UPDATE: Hilton's AXON awards have now ended permanently and Hilton has finished its move to a dynamic award pricing system without an award chart.
We recently reported that Hilton had abolished its AXON awards on December 31, 2016. What was unsettling for most people was the fact that Hilton did not inform anybody, and quietly discontinued the awards. Well, it seems that the general unhappiness with the lack of communication about terminating the award has reached Hilton’s ears, and they listened. For fans of the AXON awards, they are now back for a limited period.
AXON Awards Are Back but Not for Long
Hilton has announced that you can still book the awards through February 15, 2017. While this isn’t much of a reprieve in terms of time, it still gives you a chance to redeem your points if you were planning on booking one of these awards. One thing to remember is that the 4-night AXON awards are tiered depending on the category of hotel you want to book.
Before you rush out and make your booking, make sure that the award makes sense, depending on the property it could be less expensive to book it not at the AXON discount. Also, if you have Elite status with Hilton, the 5th-night free perk could be more valuable for a redemption if you're staying five nights.
Conclusion
We'll take the reprieve, even if it isn't very long — some notice is better than nothing. It's good to see that Hilton responded in a positive manner, but still frustrating that notice still hasn't been sent out to any eligible cardmembers; something that either Hilton or American Express could easily do.

Fantastic, time to book before they disappear for good in February!
I am glad that Hilton gave everyone got a short reprieve. Ghost devaluations are always frustrating for loyal members of any program.
This seems to be a trend. They go and get rid of a benefit/loophole/whatever and then go back and give reprieve after some backlash.
Whats the pro in using these AXON? I did not get it – is it cheaper in a way?
AXON awards are particularly good in 2 scenarios. 1) When you want a 4-night award redemption and 2) when it is peak time and standard redemption rates are inflated
So if one is looking to book an AXON award, it means the price one gets through the AXON award could be lower than the regular rate but also higher, depending on what the regular rate is at the hotel, correct?
exactly, depending on if it is high or low season.
I decided to cx my Hilton AMEX cc’s after hearing the news about AXON. Still right call as I was always able to find better value other ways.
While loss of benefits is never a positive thing, at lease Hilton did the the correct thing and gave a bit of a reprieve.
