It feels wonderful to be rewarded for your loyalty. If you're a budget traveler, you might be focused on finding the most affordable plane ticket or hotel stay on the market. However, it can sometimes make sense to stay loyal to one or two brands. As you work your way up the elite status ladder, you can receive a number of perks — such as complimentary upgrades, free baggage, late checkout, and more.

Select airline and hotel brands allow you to gift elite status to friends and family once you've made it to the top tiers. If you want to share the wealth, here are 12 airlines and four hotels that allow you to gift elite status to others.

Which Airlines Let You Gift Elite Status?

If you have elite status with any of these 12 airlines, you may be able to gift it to a friend or family member. Here's what to know.

Air Canada Aeroplan

Starting on January 1, 2026, there will be changes to how you earn Air Canada Aeroplan elite status. The airline is following the lead of many U.S. airlines in moving to a spend-based system.

As a perk of holding Aeroplan Elite 50K, 75K, and Super Elite status, you can choose a select benefit. One of these benefits is a status pass. While you aren't technically gifting elite status, you are gifting all of the benefits associated with having elite status to someone for one trip, such as:

  • Three complimentary checked bags
  • Priority airport check-in, security clearance, boarding, and baggage handling
  • Maple Leaf Lounge and Air Canada Café access

Note that perks you'd typically associate with elite status — like complimentary upgrades — are not on this list.

Although Air Canada Aeroplan has five tiers of elite status, only the top three have the option of gifting status passes:

  • Aeroplan 50K: Two passes if chosen as a Select Benefit
  • Aeroplan 75K: Three passes if chosen as a Select Benefit
  • Aeroplan Super Elite: Two passes as a Core Benefit, and four additional passes if chosen as a Select Benefit

You can gift a status pass to anyone as long as they have an existing reservation on the books. The recipient and their travel companions will enjoy the benefits of having status throughout their entire trip.

Keep in mind that new cardmembers of the Aeroplan® Credit Card can enjoy Aeroplan 25K automatically for the remainder of the calendar year, plus the following calendar year. You can keep status by spending $15,000 on your card throughout the year, or upgrade to Aeroplan 35K Status by spending $75,000 in a calendar year.

  • Aeroplan 75K: Gift Aeroplan 35K status
  • Aeroplan Super Elite: Gift Aeroplan 50K status

If you want to go this route, you'll also need to choose the elite status gift as a select benefit.

Alaska Airlines Atmos Rewards

Alaska Airlines has dominated the news cycle throughout 2025 as a result of its merger with Hawaiian Airlines and the launch of a combined loyalty program, Atmos Rewards. Unique to Alaska Airlines is the ability to choose how you earn points. You can either earn 1 status point per mile flown, 5 status points per $1 spent, or 500 status points for each flight segment flown. You can change your option once per year, so think in advance which one might be the most lucrative.

Every time you reach a milestone, you receive new benefits. For example, when you reach 10K (10,000 status points), you can try Atmos Silver for yourself for a trip. Once you reach 55K, which is the milestone between earning Atmos Gold and Atmos Platinum status, you will be able to gift the benefits of status to a friend for a trip.

  • 55K: Gift Atmost Silver status to a friend for a trip
  • 85K: Gift Atmos Gold to a friend for a trip, or nominate (gift) someone for Atmos Silver status
  • 100K: Nominate (gift) someone for Atmos Gold status

You can only choose one or two rewards per milestone. So, if you choose to nominate someone for Atmos Silver when you reach 85K (85,000 status points) you might sacrifice things like lounge passes, bonus points, or upgrade certificates.

If you are a cardholder of the Atmos™ Rewards Summit Visa Infinite® Card, you'll receive 10,000 status points on each account anniversary, and you'll earn 1 status point for every $2 spent on net purchases. If you want a fast track to elite status, this card is the way to do it.

American Airlines AAdvantage

American Airlines offers a similar route to gifting elite status as Alaska Airlines: by selecting the gift as a reward when you reach various milestones. As a refresher, you earn 1 loyalty point per 1 mile you earn. American Airlines AAdvantage has four status tiers: Gold, Platinum, Platinum Pro, and Executive Platinum. When you reach 125,000 loyalty points, you receive AAdvantage Platinum Pro status, and when you reach 200,000 loyalty points, you'll receive AAdvantage Executive Platinum status.

Here's how many loyalty points you'll need to earn to gift AAdvantage status.

