Brex Rewards are a transferable/flexible points currency like Chase Ultimate Rewards or American Express Membership Rewards. While lesser known, these points are worth earning and holding because of their variety of redemption options. Diversity is a good thing in your points portfolio.
However, one key downside is the exclusivity of the Brex Rewards program. While it used to be open to most small businesses, Brex has pivoted to more stringent requirements for who can open a Brex account. Unfortunately, this means that many people will not be able to participate in the program. Another downside is the March 2023 Brex Rewards devaluation.
Still, if you have a qualifying small business, it's worth understanding the program. Here's what you need to know about Brex Rewards, including how to earn and redeem points and which Brex transfer partners are best.

What Is the Brex Rewards Program?
Brex Rewards is the loyalty program of Brex, a fintech company. Along with its banking platform, Brex also offers a credit card: the Brex Cash and Card. Back in 2021, there was a lot of buzz about this card and its generous welcome offer. Since then, the Brex Rewards program has maintained a good level of interest, even though Brex changed who can qualify to open an account.
Before opening a Brex Card you must open a Brex Cash account. It's important to understand that Brex is geared toward corporations. Thus, personal applicants and sole proprietors without business incorporation paperwork are typically excluded from opening accounts.
Brex initially allowed many small businesses to open accounts but later closed them. Brex card applicants need an IRS-issued Employer Identification Number (EIN), valid U.S. incorporation paperwork, and a physical address, among other requirements. These hurdles exclude the majority of small businesses.
International business owners can apply for a Brex account, as well, though they are required to have a U.S. corporation and U.S. bank account, among other requirements. Brex also accepts applications from non-profit organizations; these must provide their 501(c)(3) articles of incorporation, bylaws, and two years of Form 990s.
Once you have a Brex Cash account set up, you can then apply for a Brex Rewards card that earns points.

How To Earn Brex Rewards Points
The main way to earn Brex Rewards points is through spending on the Brex Cash and Card. This card functions differently than most credit cards. Let's dig into how.
Brex Cash and Card
You can earn points from daily spending on the Brex Cash and Card. Purchases have the following earning structure: You can earn 7x on rideshare, 4x on Brex Travel, 3x at restaurants, 2x on software, and 1x Everything else.
The Brex Cash and Card is not a traditional credit card. Given that Brex caters to startups with limited operating and credit history, they have a unique way of determining your credit limit. In order to have money to spend on your card, you must have money in your Brex Cash account or provide sufficient visibility to Brex by connecting your corporate bank accounts through Plaid or another service.
A credit limit will be assigned based on the total cash balance Brex has visibility into and also based on the payment schedule (daily versus monthly). The Brex Cash and Card can settle daily. Your Brex card limit may be up to 20% of your available cash balance if you settle monthly, or up to 100% of your available cash balance for if you settle daily. Make sure you account for this in your spending patterns.
One of the best parts of Brex is that the account and the card have no annual or monthly fees, no foreign transaction fees, and no interest fees.

Brex incentives and promotions
Brex has promotions on its central rewards page (login required). These can include discounts on business services and extra point-earning opportunities. Scroll through the very long list (approximately 90 partners at the time of writing) of available promotions to see what might interest you. Be sure to note the promotion terms and what you can earn from them before enrolling.

How To Redeem Brex Rewards Points
Like many other transferable currencies, Brex Rewards provides various redemption options for your Brex points. Which you choose will largely determine the value that you obtain from points.

Get cash back
You can redeem your Brex Rewards for a fixed value of 0.6¢ each into your Brex Cash account or as a statement credit. The rewards are deposited into your Brex Cash account or applied immediately if you choose this option.
Brex points for cash back used to have a value of 1¢ each. Unfortunately, this changed when Brex devalued its program without notice in March 2023.

Book travel through the Brex portal
You can redeem your Brex points at a fixed value of 1¢ each when booking through Brex’s own travel portal. Options include both flights and hotels. Given the devaluation of cash redemptions, this is one way to get better value out of your points. You can search for flights after logging into your Brex account and navigating to the travel search page.

You’ll earn rewards on these flights since they are considered paid flights — not award redemptions. Earning points and miles on your trip makes this an even more advantageous redemption option. In the example travel search results, you can see the cash price of the airfare and the number of points required.

Buy gift cards
Buying gift cards is another fixed-value option for redeeming Brex points. You can redeem your points at 0.6¢ each for gift card purchases. Given that Brex Rewards have an equivalent cash redemption value, this isn't a great way to use your points. However, this redemption rate includes cards many would consider worth nearly cash value — including Target, Amazon, Uber, Airbnb, and Mastercard gift cards.
Gift card redemptions could also be a good way to clear orphaned points from your account. Branded gift cards can be purchased for as little as $0.01 (and up to $2,000). Meanwhile, Mastercard gift card redemptions require a minimum amount of $5 and a maximum of $5,000. Physical gift cards require a shipping fee of $3.

Brex cryptocurrency redemptions
In May 2021, Brex issued a press release announcing the ability to redeem Brex points for cryptocurrency. However, it seems Brex quietly removed this redemption option sometime during 2024.
Previously, Brex members could get the same value as cashback (0.6¢ each) when redeeming points for one of two cryptocurrency options: Bitcoin and Ethereum. Like with cash redemptions, Brex Rewards devalued crypto redemptions by 40% in 2023.
Transfer to travel partners
The value of your points will vary depending on how you redeem them, but this is likely to be the most valuable use of your points. Transferring points to airline partners should allow you to get more than 1¢ per Brex point in redemption value.
Factoring in the new transfer rate, you need to get around 1.5¢ per airline mile to get more than 1¢ per transferred Brex point. But you can find several currencies where AwardWallet members get at least this much out of their miles.
Brex Rewards Airline Transfer Partners
So, which airlines you can send your points to? At present, Brex has a total of seven airline transfer partners:
There is a mix of Oneworld, SkyTeam, Star Alliance, and non-alliance transfer partners here. This gives you a plethora of airline options available through partner bookings.
Points transfers occur at a 1,500 to 1,000 ratio. This is an unfortunate change from the original 1:1 transfer ratio. For existing Brex Rewards members, March 2023's devaluation was a massive blow.

