When you see the word “enhancement” in the same sentence as Delta you might shiver — we usually do too, but this is good news. Delta has further integrated their relationship with Aeromexico. Effective May 8, 2017, Medallion Members will receive additional benefits when traveling with Aeromexico, as a part of Delta and Aeromexico's growing partnership. The new perk comes hot on the heels of the deal Delta and Aeromexico announced with the Mexican National Team.
The deal adds another dimension to the partnership between Delta and Aeromexico; currently, Delta Medallions are eligible for free checked bags, complimentary lounge access, and also priority boarding. When it comes to earning you also get full MQM earnings on all tickets, as per the Delta SkyMiles Partner mileage earning chart.
What are the New Benefits?
- Medallion Members will be eligible for Complimentary Upgrades on all intra-Mexico Aeromexico flights, as well as Aeromexico flights between Mexico and the U.S., Central America, Caribbean, Colombia, and Ecuador.
- Medallion Members will now receive Complimentary Upgrades based on their individual Medallion Status (starting with Diamond, then Platinum, Gold, and Silver) instead of SkyTeam Elite status, better recognizing the loyalty of our Medallion Members.
- Medallion Members will be automatically added to the airport standby list for these flights, as long as their SkyMiles number is added to the reservation.
NOTE: Medallion Members will be eligible for upgrades after all Club Premier Members have cleared.
Our Take
This is exactly where there is value in partnerships. This does come shortly after Delta upping their ownership stake in Aeromexico to 49% of the company. Throw in the fact that Delta and Aeromexico are operating out of the same terminals in NY and soon also LA, and transitions between both should be very smooth. Who knows what the future holds for this relationship, but with such a significant stake in Aeromexico, you can be sure that Delta will be further investing in this relationship.

Good partnership but not sure if it really helps me get to flying Delta!
Interesting, do you know if its possible to “spend” your way to elite through cc spend or something?
Good to know.
Pretty cool, hopefully this will expand to more airlines.
finally something good about Delta
Does Delta have similar arrangements with any other programs?
Not do this degree. They previously had an agreement in place with Alaska, but that has since terminated.
Complimentary upgrade is awesome!
Doesnt do anything to change my opinon of Delta’s award system
I don’t have any Delta status yet but as I’m moving soon to a Delta dominated airport, this might be something I can enjoy in the future.
good news from a bad program.
A definitely good partnership in my opinion. Think I will be able get some value out of this!
This partnership looks awesome! I definitely will take advantage of it!
It’s always nice to see partnerships working towards positive enhancements, even if relatively minimal in the grand scheme of things. Good on Delta and AM.
