AAdvantage has launched its “be a Holiday Hero” promotion where you can receive up to 50,000 bonus miles for completing partner activities. The promotion runs through December 31, 2018, and to participate you need to register. The promotion is structured like a game, and the more activities you complete with various partners, the more bonus points you will earn.
Key Terms
- Promotion is valid through December 31, 2018, 11:59 p.m. CT
- You need to register to earn up to 50,000 bonus AAdvantage miles
- You need to complete tasks with AA partners to earn various levels of bonus miles

- Purchasing miles counts as a partner activity. However, only 50,000 miles can count towards the promotion

Our Take
This promotion could be quite lucrative if you were already planning on making some purchases with AA partners. However, before you jump into the deep end, you need to read the terms and conditions carefully since AA has made this promotion pretty complicated!

It seems you do not get any miles for downloading the app. Feel that would have been a good first tier.
do you get any miles for just downloading the app???
thx
If you need to extend your expiration date, it’s worth the effort
Or just leave a comment on the AwardWallet blog. Even easier.
Just did shopping with a lot of extra bonus miles (some at 10X) with AAshopping. Lo and behold – I got those extra miles. It was actually easier than I thought with some strategic use of the AAshopping portal.
Nice that they do promotions, but the thresholds seem very high considering that a hotel stay yields only 250 miles.
I’m confused – do you have to go category by categoty?
Not so easy to reach.
Too much effort, too little return.
So what happens if you already have the AA app??
I signed up for this promotion, but I agree with most of the posters that it is really too complicated. I’ll just continue with my normal points-earning activity and if I happen to earn a few extra points through this bonus, it will be great.
Agreed. It does seem too much work, too little return unless already planning to purchase from the promoting companies.
I like the game nature of these kind of promotions!
I’m confused – do you have to go tier by tier????
Makes me long for the Old US Air Grand Slam promo…..
Quite difficult to fulfil the conditions for the bonus.
Moreover, the number of partners is very limited.
Wow, it’s great that AA provides quite a great deals of offers to earn bonus miles. This is definitely one of the good motivations to plan a journey with AA.
As much as I love to get AA miles, this is too complicated
PASS
Nope. Not for me. I always have too much going on over the holidays to worry with one more thing to babysit.
AA promotions never fail to please us ? Though I’m sure it will be hard to meet all the requirements
I recall the holiday promotion last year seemed easier to meet. The one this year is complicated.
lots of requirements.. I hope some folks can capitalize on the deal!
I agree with what many others have said; this is a complicated promotion and likely not worth the effort for most folks.
Curious, are there any bonus points for just downloading the app? Or are the only bonus points associated with the app, if, you also garner another 10K from partners?
We just registered, although I don’t know how much if any we will do.
I agree with others. Good promotion if one had already planned to do most of the activities listed. Too much otherwise.
Not bad if you are already planning on doing some of these.
I like the Bank Direct promotion. That one seems the easiest. Just park some money there and earn points!
I looked at that a while ago, and, it seemed that the. keeping your money in a bank in the high interest range was worth more than the miles,
As mentioned in the blog, it is a great deal if we are already planning on buying from AA partners. Otherwise, it doesn’t seem to worth the effort, especially when the rules are not straightforward.
This is a complicated promotion and the list of partners you are required to use is really not that extensive. Seems like too much work for too little reward.
Unrealistic for me. I did try the Vinesse Wine when they offered a bonus. The wine was good and it was worth it, as long as you’re like me, and never forget to cancel. Have an email reminder set up just in case.
I agree. Not sure I could meet all the criteria that is required.
I’ll be lucky if I can get past the first one – have to earn 10K in miles in such a short period. But we shall see….
This is crazy complicated.
But I’m guessing that buying 50K miles during a bonus promo would tick off the first three levels? (app, charity and a flight being relatively straightforward)
is it worth it?
sounds too much effort for the bonus.
Agreed, not worth pursuing if one is not already planning to complete the qualifying activities… for those that are though, could be quite lucrative.
