Etihad Airways announced a new promotion giving JetBlue TrueBlue members a 40% discount when they use their points to book Etihad economy awards to and from the U.S. and India. The promotion is valid for awards through October 31, 2024, but award space is disappearing fast. Here's what you need to know about this promotion, plus a look the bookable dates we're seeing.

JetBlue-Etihad Award Sale Key Terms

  • Receive an automatic 40% discount when using JetBlue TrueBlue points to book awards on Etihad Airways between the U.S. and India.
  • You must book awards and travel by October 31, 2024 to enjoy discounted pricing.
  • The promotion is valid for awards in economy only, not business or first class.

This discount will reflect automatically, so you won't need to enter a special promo code. Instead, just look for dates where one-way economy awards cost just 39,900 points.

Discounted Etihad Award Availability via JetBlue

This promotion has a mixed bag of award availability. Some routes have a healthy amount of space, while others only have two bookable days through the end of the travel period (October 31, 2024). Here's a snapshot of some of the availability we're seeing on a handful of routes:

U.S. to India

  • Boston (BOS) to Hyderabad (HYD): October 21, 27-28
  • Chicago (ORD) to Delhi (DEL): October 30-31
  • New York (JFK) to Jaipur (JAI): October 10, 14, 16, 31
  • New York (JFK) to Mumbai (BOM): October 10-19, 21-22, 30-31

Is It Worth Booking Discounted Etihad Economy Awards Through JetBlue?

Ultimately, the cash price of the flights determines whether this is a good deal. Take the flight from New York (JFK) to Mumbai (BOM) via Abu Dhabi (AUH). You can book the same flight for $539 instead of 39,900 plus taxes and fees. Crunching the numbers means you are redeeming your JetBlue points for an average value of 0.74 cents per point.

Consider that, on average, AwardWallet members have been able to leverage their JetBlue points for 1.24¢ per point. In this case, the 0.74 cents per point is nothing to write home about, and you are probably better off keeping your JetBlue points and paying cash.

How To Top off Your JetBlue TrueBlue Account

If you've found a date that works for you and don't have the TrueBlue points necessary to book, your best option is initiating a transfer from one of the airline's bank and travel partners. Presently, you can transfer the following rewards currencies to JetBlue:

While JetBlue does offer multiple credit cards that offer sign-up bonuses, there's likely not enough time to receive your card and meet the minimum spending requirements before this promotion ends or award space dries up — whichever comes first.

Our Take

While a 40% award discount sounds appealing at first blush, this promotion provides less-than-stellar value. Although 40% is a considerable discount, traveling between the U.S. and India for 39,900 points plus taxes and fees per way is only good value, not excellent. This is especially true if you consider the cash price of these tickets, which, in most cases, yield an abysmal return for your points.

Also, the offer is very last minute, so you will have to make your travel plans very quickly. Secondly, these are very long flights in economy, which also require a stop in the Middle East. Many points and miles fans prefer to keep their points and redeem them for aspiration premium cabin travel. But if you have TrueBlue points and this promotion has piqued your interest, you'll need to act fast.
