It's that time of year! If you don't have the time or energy for in-store shopping, or you just want to get more bang for your buck, online shopping can be your best friend this season. Stay sane and earn more rewards points or cash back on your purchases by taking your holiday shopping online. Here's how.

5%-10% Cash Back with Category Bonuses

The Chase Freedom® & Discover it® Card‘s both offer 5% cash back on quarterly rotating categories, with their fourth quarter conveniently including online stores. To sweeten things even more, the Freedom Card just announced a special promotion of 10% cash back this quarter! That's double the standard 5% back.

Chase Freedom®

From November 23rd to December 31, 2015, you will earn 10% back with the Freedom Card on Amazon, Zappos,, and audible purchases. The 10% earning is capped at $1,500 in purchases, and you must activate by December 14, 2014.

If you maxed out this offer, you would receive $150 cash back. If you're more interested in travel rewards, you can combine your Freedom Card points with your Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card Ultimate Rewards accounts to book travel through their portal or transfer your points out to any of the Ultimate Rewards travel partners.

Discover it

The Discover it has 5% cash back earning this quarter at, department stores, and clothing stores. 5% cash back earning is capped at $1,500 in purchases.

Shopping Portals

Shopping portals are a great way to increase your earnings on purchases you're going to making anyway. Most rewards programs have shopping portals where you can earn mega miles per $1 just by clicking on their link to get to the online site where you want to shop.

For example, Chase Ultimate Rewards is currently offering 5 points per dollar at Nordstrom or 2 points per dollar on Apple purchases.

Chase Shop Ultimate Rewards Portal

And many of these shopping portals will be having holiday deals, so make sure to do a price comparison for the item you're looking to purchase, and then compare shopping portal bonuses for that store.

You can find these shopping portals by logging into your loyalty program accounts online. To make sure you're earning the best bonus, you can check EVreward, which compares shopping portals and shows which are offering the best bonuses.

Meet Minimum Spends

If you're going to be spending cash this holiday season, make sure that you stay within your means! But a good way to maximize your holiday spending is to time it while you're meeting a minimum spending requirement on a rewards card for a mega signup bonus.

Our top pick: The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card.

Whether you're shopping online for Christmas gifts, or taking advantage of Cyber Monday, Black Friday, or any other deals, these tips will help you maximize the rewards you earn on your purchases.
