Japan Airlines just launched a new lucrative promotion. You can earn up to 10,000 bonus Japan Airlines Mileage Bank miles per segment on select transpacific flights.

If you're already planning to visit Japan in the next few months, you'll definitely want to register to earn some bonus miles. Here's everything you need to know.

JAL Transpacific Flight Promotion

The JAL transpacific flight bonus miles promotion lets eligible JAL Mileage Bank members earn up to 10,000 bonus miles per segment on select routes between the U.S. and Japan. You must register by December 31, 2026, and travel can occur through March 4, 2027. Registration is required before flight departure.

Once you register, book directly on JAL’s American Region website (jal.co.jp), and your bonus miles will automatically be credited to your account along with your standard earnings. The terms and conditions don't mention a maximum number of miles you can earn through this promotion. If you frequently fly between Japan and the U.S., you can significantly boost your Mileage Bank balance.

Your earnings depend on your fare class:

  • Business class: Earn 10,000 bonus miles per segment
  • Premium economy: Earn 5,000 bonus miles per segment
  • Economy: Earn 2,500 bonus miles per segment

If you can score a good deal on a paid JAL fare, you can end up earning quite a few miles on your trip.

This covers virtually all of Japan Airlines' routes between the continental U.S. and Japan. Unfortunately, flights between Japan and Hawaii are not eligible.

Stack Your Earnings

While we all love award sales, I think there's something special about a promotion that allows you to earn bonus miles. When you use one of the best credit cards for travel purchases, you'll essentially earn three times: credit card points for booking your ticket, your standard earnings for flying JAL, and bonus miles through this promotion.

Here are a few of our top choices for booking flights:

You earn JAL miles based on distance flown and fare class. For instance, if you book a full-fare business class ticket from New York to Tokyo, you'll earn 8,424 miles. With this promotion, you'll earn 10,000 bonus miles, for a total of 18,424 JAL miles each way.

If you used your Platinum Card® to book your ticket, you'd earn 5X points. If your ticket was $2,500 each way, you'll earn 12,500 Membership Rewards points. All in all, earning over 18k JAL miles and over 12k Membership Rewards points on a flight you were already going to book is definitely a plus.

Bottom Line

If you were already planning on visiting Japan between now and March 4, 2027, and you love flying JAL, this is a no-brainer promotion to take advantage of. Should you go out of your way to earn up to 10,000 bonus miles per segment? Certainly not, but if Japan is on your bucket list, now might be a great time to book a ticket.