  • 175,000 loyalty points: 2 gifts of Gold status
  • 250,000: 2 gifts of Gold status
  • 400,000: 1 gift of Platinum status
  • 550,000: 1 gift of Platinum status
  • 750,000: 1 gift of Platinum status
  • 1,000,000: 1 gift of Platinum Pro status
  • 3,000,000: 1 gift of Executive Platinum status
  • 5,000,000: 1 gift of Executive Platinum status

If you choose to gift status as one of your loyalty point rewards, the gifted status will last for a full year. This is a better option than other programs that only allow you to gift status for a trip. That said, not everyone can earn 175,000 loyalty points in a year. Plus, if you choose to gift status as your perk, you won't be able to choose other perks that might be more valuable, like World of Hyatt elite status, upgrades, an Admirals Club membership, and more.

If you want a jumpstart on elite status, the AA Executive Card card is your best bet. You'll earn 1 loyalty point for every $1 you spend, plus bonus loyalty points when you reach certain milestones.

Delta SkyMiles

Like many other airlines, to earn Delta Medallion Status, you need to spend heavily on Delta flights. There are four tiers of elite status: Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond. The lower tiers don't provide many benefits apart from complimentary domestic upgrades and Sky Priority services.

Once you reach Platinum Medallion status by earning 15,000 Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs), you'll start to see the real benefits of being a Medallion member. Platinum members can choose one Choice Benefit, and Diamond members can choose three Choice Benefits.

If you are a Platinum Medallion member, you can gift Silver Medallion status to two members as your sole choice benefit. You should only do this if you have a specific reason to do so and you feel it is worth at least a few hundred dollars. For instance, you could also select perks like four regional upgrade certificates, 30,000 bonus miles, or $400 towards a Delta Vacations experience. In most scenarios, Silver Medallion status isn't worth as much as those other benefits.

As a Diamond Medallion member, you can gift Gold Medallion status to two people. This is just one of your three choice benefits, so it might make a bit more sense. You can select upgrade certificates and a statement credit on your Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card in addition to your gift.

Speaking of, the Delta Reserve is a great option for those wanting to work toward elite status. It earns 1 MQD per $10 spent, plus a boost of 2,500 MQDs at the start of each qualifying year.

Emirates Skywards

If you hold top-tier Emirates Skywards status, you can nominate someone for a Gold membership. The person must already be an Emirates Skywards member. You can only make one nomination within your 12-month Platinum tier cycle. This is just one of many perks of holding Emirates Platinum status, and you don't have to sacrifice any other benefits by gifting Gold elite status.

Emirates First Class

When you gift your partner, friend, or colleague Gold elite status, they will receive a variety of benefits, including:

  • Book a classic reward redemption in first class
  • Priority service through contact centers
  • Complimentary seat selection
  • Priority check-in
  • Priority boarding
  • Excess baggage allowances
  • Complimentary access to the Emirates Business Class Lounge in Dubai
  • Complimentary access to selected worldwide lounges

In this case, gifting Gold Elite status yields some seriously tangible benefits, compared to Delta Silver Medallion status, for instance. That said, you need to earn 150,000 Tier Miles and take at least one qualifying flight in first class or business class to become a Platinum tier member, so it's a huge commitment to get to this point.

Finnair Plus

Finnair Plus might not be the most popular loyalty program in the world, but it does offer top-tier members the ability to gift status. As a refresher, you need to earn 15,000 Tier Points to reach Finnair Plus Silver status, 45,000 to reach Gold, 80,000 for Platinum, and 300,000 for Platinum Lumo.

As a Finnair Plus Platinum member, you can gift a year-long Finnair Plus Gold membership as a gift to any Finnair Plus member. When you reach Platinum Lumo, you can gift two year-long Finnair Plus Gold memberships. As a gold member, your recipient will be able to have a complimentary carry-on bag, an extra checked bag, priority check-in and security, access to the Finnair Business Lounges at the Helsinki Airport when traveling on Finnair flights, complimentary internet on Finnair flights, and upgrade benefits.

Frontier Miles

You might not even realize that Frontier has an elite status program. Although it's one of the newer programs on this list, it offers some great benefits for Frontier frequent flyers. Of the four tiers in the program, the top two — Platinum and Diamond — have the opportunity to gift status to a loved one.

As an Elite Platinum member, you will receive one free Silver Status pass that you can gift to another Frontier Airlines member in December each year. The gifted status is then valid from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31 of the following year. This is different than most other programs on this list — you have a set time when you'll receive the pass and be able to gift it to someone, and then the pass is valid for one full calendar year. When you reach Elite Diamond status, you will receive a free Gold status pass to gift with the same date restrictions.

Elite Silver status doesn't provide too many benefits apart from Zone 2 boarding, no change fees, and a preferred seat assignment at check-in. Your recipient will receive several more benefits as an Elite Gold, like Zone 1 boarding, premium seats upon check-in, and a free carry-on bag.

JetBlue TrueBlue

JetBlue's TrueBlue elite status program is easy to understand. There are four tiers: Mosaic 1, Mosaic 2, Mosaic 3, and Mosaic 4. Once you reach Mosaic 4, you can gift Mosaic 1 status to a TrueBlue member of your choice.

