If you hold several premium credit cards, you know that organizing and maximizing all of your available statement credits can feel like a part-time job. Each credit expires at a different time and comes with various rules and restrictions to keep in mind to ensure your purchase is eligible for the credit. Unfortunately, your job is about to get a little bit more difficult.
American Express just announced a change to the Resy credit offered to select cardholders, effective August 1, 2026. While we aren't sure of the full extent of the change, it will mean you'll need to spend more time researching to ensure your desired restaurant is eligible.
Here's what you need to know.
What Is the Amex Resy Credit?
American Express is known for offering a variety of statement credits that cardholders can use to save money on everything from gym memberships to shopping and dining out. One such credit is the Resy credit, which is offered on six different American Express cards.
When you use your enrolled, eligible card to make a qualifying purchase at a U.S. Resy restaurant, you will get a statement credit. This is a great way to offset the cost of a special celebration or to make going out to eat a bit more accessible.
The value of the credit, and how frequently it's doled out, depends on your card:
- American Express Platinum Card®: $100 quarterly credit
- American Express® Gold Card: $50 semi-annual credit
- Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card: $20 monthly credit
- Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card: $10 monthly credit
- Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card: $20 monthly credit
- Delta SkyMiles® Platinum Business American Express Card: $10 monthly credit
Enrollment is required for select Amex benefits.

Changes to the Amex Resy Credit Coming Soon
I am a Platinum Card® holder, and in my most recent statement, I saw the following notice:
“Update to the Resy Credit Benefit
Effective August 1, 2026, U.S. restaurants and other food and beverage establishments (e.g., wineries, cafes) must be indicated as eligible for the Resy Credit on Resy.com or the Resy app at the time of purchase to qualify for the benefit. Qualifying restaurants and other food and beverage establishments will be indicated as eligible on their booking page on Resy.com or the Resy app and are subject to change at any time.”
Now, when you go to the dedicated Amex/Resy webpage, you'll see new language that mimics this update under the FAQ:
“Use your enrolled Basic or Additional Card to pay to dine at a qualifying U.S. Resy restaurant and other food and beverage establishments that are indicated as eligible for the Resy Credit on their booking pages on Resy.com or the Resy app at the time of purchase, or to make other eligible Resy purchases.”
Individual Resy restaurants now have a disclaimer on their pages — “Qualifies for Resy Credit” — indicating they are eligible.

However, at least for now, every Resy restaurant that we've looked at shows this disclaimer. Considering this new change doesn't go into effect until August 1, that isn't surprising. That means there's no way to tell how impactful this change will be.
In August, things might look the same as they do today, or there might be hundreds of restaurants that suddenly no longer qualify for the credit. Or maybe Resy plans to introduce new types of establishments on the platform, and this disclaimer is nothing more than a way to differentiate restaurants from other businesses that will use Resy.
As of now, this is all speculation, so we will have to wait until August 1 to see the damage.
Bottom Line
Unfortunately, there's no way to know if this will actually be a meaningful change. At the very least, you'll now need to double-check that the restaurant you wish to dine at displays the eligibility banner before you go out to eat. At the worst, the number of available restaurants will significantly decrease. We will be sure to update this story once the change takes effect in August.
