Credit card rewards are valuable on their own, but they become even more valuable when you can combine them within the same ecosystem or share them with friends and family. If you're a fan of Capital One Venture miles from Capital One business cards, you'll be glad to know you can do just that.

Capital One lets cardholders combine miles earned from Capital One Venture cards and Capital One Venture Business cards (formerly Spark Miles cards) into a single account. Plus, you can share your miles with any other account holder and even convert your cash-back earnings into miles.

And the icing on the cake is that all of this can be done for free. Compared to other flexible rewards currencies, Capital One sets the standard for transfer policies, letting you pool rewards with anyone you choose.

Takeaways for Sharing Capital One Miles

  • You can combine miles from any Venture-branded card (personal or business) into a single account.
  • You can transfer miles between business and personal accounts, as long as both are miles-earning accounts.
  • You can transfer miles to any other Capital One miles-earning account, though this must be done over the phone.
  • There’s no maximum cap on the number of miles you can transfer.
  • There are no transfer fees.

As long as the person you're transferring to holds a miles-earning Capital One card, you can move rewards to their account with no cap and no transfer fee.

Additionally, if you have earned cash back on the Spark Cash cards or Savor cards and also hold a miles-earning card, you can convert that cash back into miles. This unlocks the ability to transfer miles to other Capital One members or to one of Capital One’s airline or hotel partners.

Transferring to another Capital One member

To transfer miles to another Capital One member, call the number on the back of your card. You’ll need to provide the name and full card number of the person you want to transfer miles to.

The Capital One representative will verify your personal information and ask for the recipient’s name, card number, and the number of miles you want to transfer. They’ll then confirm the details and ask for your permission to complete the transfer. Once submitted, the transfer is instant.

To see miles transferred from you to someone else, log on to your Capital One account, click “View Rewards,” and then “Redemptions.” You will see the miles transferred out.

The ease of transfer makes it effortless to top off a friend or family member’s account if they plan to transfer miles to a partner program for an award redemption. It's also useful for transferring miles to whoever holds the highest elite status with an airline or hotel partner.

Final Thoughts

The ability to combine miles with any other account holder at no cost and with no limits is an attractive feature of Capital One’s rewards program. The lack of restrictions on sharing miles is a unique benefit, making it a compelling alternative to Chase, Citi, and Amex.

    this doesnt work right now

  • YK1 says:

How can you transfer Cap 1 miles into spouse’s FF account? He is an authorized user (and account manager for what’s it worth) but does not have a separate Cap1 account? With Chase and Amex you can easily do it since with Chase he is a family member living in the same household and with Amex he is an authorized user. But Cap1?

  • Steph says:

Capital One points are NO LONGER AVAILABLE to share to someone else. :/

    • JT Genter says:

Did you call Capital One and try to transfer points to another cardholder? Unfortunately it looks like Capital One never got around to adding the online transfer option.

  • J. says:

Any way to retrieve miles that were lost when a capital one card was closed?

  • Mike says:

This is a great addition to capital one.

  • vpk says:

Good to know! Our primary cards are CapOne Venture and Chase Sapphire Reserve. We recently relocated and I’m doing less travel, so the CSR may or may not remain the best card for me. This is another positive for CapOne.

  • Igor says:

Glad to hear they are becoming more competitive but even with this new benefit I don’t see myself jumping in. Too many other “better” programs out there.

  • EC says:

Nice to see an objectively positive headline for a change! 🙂 And, see all the overwhelming positive comments that predictably followed!

  • jc says:

I love capital one cards! This is worth getting.

  • ron_vaughn@hotmail.com says:

new benefits are always good news!

  • Tonia says:

I only have MBNA and AE cards. Will the Capital One improvement put pressure on other card issuers to do the same for their cards. I am thinking of cancelled my MBNA cards and apply the Capital ONe. I do not want to own too many credit cards. Any suggestions?

