How to transfer Membership Rewards points to Hilton

To transfer Membership Rewards points to Hilton Honors, log in to your Membership Rewards account and go to the “Rewards & Benefits” section.

Once there, select “Transfer Points.” A new page will load showing the American Express transfer partners. There are several airline and hotel programs to choose from.

After choosing Hilton, enter your partner account information and the number of points you wish to transfer.

You must transfer at least 1,000 Membership Rewards points.

Although the Hilton points could take up to five business days to appear in your account, transfers are typically immediate based on AwardWallet user data.

American Express occasionally offers transfer bonuses to Hilton Honors, sometimes in the 30% range. These promotions can improve the value you get when transferring Membership Rewards points for a specific Hilton redemption. However, it’s generally best to avoid speculative transfers without a near-term use in mind.

In recent redemptions, Hilton points typically are worth 0.61¢ each, while Membership Rewards points are worth around 2¢ each. So even with a 30% transfer bonus, the value of the Hilton points gained is not as much as the potential from utilizing other Membership Rewards transfer partners.

Only use this option when you just need a few extra Hilton points to lock in a high-value stay — like the Conrad Bora Bora Nui.

Other point transfers to Hilton

Bilt Rewards and Virgin Atlantic also transfer to Hilton. However, the transfer ratio of these is worse than transfers from the Membership Rewards program. It's best not to use these options unless you have an exceptional case — say, a large number of points in one of these programs that you do not plan to use anytime soon.

If you want to transfer from these programs to Hilton, log in to the reward programs’ website to link your accounts. You can then transfer the points into your Hilton balance.

You can also call the rewards program's customer service line for help transferring the points to Hilton.

Hilton Airline Transfer Partners

Once you've built up a stash of Hilton Honors points, you have other redemption options beyond hotel stays. One of these options is transferring points to airline partners.

While this is generally a poor value, there are circumstances when you may want to transfer your Hilton Honors points to airline miles. For example, if you are flush with Hilton points but need a few extra miles in your airline rewards program to get you on a trip.

Otherwise, we generally wouldn’t recommend transferring Hilton points to airline partners, as the transfer ratios tend to offer poor value:

How To Transfer Hilton Points to Another Person

If you're working with a Player Two, friends, or family members, Hilton also lets you transfer points between accounts to combine balances for an award stay.

To transfer Hilton points to another member, visit the Hilton Honors transfers page. From there, enter the number of points you wish to transfer along with the recipient's Hilton Honors account information. The recipient must already have a Hilton Honors account before you can submit a transfer.

Transfers are limited to six per calendar year, so it’s best to wait until you actually need to combine points instead of moving them around speculatively.

There are also annual caps: Members can send up to 500,000 Hilton points and receive up to 2 million points per calendar year across transfers and pooling combined.

Another option is using Hilton's points pooling. This is especially great for groups. You can create a pool of up to 10 people through Hilton's Pooling page. Each person can contribute points toward a shared redemption.

Pooling transactions follow the same annual limits as standard point transfers.

Bottom Line

Typically, it is best to spend on Hilton credit cards or stay at Hilton properties to get lots of Hilton Honors points. But having the flexibility to transfer from other points currencies to finish off reserving an award stay can be critical. Or even topping off a flight award by transferring from your Hilton points stash to certain airline programs.

Always do the math first to make sure using these alternative options is the right decision for you!

Tip of The Day
Did you know that you have a personal referral link in your AwardWallet profile? If you invite people to AwardWallet using your referral link, you will receive an AwardWallet upgrade coupon for every five members you invite. Also, if these users upgrade to AwardWallet Plus, we will credit your AwardWallet account with AwardWallet Bonus points, which can be redeemed for points and miles in your program of choice. We spend roughly 50% of the revenue we receive from those referrals to purchase those miles for you. All of this can be tracked via the Invite to AwardWallet widget in the left navigation bar on your Accounts page.
