air Berlin is basically upgrading all new members of its loyalty program to silver level, which equates to Oneworld Ruby status. The status will only last for four months, which is sufficient for regular flyers to earn status, or for those planning a few trips to enjoy the perks of the status for free.
The Catch
There is only one small glitch to signing up for the free status. Since Air Berlin is a German company and the offer is intended for German speakers, the website to signup for the offer is in German. While somewhat annoying for non-German speakers, it is relatively easy to overcome; you can use an online translator such as Google Translate to work your way around the offer. Alternatively, using the Chrome browser will automatically translate the page for you—making the process straightforward and simple.
Overall, this is a great deal to get some perks and reduce time at the airport for anyone planning on taking a few flights on Oneworld airlines during the next few months.

How do I link between airberlin and my aa account to take advantage of statusI’m new at this.
Once you have status with airberlin, simply enter that frequent flyer number into your AA bookings and you’ll receive the associated benefits. Both paid and award bookings will work and it isn’t limited to AA — it is every partner of airberlin that you can receive these benefits with — such as British Airways as well.
I signed up last week, any idea how long it will take to post? Have you successfully upgraded your status?
I personally have status from a different promotion earlier in the year, but based on what I’ve read from others is it should take about a week.
This is a really good deal to get Oneworld status without having to have fly beforehand.
I think Air Berlin also offer status through expenditure on their credit cards, but unfortunately think they are only available if you live in Germany.
Do you have to book within 4 months or travel within 4 months? I have a trip on AA in June.
You must travel when you have the status to receive all the benefits.
Free status seems like a pretty good deal count me in!
Free status? Sweet.
I did this quickly and easily. Now to book a flight to take advantage of the status!
Great tip. More stuff like this is much appreciated!
very interesting post. will google translate translate the whole page at a time?
Yes.
Cool! So easy to do and I can’t wait to use these perks on my next American Airlines flight!
