The Qatar Airways stopover offer paused during the pandemic, but this program provides great value — while remaining relatively unknown. The deal is better than ever, though. Travelers can book a stopover to explore Doha for as little as $14 per person — or as little as $20 per person at a five-star hotel. Here's how.

Qatar Stopover Promotion Key Terms

The biggest “catch” to this stopover is that you need to book a flight through Qatar Airways (issued with a ticket number starting with 157). That means you can't book a Qatar stopover on award flights booked through other airlines — such as taking advantage of American Airlines AAdvantage sweet spot on Qatar Airways.

Other important terms:

  • Stopover prices start from $14 per person, based on double occupancy.
  • The promotion is only valid for Qatar Airways ticket holders with a minimum transit time of 12 hours in Doha.
  • You can book a maximum of four nights with this promotion.
  • Each stopover night is up to 24 hours.
  • The bookings are on a room-only basis.
  • You can add breakfast, tours, and hotel transfers for an additional fee.
  • You can select from three levels of accommodation.
  • With the promotion, maximum occupancy is two adults and one child below 11 years of age using existing bedding in a room.
  • Entry to Qatar is subject to standard visa requirements.

Promotion Accommodation Levels

Qatar Airways is offering three levels of accommodation with the promotion:

  • Standard 4-star properties.
  • Premium 5-star properties.
  • Luxury 5-star properties.

Pricing varies. The cheapest option is one night in a 4-star hotel, starting at $14 per person. Or splurge for up to 4 nights in a luxury 5-star property for $325 per person.

Simply put, the pricing here is outstanding. If you are looking to explore Doha on a budget, then $14 is virtually unbeatable. Conversely, if you want to relax in luxury for a few days during your travels, then four nights starting at $99 per person per night at a 5-star luxury hotel is also a solid deal.

How to Book Qatar Stopover

Depending on what country you're departing from, you may be able to book a stopover along with your flight here. The list of eligible countries is quite long (but doesn't include the U.S.):

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, the United Kingdom and Vietnam.

Otherwise, you'll need to book your flights first and then book your stopover hotel through this Discover Qatar stopover page. You'll need to provide your Qatar Airways ticket number (starting with 157) to complete the booking.

Our Take

This promotion makes more sense than when it started a few years ago and is even cheaper now. Back then, stopovers started at $86 per night. Now, the same deal starts from $14 per night, which is an outstanding value. Add the exceptional value to Qatar Privilege Club switching to Avios and the deal gets even sweeter.

Flying Qatar — especially if you are in Qsuite — having a great deal on a stopover, and then transferring your Avios to British Airways or Iberia is about as good as it gets.

  • Does anyone know if a stopover could be booked on each leg of a round trip if desired? Like Ireland to Dubai return with a 2 day stop over in Doha with each flight segment?

    Thanks!

  • Does the stopover offer apply to award flight bookings too, or just flights bought with cash? There is nothing in the offer description to indicate that award flight bookings would not be eligible.

If so, then this offer is super sweet. Point.me very often shows low priced Qatar award availability to a lot of places around the world, with plane change in Doha.

  • can you do this with existing QR reservations or AA awards?

    • JT Genter says:

It seems designed for new bookings. However the terms do note “you can book your flight first, then click the stopover link on the booking confirmation page or email to book your stopover hotel package directly with Discover Qatar.” So, it seems that you might be able to add it to existing QR reservations – but I’m not sure about AA awards.

      • I had this same question – flying QA – but booked on AA miles.

Can’t seem to find a definative answer to whether or not I can use this stopover benefit.

anyone KNOW for sure? (traveling sept 2023)
