Editor's note: Uber closed its rewards program at the end of 2022.
Uber has launched its own loyalty program, Uber Rewards. Like most loyalty programs, it has various status levels (four in this case), and the ability to earn points and redeem them. You redeem your points for Uber cash, which is added automatically to your cash balance.
Earning Rates
You earn Uber Rewards at the following rates:
- Earn one point for every eligible dollar you spend on Uber Eats and Pool trips
- Earn two points for every eligible dollar you spend on UberX, UberXL, or Select
- Earn three points for every eligible dollar you spend on Black and Black SUV trips
Redeeming Points
Redeeming your Uber points is relatively simple. Every 500 points are converted to $5 of Uber cash. That is then added to your normal cash balance.
Program Levels
The new program will have four levels; Blue, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond. To qualify for status, you need to reach the following number of points:
- Blue: 0 points
- Gold: 500 points
- Platinum: 2,500 points
- Diamond: 7,500 points
The program offers a host of perks and benefits depending on your level. Elite members receive the following:
The highlight of the perks of the program are free cancelations, price protection on a route, priority airport pickups, and complimentary upgrades.
Our Take
The loyalty program is a nice idea; however, it has not got us reaching for our phones to book the next Uber. The program is useful, and the ability to earn and burn points is good, but it’s not very likely to influence loyalty in the way an airline, hotel, or credit card rewards program can.

Glad to see they are doing something to retain loyal customers. Will definitely try to obtain some points and $ credit
Let’s see how it works out!
I tried looking for the sign up in Canada, but no luck
Not bad, but it won’t keep me “LOYAL”. If lyft is cheaper I’ll go Lyft, points or no points
Tried to sign up, but not available in my area. Anyone know how long of a time to expect to be on the “waiting list”?
Curious, if, anyone knows if the points expire after a period of time?
sounds like a great program!!!
Great initiative from Uber. It would be interesting if they could crossover with Uber Eats and offer advantages linked to both services.
The limited incentives aren’t going to make me use Uber more.
I will certainly join so that I can earn points on whatever rides I do take with Uber, but since Lyft lets me earn both Delta and Jetblue miles and every driver I have spoken to says that Lyft treats them better, I will continue to favor Lyft.
I miss the days when we could earn SPG points with Uber. (I miss the days when we could earn SPG points at all.)
Nice idea. Roughly, 1% discount on top of any other discounts (credit card points, discount vouchers, etc), but I agree, it won’t make me travel more with them.
Nice job uber
Add whatever credit card you use to Sears Holdings Shop Your Way program for $2 in points on each ride.
Correction: I looked, and you link your UBER account to your Shop Your Way account to get $ in Sears/Kmart points (while they last). Not the credit card.
I’d love to join but they pulled out of SE Asia. Sadly, Grab, to whom they sold the business, doesn’t provide as good a user experience.
I disagree.
If Uber has a loyalty program and Lyft doesn’t, I’m going Uber
We get $15 free uber credit for owning AMEX platinum card. Earning additional points on uber rewards sounds not bad.
A couple of HSBC cards also offer UBER credits.
Love the competition to start all these different rewards programs.
seems like a great idea looks like its going to be a city by city roll out so will probably take some time 🙁
great!. getting points from uber.
we use uber occasionally, so this is a plus.
Yes, might as well get a bonus!
Gives me more motivation to use Uber.
Are loyalty rewards retroactive?
Only in worlds with Unicorns 🙁
I would rather use Lyft for the airline points!
I do not like the excessive judging / evaluation / rating aspect between then passengers and drivers. It will be so nice if truly authentic Japanese-style taxi service is available worldwide.
Shouldn’t price protection on a route be available for all members?
Something doesn’t feel right.
meh. I will still choose uber vs lyft based on price.
I suspect we will see a similar rewards program from Uber’s competitors soon enough!
Offering a points program is an incentive for many to use Uber for sure.
Yeah? I can’t really see this being a motivator in driving any significant amount of new business to Uber. At best, this is likely a nice *little* perk for existing users
Wouldn’t make me switch my use but any reward program can be a plus to users.
I agree. Nice to have if you’re using Uber anyway, but 2% cash back is not worth going out of your way for.
Currently, you can add $100 of Uber Cash for a $90 payment in the app
On top of that, there is a base 1% cashback for all reward tiers ($5 every $500 spent).
So seems to me that you start off with a base discount of 6% cashback, with any tier based rewards over and above that.
Reps from Uber were asked repeatedly how their loyalty program can become a powerful customer retention tool like airline and hotel loyalty programs on Bloomberg TV.
It’s great to see Uber get into the rewards game.
Interesting. Might as well get some points for using Uber.
I’ll use it, but agree it won’t influence my decision to take/not take Uber. Here’s hoping Uber makes a profit someday (not a $1bil loss like announced last week…..).
Where does Uber VIP from Amex Platinum stand in the new program?
Is this USA only?
Currently and I believe only in some USA markets.
