IHG has launched its Q3 2019 Accelerate promotion. Similar to other offerings in the past, the promotion is structured like a game, and you will receive bonus points for completing various tasks. The promotion requires registration and is valid for stays from September 1 through December 31, 2019.

Promotion Overview

Great Offers

IHG runs multiple versions of the promotion, with different people targeted with their own unique offers. Some are more lucrative than others, but generally, they all have some value and are worth completing either partly or fully. The key to a great Accelerate promotion is when each night counts towards meeting multiple offers. Take for instance this offer of up to 40,000 point bonus:

IHG accelerate

You can complete this offer by completing three two-night stays on weekends (for a total of six nights). Book your stays through the mobile app, and you complete task one; after your second-weekend stay (at a different IHG hotel than the first), you have completed tasks two and three, earning an additional 10,000 point “achievement” bonus. Finally, after you have completed your final weekend stay you have completed all the tasks and earned a total of 40,000 bonus points for six nights, which works out as ~6,667 bonus points per night, which is a great return.

When you evaluate your Accelerate promotion, always check if you can get each night to count towards multiple goals. Finally, always remember to check what offer your partner/spouse has been targeted for, to see if they have received a better offer.

Pathetic Offers

This quarter, we have also seen some shockingly bad offers put out by IHG. While some people have been offered bonus points in the mid-30K mark, others, including myself, have been targeted with a “measly” promotion only offering a 1,000-point bonus.

This promotion does not meet the standard customers expect; it is like IHG is telling some of its customers, “ Thanks, but we are good without you guys this quarter.” It will come as no surprise that I am not targeting any stays at IHG this quarter in light of their poor offering.

Our Take

It is always worth registering for the quarterly IHG Accelerate promotion since each rewards member is targeted individually. It only takes a few seconds to see if you have been offered something worthwhile. So if you have some upcoming stays, register and see what IHG serves up.

Did you get a good offer? We'd love to know what other versions of this promotion are out there, so please share in the comments.

  • I received the 40,000 point offer shown in the post.

  • Hmm I am not able to register for the promotion.
The website just says “please check out other available promotions”.
I wonder why I’m not able to participate in Accelerate…

  • I also received the 40,000 bonus point offer. I rarely stay at IHG hotels, so I guess they are trying to get some additional business. This promo will not get me to go out of my way to stay at IHG hote;s/.

  • My offer is dumb enough but simple:

    Double Your Stay
Earn double points on every stay, starting with your second stay, up to 40,000 bonus points

  • Thanks for the reminder to register!

  • IHG promotions have been pretty bad for a while now… this one ranks right there.

  • I registered for this offer, however my offer was not very good

  • I received the offer that allows me to earn up to 74,600 bonus points

  • Always appreciate a promo. Not the best offers but better than not having any.

  • My husband got the measly 1,000 point offer. Mine was slightly better, I suppose, getting double points on each stay starting with the 2nd stay (up to 40,000 extra points.)

  • Very nice offer that I got:

    16,200 Discover Our Brands
Stay at 3 brands and get 16,200 bonus points.
    12,600 Stay at Crowne Plaza®
Stay at 2 Crowne Plaza® hotel(s) and earn 12,600 bonus points.
    12,000 Saturday Stays Bonus
Stay 2 weekend(s), including a Saturday night and another night, and earn 12,000 bonus points.
4,500 Stay for Less and Earn
Book 1 stay(s) using Points & Cash and earn 4,500 bonus points. Points & Cash allows you to book Reward Nights with fewer points.
    6,600 Earn More, Faster
Earn 6,600 bonus points when you book 2 Bonus Points Package stay(s) and get to your next reward faster.
    51,900 Your Achievement Bonus
Complete 5 of the 5 offers and earn (an additional) 51,900 bonus points.

  • Until IHG honors elite status benefits, it doesn’t encourage me to stay with them.

  • cannot sign up!!
    Got this error message:
We appreciate your loyalty. Please see IHG® Rewards Club offers available now.

  • A slam dunk 59k for me. 7 night, 3 brands and 3 x HIX.

  • I got something weird: Get closer to the rewards you want when you stay 1 night and earn 1000 points.

    That’s all…

  • This is interesting. It is very game like as far as reaching multiple different milestones to get the different bonus point offerings.

  • Worst Accelerate I have ever seen. No more paid stays with IHG this year…

Somewhat surprising that they have gone towards “who cares” instead of “win back guests” with this promo…

  • Their hard product pales in comparison to Hampton inn in my opinion, but their reward system is so much easier to earn free stats. With platinum status I earned enough points for a one night stay in 6 night… . All while being upgraded from a standard room to a two room suite.

  • The 59K and 74K offers would actually entice me to shift some stays.

  • got a fairly underwhelming offer this time, its for 24500 points after some holiday inn stays (atleast 4 stays)

  • 8400 to stay at 2 Crowne Plazas, 4500 using points and 6600 for 2 bonus points packages.

  • I’m sticking with IHG because I got grandfathered into the $49 AF Chase card, but the points Accelerate offers have been measly of late.

  • Sounds like a great offer! Too bad it wasn’t available for me. any idea how to make it available or opt in for future promos?

  • I got up to 40K points where I get double points starting from the second stay.

  • argh. no more hotels stay right now. too bad. I do like to earn points with IHG. It’s nice to have them there. I just had a great redemption in Edinburgh.

I love when they do these promos. If a person has the credit card, I wonder if they could give any bonus? With just the promo I would probably use my Sapphire.

  • I had a very successful IHG quarter 1 (the total for all offers was around 140,000 and I completed all of them with very little changes to my original travel plans). After that IHG keeps giving me lemons. FIrst it was double points from second stay (Q2), and now it’s 1,000 points maximum (Q3)

  • I just noticed that they have one of those survey programs ( assume it is relatively new, since I don’t remember seeing it before). You get 1000 points for your first survet=y, and doing one once a year keeps your miles from expiring.

  • I got pretty mediocre offers:
Stay 2 weekend(s), including a Saturday night and another night, and earn 8,000 bonus points. Terms
Stay at 2 IHG® hotel(s) and earn 2,800 bonus points. Terms
Earn 12,000 bonus points when you book 2 stay(s) of 4 or more consecutive nights.

  • I have never had any offer from IHG that has been good enough to encourage even a single extra stay with them beyond what I would be doing anyway.

  • I have nothing against these kind of promo.
Anyway, I would prefere some more reasonable redemptions and not a continue devaluation of the programme.

  • I just want to be able to use the free award night for the year with the card. They have too many blackouts. Points seem worthless unles staying at a place no one wants to stay.

  • IHG redemptions certainly aren’t what they use to be but I’ve managed to get a few free nights that make it worth it to me.

  • Thanks for the post but I got no good offers. Not worth it.

  • My offer isn’t as good as it usually is, and one of the tasks is to stay two weekends, a tough one for a business traveler, but I’ll get over 40K for staying at 8 HIEs and 17 total nights. Not bad, and compatible with my usual and customary travel patterns (not the dreaded “stretch goal”)

  • Is this promotion still available?

  • Mine begins, “44,300 total bonus points”
