The Citi Rewards+® Card is out, and the Citi Strata℠ Card is in. Beyond the new name and a fresh coat of paint (literally), this no-annual-fee card is getting a major overhaul. And many of the changes are kicking in on July 20, 2025.

Here’s a breakdown of what’s changing with the Citi Rewards+, for better and for worse.

What's Changing With the Citi Rewards+?

The Citi Rewards+ was due for a refresh, and it's getting a big one. In an email to cardholders, Citi outlined several upcoming changes to its no-annual-fee ThankYou® Rewards-earning card. Some of them add value, while others take it away.

So, what exactly is changing? Here's a high-level overview:

  • Earning rates: The new card will be much more rewarding for a broader range of purchases, thanks to expanded bonus categories.
    • Old: 2X points at supermarkets and gas stations (up to $6,000/year), then 1X on all other purchases
    • New: 5X on Citi Travel bookings; 3X on supermarkets, gas/EV stations, select transit, and one self-selected category (choose from fitness clubs, select streaming services, live entertainment, cosmetic stores/barber shops/hair salons, or pet supply stores); 2X at restaurants; 1X on everything else
  • Eliminated benefits: Two key perks will dissapear:
    • The automatic round-up to the nearest 10 points on purchases
    • 10% points rebate on the first 100,000 ThankYou Points redeemed each calendar year
  • New name: The card is getting a rebrand from “Citi Rewards+® Card” to the “Citi Strata℠ Card.”
  • New design: A new look is coming, too. The Citi Strata will feature a white finish with silver trim.

As for what’s not changing, the card will remain a no-annual-fee product. And it'll continue offering access to three transfer partners: JetBlue, Choice, and Wyndham. That said, Citi plans to devalue the transfer ratios for these partners starting July 27, 2025, and this card won’t be exempt from those changes.

When are the Citi Strata changes taking effect?

The Citi Rewards+ will officially be discontinued on July 20, 2025 — the same day the Citi Strata changes take effect. If you're a current Citi Rewards+ cardholder, your account will automatically be transitioned to the new Citi Strata Card on that date.

If you're considering picking up the new card to pair with another no-annual-fee Citi card or the mid-tier Citi Strata Premier℠ Card, you might wonder when applications will reopen. Citi hasn’t announced an official application date yet, but it’s expected to launch later this summer.

Even better, the relaunch will come with a limited-time welcome bonus. You’ll be eligible for it if you haven’t received a new applicant bonus for a Citi Rewards+ in the past 48 months or converted another Citi card (on which you earned a bonus within the last 48 months) into a Citi Strata or Citi Rewards+ account.

Final Thoughts

The Citi Strata Card is replacing the Citi Rewards+, and the changes (there are quite a few!) are a bit of a mixed bag. The new version will offer more rewarding earning rates across a broader range of categories, but it will lose two lucrative perks: the 10% points rebate and the automatic round-up feature.

If you're a current Citi Rewards+ cardholder, you can continue using your existing benefits until July 20, 2025. On that date, your account will be transitioned to the Citi Strata. For prospective applicants, the card is expected to reopen for new applications later this summer.