It really is that simple. As a Mosaic 1 member, your loved one gets two free checked bags, same-day switches, priority boarding and security screening, preferred core seating, and Avis Preferred Plus status. Unfortunately, they won't receive upgrades to Mint, which are reserved for Mosaic 3 and 4 members.

TAP Air Portugal TAP Miles&Go

TAP Air Portugal has three tiers in its elite status program: Silver, Gold, and Navigator. When you reach Gold and Navigator, you will be able to gift Gold status to another TAP Miles&Go member so they can enjoy the benefits of your status. They will keep their status as long as you maintain yours. If you want to make a change to the recipient, you'll need to wait until the end of the annual qualification period.

Perks of being a TAP Miles&Go Gold member include a birthday gift, access to lounges, fast track security control, premium boarding, priority baggage, and the ability to borrow up to 10,000 miles if you're short when booking an award flight.

Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles

Turkish Airlines elite status works differently than most other elite programs. Once you earn elite status, it's valid until the last day of the month two years from the start date. You can renew your status (or upgrade to a higher tier) by earning a certain number of status miles first one-year period from earning status, or a different number in the total two-year period during which your status is valid.

In other words, you can renew your Classic Plus (the first tier of elite status) by earning 17,000 status miles in the first year of elite status, or 35,000 status miles over two years. The higher your status, the easier it is to renew over the two years. You can renew Elite status by earning 30,000 status miles in one year or 45,000 in two years, and so on.

When you reach Elite Plus status, one of the benefits is the ability to gift Elite status to up to three people. However, this isn't free. It will cost the Elite Plus member 40,000 miles to gift Elite status. As an Elite member, your loved one will receive benefits like extra baggage allowance and free standard and preferred seat selection. They will also receive Star Alliance Gold status.

As an Elite Plus member, you'll need to decide if the benefits are worth the 40,000-mile cost. I recently redeemed 40,000 Turkish Airlines miles for a business class ticket from Istanbul to Paris that cost over $1,000, so it might no be worth it for some people.

British Airways Club

There are three tiers in the British Airways Club elite status program: Bronze, Silver, and Gold. To reach top-tier status, you'll need to earn 20,000 tier points in the collection year (April 1 to March 31 of the following year). You earn 1 tier point per £1 you spend on a British Airways flight, seat, upgrade, or bag.

Unfortunately, you won't be able to gift status as soon as you reach Gold. When you earn 65,000 tier points in one year, you'll receive a Gold British Airways Club partner card. You must have earned 52,000 of those tier points from British Airways-marketed flights or British Airways Holidays packages. When you earn another 40,000 tier points, you'll receive two Silver member cards. At least 32,000 of those tier points must come from British Airways earnings.

In other words, you'll need to spend over £100,000 on flights and vacation packages to be able to gift elite status.

As a Silver or Gold member, your loved one will be able to take advantage of free seat selection, priority check-in and boarding, additional baggage allowance, lounge access, and more.

Qantas Frequent Flyer

Qantas has four tiers in its Frequent Flyer loyalty program: Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Platinum One. You need to earn 1,400 status credits in a year to earn Platinum status, and 3,600 status credits to earn Platinum One status.

The number of status credits you earn on a flight will depend on where you fly, your airline, and the type of fare purchased. In other words, you'll earn more status credits if you fly in a premium cabin on Qantas than if you fly in economy on a Oneworld member airline.

You are able to choose a Platinum bonus reward when you reach 2,400 status credits in one membership year. Keep in mind that this is about halfway between Platinum and Platinum One status, so you won't be able to choose a reward immediately upon earning status.

You can choose between 50,000 Qantas points or a complimentary Gold membership for a family or friend as your Platinum bonus reward. The value of a Qantas point can vary, but 50,000 points could easily get you an economy flight from Los Angeles (LAX) to Sydney (SYD) or a business class seat from Philadelphia (PHL) to San Francisco (SFO), given Qantas' new award chart.

Before you gift a Gold membership as your reward, make sure the recipient will fully take advantage of the benefits. As a Gold member, your loved one will have access to over 600 lounges globally, get early access to classic flight reward seats, on departure upgrades for domestic Qantas flights, and more. It also translates to Oneworld Sapphire status.

Hotel Programs That Let You Gift Elite Status

Having elite status with a hotel program can have some major benefits, from early check-in and late checkout to free room upgrades to food and beverage credits. There are four major hotel chains that allow you to gift status, or its associated perks, to a friend or family member.

Hilton Honors

There are three tiers of elite status in the Hilton Honors program: Silver, Gold, and Diamond. You'll reach Silver after staying 10 nights in a year, Gold after staying 40 nights, and Diamond after staying 60 nights.