The minimum points transfer is still 500 points. This is at least one upside. Being able to transfer any number of points makes Brex a great way of topping off your account with exactly the number of miles you need. Most other flexible rewards require a minimum of 1,000 points when transferring to airline and hotel loyalty programs.

How to transfer Brex Rewards points to airlines
One great feature of Brex Rewards points is their flexibility for points transfer redemption. You can transfer points from your Brex Rewards account to a loyalty program in the name of anyone listed in the Brex account. This is a huge plus since you can add users to your Brex account for free. For example, you can easily transfer points to family members’ airline accounts. Most other flexible points currencies don't allow this — at least not to this degree. This feature sets Brex Rewards apart.
To transfer points, head to the Brex Rewards “Marketplace” page, and click on “Redeem” under “Redeem your points for airline miles.”

From this page, select the airline partner you want to transfer your points to and fill out the required information, including the transfer amount.
How long does it take Brex Rewards points to transfer to airlines?
Your points should transfer to the airline partners within a week at the worst. Brex says transfers should process within one business day, though this isn't guaranteed. On the flip side, transfers sometimes process instantly.
History of Brex Rewards transfer bonuses
Brex Rewards has run several transfer bonuses in the past. Transfer bonuses are excellent because your miles become more valuable when sending them to your desired airline partner's loyalty program.
We have seen the following transfer bonuses:
- Avianca LifeMiles 25% bonus (ended July 2, 2021)
- Aeromexico Club Premier 20% bonus (ended August 8, 2021)
- Air France / KLM Flying Blue 20% bonus (ended August 8, 2021)
- Avianca LifeMiles 20% bonus (ended August 8, 2021)
- Cathay Pacific Asia Miles 20% bonus (ended August 8, 2021)
- Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer 20% bonus (ended August 8, 2021)
Given that it has been more than three years without a transfer bonus — not to mention the massive March 2023 devaluation — it seems unlikely Brex will offer one again.

Evaluating the Positives and Negatives of Brex Rewards
All programs have their strengths and weaknesses. Major weaknesses of Brex Rewards include reduced redemption rates. Plus, most small businesses won't qualify for the required Brex Cash account.
But there are things to like about Brex Rewards, including the flexibility of redemption and points transfer options.
Here’s a summary of the main negative and positive aspects of the points program:
Brex Rewards pros
- Multiple redemption options.
- Points transfer to airlines in all three major alliances.
- Points are redeemable at 1¢ each for Brex travel.
- Transfer points to other people’s loyalty accounts if they're listed in your Brex account.
- Transfer exactly the number of miles you need (as long as you transfer at least 500 points).
Even though you can’t combine Brex Rewards points with others, you can get around this by transferring points into others’ loyalty accounts. You can do this if that person is named on the Brex account, and adding users is free. This offers far more flexibility with who can redeem points than other flexible point programs.
As for strengths, multiple redemption options make Brex points worth holding for anyone looking to diversify. Even with a limited number of transfer partners, they cover a wide breadth of alliances and partnerships. This puts numerous flight options around the world within reach. It is extremely unfortunate that Brex decided to devalue its airline transfer ratios.

Brex Rewards cons
- Inaccessible to many businesses.
- Inability to combine points directly with other Brex accounts.
- Relatively low number of transfer partners and no hotel transfer partners.
- Points are worth less than 1 cent each when redeemed for cash or statement credits.
- You have to get at 1.7 cents per mile to make points transfer to airline partners worth it.
- History of no-notice devaluations.
The lack of hotel options and a limited number of airline programs likely make Brex points less valuable than points like American Express Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, or Citi ThankYou® Points. These other flexible points have more robust transfer partner options.
All these programs offer several transfer partners where you get a 1:1 or better transfer ratio and offer hotel partners in addition to airline partners. And all of them are available to personal and small business cardholders.
Of all the negative aspects of Brex Rewards, a no-notice devaluation of 40% hurts the most. This should serve as a warning to anyone interested in the program. Occasional devaluations are normal. However, not giving members notice is bad practice for a points program, not to mention making a devaluation of this magnitude.
Our Take
It seems unlikely that Brex Rewards points will ever overtake programs like American Express, Citi, or Chase. These programs have more transfer partners available and more options for earning mountains of points through credit card welcome offers. With Brex, the opportunities for earning points through welcome offers is extremely limited.
Additionally, Brex Rewards simply isn't geared toward most small businesses or even the general consumer. The focus on corporations and funded startups excludes many people who could open a small business credit card with other issuers. With no personal card options, the door is closed for the majority of the population.
Despite this, if you're among those eligible to open a Brex account, it could be a good idea to collect and hold Brex points. The diversity of redemption options is only an upside. If one transfer partner devalues its program, holding points that can transfer elsewhere offsets this. And the overall diversity in your points portfolio is a good thing.
Although Brex Rewards is a relative newcomer in the transferable points arena, it offers something worthwhile for points and miles enthusiasts who meet its qualifications.
