Getting to Know the Virgin Atlantic Award Chart

Virgin Atlantic divides up its calendar into standard dates and peak dates.

Standard Date Pricing

The standard date calendar is as follows:

Virgin Atlantic award standard dates

U.K. <-> U.S. Northeast (Boston, Newark, New York JFK, Washington D.C.)

  • Economy awards: 20,000 Virgin points round-trip (or 10,000 points round-trip after the award rebate)
  • Premium Economy: 35,000 Virgin points round-trip (or 17,500 points round-trip after the award rebate)
  • Upper Class: 95,000 Virgin points round-trip (or 47,500 points round-trip after the award rebate)

U.K. <-> U.S. Midwest & South (Atlanta, Miami, Orlando, Tampa)

  • Economy awards: 25,000 Virgin points round-trip (or 12,500 points round-trip after the award rebate)
  • Premium Economy: 45,000 Virgin points round-trip (or 22,500 points round-trip after the award rebate)
  • Upper Class: 95,000 Virgin points round-trip (or 47,500 points round-trip after the award rebate)

U.K. <-> U.S. West (Austin, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle)

  • Economy awards: 30,000 Virgin points round-trip (or 15,000 points after the award rebate)
  • Premium Economy: 55,000 Virgin points round-trip (or 27,500 points after the award rebate)
  • Upper Class: 135,000 Virgin points round-trip (or 67,500 points after the award rebate)

U.K. <-> Caribbean

  • Economy awards: 20,000 Virgin points round-trip (or 10,000 points after the award rebate)
  • Premium Economy: 35,000 Virgin points round-trip (or 17,500 points after the award rebate)
  • Upper Class awards: 115,000 Virgin points round-trip (or 57,500 points after the award rebate)

There is some incredible value to be had with this offer. Round-trip transatlantic awards starting from 10,000 points in economy is excellent value. And a round-trip award in Virgin's Upper Class to the Northeast or Midwest and South for 47,500 points is hard to beat points-wise.

However, high taxes and fees on awards is definitely going to eat into the value. And unfortunately, you won't get a rebate for 50% of the taxes and fees.

Peak Date Pricing

The peak date calendar is as follows:

Virgin Atlantic award peak dates

U.K. <-> U.S. Northeast (Boston, Newark, New York JFK, Washington DC)

  • Economy awards: 40,000 Virgin points round-trip (or 20,000 points after the award rebate)
  • Premium Economy: 55,000 Virgin points round-trip (or 27,500 points after the award rebate)
  • Upper Class awards: 115,000 Virgin points round-trip (or 57,500 points after the award rebate)

U.K. <-> U.S. Midwest & South (Atlanta, Miami, Orlando, Tampa)

  • Economy awards: 45,000 Virgin points round-trip (or 22,500 points after the award rebate)
  • Premium Economy: 65,000 Virgin points round-trip (or 32,500 points after the award rebate)
  • Upper Class awards: 115,000 Virgin points round-trip (or 57,500 points after the award rebate)

U.K. <-> U.S. West (Austin, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle)

  • Economy awards: 50,000 Virgin points round-trip (or 25,000 points after the award rebate)
  • Premium Economy: 75,000 Virgin points round-trip (or 37,500 points after the award rebate)
  • Upper Class awards: 155,000 Virgin points round-trip (or 77,500 points after the award rebate)

U.K. <-> Caribbean

  • Economy awards: 40,000 Virgin points round-trip (or 20,000 points after the award rebate)
  • Premium Economy: 55,000 Virgin points round-trip (or 27,500 points after the award rebate)
  • Upper Class: 135,000 Virgin points round-trip (or 67,500 points after the award rebate)

Even though the peak dates are substantially more expensive, there is still value to be found. Flights in Upper Class from the West Coast to London from 77,500 points round-trip are a bargain points-wise. Again Upper Class awards from the Midwest and South to the U.K. from 57,500 points round-trip is a fantastic value — if you don't mind paying the taxes and fees associated with the award.

Boosting your Virgin Flying Club Mileage Balance

Building up your Virgin Atlantic Flying Club mileage balance is about as easy as it gets. The carrier is one of a handful that you can transfer every major flexible points currency to one way or another. You can transfer all of the following points currencies to Virgin Flying Club.

If you noticed that Capital One is not on the list, that is because you cannot transfer your points directly. However, you can transfer Capital One Miles to Virgin Red at a ratio of 1:1. After that, you can link your Virgin accounts and seamlessly move your points between them.

On the other hand, if you are still short and need to purchase some Virgin Atlantic points. Then why not take advantage of the current Virgin promotion? Now through November 18, 2022, U.S. members can buy Virgin points for 1.57 cents apiece — or even cheaper if you're based in the U.K. or Europe.

Our Take

This Virgin Atlantic award rebate promotion offers fantastic value if you can make it work with your travel plans. If you have some transatlantic travel plans during the promotion period, then it is worth the effort to take some time to see if you can make this promotion work for you in terms of dates and availability.

The main downside with this offer — as with all Virgin Atlantic awards — are the high fees. So, make sure that you factor in these fees when considering your options.
