Here are the details on this status match opportunity — plus how to claim bonus Marriott bonus points with a Hertz rental.
Hertz Elite Status Overview
Hertz might not have the best ratings from the past few years, but plenty of travelers are still renting cars from the company. If you are a Hertz renter, it's always good to have elite status to enjoy extra perks. Better yet, it's extremely easy to get Hertz elite status.
Here's a look at the Hertz elite status tiers and the benefits offered:
Gold status
You'll earn Gold status just by signing up for Hertz's loyalty program. You can enjoy the following benefits:
- Earn one point per $1
- Free additional driver for a spouse or domestic partner
- Skip the counter at pick up and return
- A basic selection of cars
- No blackout rewards
- Earnings with other brands
- Use your points for returns, online auctions, and rewards — including Dream Car® rentals
Hertz Five Star status
After 10 rentals or $2,000 in spending, you will move up to Hertz Five Star elite status, which comes with the following benefits (in addition to Gold status benefits):
- Upgrades as available
- 25% bonus points
- A wider selection of cars
- Option to transfer points to select travel partners
Hertz President's Circle status
After 15 rentals or $3,000 in qualifying spending, you will reach top-tier President's Circle status, which comes with the following benefits (in addition to Five Star status benefits):
- Guaranteed upgrades (based on availability)
- 50% bonus points
- The widest selection of cars
- A dedicated call center line
Note that these perks are unrelated to the number of points you need for a free rental. Sadly, Hertz devalued award redemptions in 2022, and the program underwent even more changes in 2024.

How To Status Match from Marriott to Hertz
To status match from Marriott to Hertz, you first need to ensure you're enrolled in both programs. When you're ready, visit the Hertz status match page and put in your member number for both accounts. Your new status will activate within five business days.
This status match opportunity was previously a promotion that came and went, but now it seems the benefit is here to stay.
Which Hertz elite status tier will you get
Matches from Marriott to Hertz work as follows:
- Marriott Platinum Elite gets a fast track to Hertz Five Star
- Titanium Elite to Hertz Five Star
- Ambassador Elite to Hertz President's Circle
After enrolling, Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite members can get Hertz Five Star Elite status after seven rentals within a 12-month period instead of the typical requirement of 10 rentals. The status is valid for 12 months after the requirements are met.
Meanwhile, Marriott Titanium and Ambassador Elite members can claim Hertz Five Star or President's Circle Elite status, respectively. The Hertz status is valid as long as the member retains their Bonvoy Elite status. If your Marriott elite status changes, the change will reflect in your Hertz elite status within 30 days.

Score Bonus Marriott Points With a Hertz Rental
Marriott Bonvoy often has promotions for members to earn up to bonus points when booking a car rental through the Marriott rental car portal. The number of bonus points you earn usually depends on your rental agency and your Marriott Bonvoy elite status tier.
Presently, all Marriott Members can earn 500 points per Hertz rental. Elite members can earn an extra 200 — for a total of 700 Marriott points.

This status match is just one of the ways to claim rental elite status for free. While not everyone rents with Hertz, it's always good to have elite status benefits for any program. If you have a Marriott Bonvoy Elite status, you might as well use this status match for a free Hertz Elite status. Plus, you may be able to use your newfound Hertz status to gain status with other rental car programs.
If you don't have Bonvoy Ambassador Elite status but hold a Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card, you can now claim Hertz President's Circle as a permanent benefit.