    • Erik Paquet says:

Hey Tonia, I definitely understand not wanting to have too many cards. Before you close any accounts, I’d recommend checking out this post on how your credit score is calculated. https://awardwallet.com/credit-cards/tips-managing-credit-score/

It can actually hurt your score to close a card, especially if the card is one of the oldest in your account history, or you have a large credit line relative to your other accounts.

Smaller banks like MBNA are likely never going to try to compete with CapOne on rewards, so you’ll want to look at the major issuers for points that will help you save on travel.

  • z says:

Capital One venture is worth looking at.

  • Mara says:

Good news. Just wish we could move worthless to us GMC $ over to points/miles/cash!

  • Susan says:

    Nice perk but no Cap1

  • Maryjane says:

This is a great perk and really brings the Capital One cards into line with the other flexible currency cards — and in some circumstances it will make it a more valuable card. My only gripe is how difficult it seems for me to be approved for their cards.

  • M says:

I am always trying to figure out what to do with these points…thanks for the info.

  • Mol-dawg says:

I love that you can use the miles with different airlines. Its so frustrating paying yearly fees for multiple cards because you travel to a lot of different destinations and want the cheapest flight.

  • tonia says:

It would be nice if other credit cards providers do the same. Let the members to merger the miles of different levels. It is too confused to have different miles of the same credit card providers.

  • Chris says:

    Nice benefit for card holders.

  • Matt says:

Capital One just keeps getting better.

Now Capital One Canada needs to take some notes.

  • arshi007 says:

Looks like Captial One is trying to jump big time into attracting the frequent traveler community. I’m glad as competition is always good. I’m still on the fence about diving into yet another “currency”. I’ve already got the MR/TY/UR points to deal with but they are certainly tempting me with these benefits that seem to be standing them apart compared to the usual 3.

  • elliot siegel says:

this is very very helpful feature, hopefully they will include the online functionality soon

  • Tim says:

Excellent, Thank you for the review!!

  • Robert says:

This is good news! I hope others will consider allowing this also, but I won’t hold my breath.

  • Caroline says:

I’ve been a long-time Capital One fan and this makes it so much better for multiple card holders. Way to step up above the competition.

  • jm p says:

This is a reason to celebrate!
    Thanks for sharing!

  • Megan says:

This is great to hear! Thanks.

  • Leon says:

Smart move by Capital One. I have a personal Capital One credit card and another company Capital One card .But they have different reward miles. I think lots of travellers like me have more than one Capital One cards but different reward miles. Now I am free to combines the miles and even with my family members. A big praise for Capital One listening to his members. Any comment?

  • JL says:

Wow this is too good to be true.
    Very nice…thanks for the post!

  • charles j says:

Thanks. I’ll add it to my list of JetBlue family pooling and Hyatt points.

  • Darren says:

Wow. That’s quite unusual but I won’t complain.

  • KareK says:

A good move in the another direction. Since I am the only one in my family that does the points and miles thing, it doesn’t help me any.
I hope this spreads to Chase, Citi, etc. Would be a nice perk.

  • jc says:

    following Chase’s footstep, go capitalone!!

  • ron_vaughn@hotmail.com says:

good news, makes their cards look better.

  • Josh s. says:

    Pooling is always good!

  • Mike says:

This seems like a great benefit for Cap 1 users. Wish they had additional earning opportunities.

  • Guy says:

AwardWallet made my life so much easier. We are a family of four frequent travelers, each with maybe a dozen airline accounts. Keeping track of some 40 (!) award programs used to be a nightmare. Now it’s all there, updated automatically and comparable at a glance. Huzzah!

  • z says:

Wow, hopefully the miles pooling feature will be adopted by other cards.

  • Ed says:

Hopefully the competition will match this offer. Both my family and friends have too many orphan miles!

  • Chris says:

Great benefit for cardholders – C1 really trying to take the lead with customer friendly policies….not that it is hard to do that in many respects!
