Earning JetBlue Points for Etihad Flights

The number of JetBlue points you earn for flights on Etihad is a multiplier of the distance flown. Your class of travel determines the exact multiplier. The cheapest eligible fares earn just 25% of the distance flown. However, flying in the jaw-dropping Etihad Residence will earn you a whopping 400%. You earn JetBlue points for flights on Etihad according to the table below:

Redeeming JetBlue Points for Etihad Flights

Presently, the redemption rates are a little vague; there is no published award chart. However, it seems awards on Etihad metal are subject to the following:

  • You can only book Etihad economy and business class awards with JetBlue TrueBlue points. You cannot book first-class or Residence awards.
  • Premium cabin awards are only available within 30 days of departure.

Searching the JetBlue site for pricing, we found that one-way awards from Abu Dhabi to Bangkok cost 39,000 points in economy and 69,000 points in business.

Interestingly, we found that the same pricing structure applies to flights from London to Abu Dhabi. Both flights cover a distance between 3,000 and 3,500 miles.

The price range increases on longer journeys, and we found flights from Abu Dhabi to Tokyo Haneda costing 49,000 points one-way in economy and 90,000 points each way in business class.

Looking at flights to the U.S., finding availability in business class is nearly impossible. However, we found one-way economy awards from Abu Dhabi to New York will set you back 59,900 points.

Earning Etihad Guest Miles for JetBlue Flights

Similar to JetBlue, the number of Etihad Guest miles you earn for flights on JetBlue is based on distance flown. The exact multiplier depends on the class of travel. However, the range is much smaller with Etihad. The lowest eligible fares earn you 25%, and the highest Mint fares earn you 130%. You earn Etihad Guest miles according to the table below:

Redeeming Etihad Guest Miles on JetBlue

When it comes to redeeming Etihad Guest miles for flights on JetBlue, you use the standard Etihad Guest partner award chart.

While the chart has pricing for flights over 6,000 miles, JetBlue does not operate flights anywhere near that distance. A quick glance at the table shows the following pricing for the longest JetBlue flights:

  • One-way transcontinental awards:
    • Economy awards cost 28,000–34,000 miles, depending on route length.
    • Business class awards cost 50,000–60,000 miles, depending on distance.
  • One-way transatlantic awards:
    • Economy awards cost 45,000 miles.
    • Business class costs 80,000 miles.

Final Thoughts

What's not to like about another partner with whom you can earn and redeem points? Whether you are a JetBlue TrueBlue or Etihad Guest member, it is exciting that you can now earn and burn with a partner that is so geographically distant from your parent program. The news is probably more exciting for JetBlue members, who could really boost their earning potential for overseas travel.
