In “news you might've overlooked,” Capital One recently announced one card moving from Visa to Mastercard and another moving from Mastercard to Visa. Mostly, that news doesn't matter for the average person.

However, we wondered if some of the benefits might change, given that benefits are often tied to the type of card you're carrying (ex: Visa Infinite or World Elite Mastercard). We reached out to Capital One and now can confirm that this change will result in the loss of a benefit. It comes by way of Priority Pass restaurant access for Capital One Venture X Business applicants.

Venture X Business Losing Priority Pass Restaurant Access

Those keeping track at home will realize that this isn't the first mention of this benefit — not even the first mention in recent weeks. Let's get up to speed:

Whew, that's a lot. To help you keep this all sorted, we've compiled a list of which credit cards have access to Priority Pass restaurants.

All of that brings us to where we are today.

The Venture X Business moved from Mastercard to Visa in late April 2024. Take note that the cards slashing Priority Pass restaurant access in the past year have all been Visa cards, which triggered our suspicions. Now, a spokesperson for Capital One has confirmed that new applicants for the Venture X Business “will no longer receive access to the non-lounge airport experiences on Priority Pass through their program membership benefits.”

But what about existing cardholders? Will they be sent new cards or lose their benefits as well? “At this time, there are no plans to change this benefit for existing Venture X Business cardholders,” according to the same spokesperson.

In short, if you've already got the Venture X Business, you can use it to visit Priority Pass restaurants. If you apply from May 2024 onward, no dice.

Bottom Line

Existing Venture X Business cardholders will now enjoy a benefit that new applicants (from May 2024 onward) won't: getting a free meal at the airport through Priority Pass restaurants. That's a bit of an odd situation for people holding the same card to enjoy different perks, but that's where we are. While there are no plans to change this benefit for existing cardholders “at this time,” I'll be here to say I wasn't surprised if it does go away in the next few months.