Once you reach 60 nights, you also get the opportunity to gift Gold status to a friend or family member. You should automatically receive an email with a code to share with a family member when you reach this threshold. If you don't, call 1-800-4HONORS and give your name and Hilton Honors number, and the representative will give you your code. The recipient will enjoy having status for 365 days from the date the gift was applied to their account.

As a Gold tier member, your loved one will receive several lucrative perks, like space-available room upgrades and a daily food and beverage credit.

The perks don't stop there. After you spend 100 nights at a Hilton Honors property in a calendar year, you'll be able to gift Diamond status to a friend or family member. Diamond status gives your recipient all the same perks as Gold, plus executive lounge access, premium Wi-Fi, and suite upgrades.

If you don't want to wait for someone to gift you Hilton status, you can always apply for a card that grants you automatic Hilton Honors status. The Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card and American Express Platinum Card® both come with come with Hilton Gold status, while the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card gives you automatic top-tier Hilton Diamond status.

World of Hyatt

World of Hyatt is a fan-favorite loyalty program thanks to its published award chart. Unlike most other hotels, you know exactly how many points you'll need to spend on an award redemption. World of Hyatt has three tiers to its elite program: Discoverist, Explorist, and Globalist. You can get Discoverist status by being a The World of Hyatt Credit Card cardholder, but if you want a higher tier, you'll need to stay at a Hyatt property several times each year.

For every 10 nights you stay at a Hyatt property (starting at 20 nights) or every 15,000 base points you earn (starting at 35,000 points), you will receive a milestone benefit. Early benefits include club access awards, or suite upgrade awards, which can both be gifted to a friend. Although you aren't technically gifting elite status, you're gifting associated perks.

Once you reach 40 qualifying nights or 65,000 base points, you'll receive a Guest of Honor award, which is a Globalist experience on a reservation up to seven nights. You can keep it for yourself (you don't reach Globalist until 60 qualifying nights or 100,000 base points), or you can gift it to a friend. The more nights you stay, the more Guest of Honor awards you receive. You could use one for yourself before you reach Globalist status, then gift them to friends or family once you already hold status.

Marriott Bonvoy

Like many other elite programs, the real benefits of Marriott elite status don't start until you reach the upper tiers. For instance, Marriott Gold Elite status, the second of five tiers, comes with perks like a 2 p.m. checkout and an enhanced room upgrade. Once you reach Marriott Platinum Elite status, the third tier, you can be upgraded to suites, and you receive lounge access at eligible hotels.

Your other unique perk as a Platinum Elite is the ability to select an annual choice benefit from the following options:

  • Gift Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite Status
  • Get 5 Nightly Upgrade Awards to redeem for upgrades to select premium rooms and suites.
  • Save $1,000 on a bed from any Marriott Bonvoy retail brand.
  • Give $100 donation
  • Add five Elite Night Credits

So, you could choose to gift Silver Elite status as your annual choice benefit. However, Marriott Silver Elite doesn't come with very many benefits. You'd likely be better off choosing a different benefit unless you have a very specific reason to want to gift someone status.

Once you reach Titanium Elite status, you can select another annual choice benefits. They are mainly the same, only with the addition of a free night award, and the opportunity to gift Gold Elite status to a loved one.

Just like with Hilton, you don't need to wait for someone to gift you status. You can earn Silver Elite status by applying for a card like the Marriott Bonvoy Bold® Credit Card or the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card. You can earn Gold Elite through the Marriott Bonvoy Bevy® American Express® Card or Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful™ Card. Finally, you can earn Platinum Elite status through the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card

Wyndham Rewards

It is much easier to earn Wyndham elite status than many other programs on this list. You're a Gold elite after staying just five nights, a Platinum after 15 nights, and a top-tier Diamond after 40 nights. In comparison, if you stayed 40 nights at a Marriott property, you wouldn't even reach Platinum Elite, the third of five tiers.

If you reach Diamond elite with Wyndham Rewards, you will be able to gift Gold elite status. Unlike many of the other programs, this is just one of the perks of being a Diamond member. You don't have to sacrifice another perk by choosing this option. As a Gold member, your family or friend will receive benefits like a preferred room choice and late checkout.

You could also opt to receive Gold Elite status by being a cardholder of the $0 annual fee Wyndham Rewards Earner® Card, or Platinum Elite status by holding the $75 annual fee Wyndham Rewards Earner® Plus Card

Final Thoughts

If you have worked hard to earn elite status, you have many opportunities to share the wealth with friends or family. While the terms and conditions vary depending on the airline or hotel group, you can potentially gift elite status to a traveler for more than a year. Even if it's just on one journey, it's a kind thing to do for someone you care about.
