Our Take
If you are going to be doing some online shopping in the coming days, then this promotion is well worth checking out. Although it is always better to use a site like evreward.com which shows the best options on where to credit purchases from individual stores. It is also worth visiting a site like CashbackMonitor.com to see how much you will earn back from individual stores. This allows you to not only to maximize your bonus miles but also your cashback earnings.

If there’s anything I will wind up using, I look at the selection on giftcertificates.com.
Compared to the AA shopping portal, I’ve found that UA takes a much longer time for the miles to post and often requires intervention by Customer Service
These bonus miles can often be competitive with other cash back portals.
I can confirm that using United portal to buy gift cards at Walmart.com did not track. I did a separate purchase with no gift cards and was sent an email within a few hours that the purchase tracked with the portal. I was using the just expired Amex offer for 30 off 60 at walmart, com.
Thank you for the information and clarifications. Do you earn 1 miles for those micro purchases on Amazon via MileagePlus Shopping?
what is a micro purchase?
The bonus is great, but I often find that other portals pay out at higher rates than UA. Unless one really wants/needs these United miles, it’s always good to do the math to see if one might actually come out ahead making the purchase through the AA or UR malls. I found that to be the case just last night: UA standard earn + 1000 was less than the AA portal’s standard payout.
Presumably these amounts are cumulative? You don’t have to spend $300 in one transaction?
correct.
