How the $100 American Express Saks Benefit Works
In order to take advantage of this benefit, you need to enroll in the offer. This is typical for several Amex Platinum statement credit benefits. If you make a purchase without enrolling, you won't receive the statement credit.
Once enrolled, you can earn up to $100 back annually at Saks, dished out in two pieces:
- Up to $50 from January through June
- Up to $50 from July through December
These rebates are provided as statement credits. Note that you must use your Amex Platinum to make your purchases. There is no minimum spending requirement to trigger the credit. Thus, a qualifying purchase of less than $50 will earn a credit of that exact value. If you make additional purchases that total more than $50, you'll only receive a total of $50 in credit each half of the year.
Some terms and conditions to note
Although Saks has a Saks OFF 5th sister brand, purchases at Saks OFF 5th Avenue store locations or saksoff5th.com will not qualify for the card credit.
If you purchase Saks Fifth Avenue gift cards online, that won't qualify either. Purchasing gift cards to combine for a larger purchase in the future might seem like a great idea. Technically, this is excluded under the terms and conditions of the American Express Saks benefit. However, data points (such as in the comments below) show that gift card purchases can still trigger the credit.
The American Express Saks Benefit is only available to consumer versions of the Platinum card (e.g., The Platinum Card® from American Express and those issued with partners, such as American Express Platinum Card® by Charles Schwab).
The small business version of the card, the The Business Platinum Card® from American Express, is not eligible for this benefit. Conversely, it offers several credits that aren't available on the personal Amex Platinum.

Presently, Saks Fifth Avenue isn't available on Shoprunner, which previously provided free two-day shipping on Saks orders (eligible American Express cardmembers can enroll for a complimentary Shoprunner membership). This means you'll pay $9.95 shipping for orders under $100 if you aren't paying with a Saks credit card. We'll update this section if/when Shoprunner is providing free shipping again
Ways to Use the American Express Saks Benefit
Given that you only have $50 per half year to work with, this might not be useful for infrequent Saks shoppers. Numerous items cost far more than $50. However, there is a decent selection in the $50 to $100 that might turn your eye.
When you shop at saks.com, you can filter the selection to items in the $0 to $50 range. If that isn't sufficient, the next tier is $50 to $150. Socks are a perennial good choice, in my opinion. Many shirts are available in that price range, as well.
I was also able to snag a great T-shirt using my Saks credit a couple of years ago. It used up pretty much the whole $50 credit, but it remains the best-looking and best-fitting T-shirt I have ever owned. Not to mention one of the more comfortable shirts.
Look for other sales or deals when using the credit from your Amex Platinum. American Express offers a statement credit, so you can “double dip” with any ongoing sales or promotions. Stack that with a shopping portal to add even more rewards.
Our Take
The $100 American Express Saks benefit is just one of many offered by the Amex Platinum, which has an impressive list of perks. You can potentially receive over $1,500 in annual value from the available statement credits. Impressively, this doesn't even factor in the value of other benefits, such as lounge access and elite status perks.

You can definitely buy $50 gift cards at any Saks store. The store in Chicago, sales reps have told me that people come in all the time to buy $50 gift cards with their Amex Platinum cards. I accumulated 3 years’ worth to buy a piece of Tumi luggage.
Thanks for the data point. I updated the post to reflect this. We still have to hedge though as it’s technically not supposed to trigger the credit.
Is it valid for Brazilian cards?
This is a perk that’s available for U.S. cards. I’m not aware of this benefit on Brazilian cards.
I’ve sued the benefit and it was a great opportunity to shop at Saks.
I’m wondering, if anyone else is having issues with this month’s Uber credits posting to your account? I’ve sued AmEx chat to ask and the person agreed they had not yet posted, but volunteered no other information.
You sued?
Cool benefit
$200 airline credit + $200 Uber credit + $100 Saks credit = essentially only paying $50 a year for all the awesome platinum card benefits.
I wouldn’t go quite that far.
Not bad, but it isn’t really $100, it is the possibility of getting $50 back twice in a year
$50 + $50 = $100 according to my math.
Thank you for explaining the benefits!
Just enrolled.
Definitely a welcome perk. Is it just a one-time registration, or something we’d need to do every 6/12 months?
My guess is you’ll need to re-enroll every 6 months, however, the terms do not specifically state one way or the other. Given this is the first enrollment, we’ll see come January 2019.
Is this only for Saks or also for Saks off 5th?
Saks only.
Big OOPS!! I used. BTW, the UBER credit has posted.
this is another nice benefit for the card
I don’t think you can get a tie clip at Sacks for anywhere near $50.
Nice offer, even if $550 is still a huge amount of money!
what would I buy..a tie clip?
Ótima noticia, este cartão tem realmente vantagens, com esses beneficios ele se paga!
Cool to see them add benefits!
Glad I looked here first today as it prompted me to check my Plat offers and there it was.
Great, didnt know about this offer until I saw it here.
Love my Platinum card with the credits, helps pay for itself!
Thanks for letting us know!
Not bad!
