The state of Hawaii is now under its unprecedented third hurricane warning of the year, having already dealt with the effects of Hurricanes Lala and Lowell this season. Now, American Airlines is partnering with the American Red Cross to support relief efforts. To encourage donations, the airline is offering 10X AAdvantage miles on donations made to the Red Cross.

Here's how to donate to support hurricane relief efforts and claim your bonus miles.

Earn 10X AAdvantage Miles on Hurricane Relief Donations to the Red Cross

American Airlines AAdvantage members who donate to the Red Cross will get 10 AAdvantage miles for every dollar they donate. To claim the bonus miles, members must donate a minimum of $25. However, there's no upper limit on how much members can donate to receive 10X miles. Donations must be received by October 22, 2026 to earn bonus miles.

Getting 10X miles per $1 donated is effectively buying AAdvantage miles for 10 cents each. If you're only interested in generating miles, you might utilize the current buy American Airlines miles promotion to buy them for a quarter of the price. However, this offer is about supporting the Red Cross hurricane relief efforts and getting a nice reward for doing so.

The American National Red Cross is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, so contributions are tax-deductible for Americans.

How to donate to the Red Cross and earn AAdvantage miles

To donate, click this link to visit the Red Cross and add your donation amount. In the payment section, choose credit card, PayPal, or Google Pay, and also add your AAdvantage number.

Note that if you want to donate to the Red Cross but not specifically to hurricane relief, you can also select “disaster relief,” which goes where aid is needed most. However, it's likely that most of the donations will probably go to hurricane relief at this time.

Note that the smallest donation you can make online is $10. However, to earn 10X AAdvantage miles per dollar donated, you need to donate at least $25. And again, donations are tax-deductible — less the value of the miles you receive.

Please do keep in mind that the bonus miles you'll earn do not count as Loyalty Points. So they don't qualify toward earning elite status.

Our Take

If you're keen to help with the hurricane relief efforts, this is an excellent way to do so while also getting a nice reward. Earning 10X miles is a great offer while supporting a vital cause. Just remember that you must donate at least $25 to earn bonus miles.

When making donations with a credit card, make sure to use one of the best cards for everyday purchases — such as the Citi Double Cash® Card (Rates & Fees) — or an AAdvantage credit card to earn additional AAdvantage miles.
