Frontier Airlines just launched a brand-new buy miles sale. Through May 30, 2025, Frontier Miles members can purchase miles with a 150% bonus, bringing the cost down to as little as 1.075 cents per mile.

But does it ever make sense to purchase Frontier Miles with a bonus or discount? Let's break down the details to help you determine if (and when) buying miles is worth it.

When Should You Buy Points and Miles?

Frequent AwardWallet readers probably think we sound like a broken record when it comes to our stance on buying points and miles. But we feel it's worth reiterating that we are not proponents of buying miles — at least without a plan.

If an airline is offering a bonus or discount promotion, it might be worth considering. But just because an airline is running a promotion doesn't mean you should immediately reach for your wallet. Buying miles and points doesn't always provide value even with a promotion on the table.

Instead, we prefer to earn miles and points organically. For most loyalty programs, you're better off growing your balance through top credit card offers and leveraging transfer partners.

In short, there are only two reasons someone should purchase miles. The first is if you can essentially buy an award ticket by buying the necessary miles at a cheaper rate than the cash price. Secondly, if you're close to topping off your balance to grab a sweet redemption, purchasing those last few miles might be the quickest (and simplest) way of reaching your goal.

Always do calculations before buying miles or points to ensure you're getting value from the transaction.

When Does It Make Sense to Buy Frontier Miles?

Since this is only the fifth promotion we've seen from Frontier for buying miles, we won't have much history to compare to determine where this falls in Frontier's buy-miles spectrum. But what we do know about this promotion is that the per-mile cost (1.075¢ each) is much cheaper than the first promotion (1.34¢ each).

Let's take a look at some of the details of this promotion to see if it makes sense to grab them while they're on sale.

  • This promotion is valid until 11:59 p.m. EST on May 30, 2025.
  • Frontier members must buy a minimum of 2,000 Frontier Miles to receive any bonus (100%).
  • The 150% bonus starts when you purchase at least 10,000 FrontierMiles.
  • Frontier members can buy a maximum of 50,000 Frontier Miles per transaction for the 150% bonus (1.075¢ per mile).
  • Members are allowed to purchase an unlimited number of Frontier Miles during the promotion period.
  • Purchased Frontier Miles are non-refundable.
  • Purchased miles are applicable towards all Frontier Miles awards.
  • Miles will typically be posted within 24 hours of being purchased.
  • Purchased miles do not count toward status upgrades.
  • All standard Frontier Miles program terms and conditions apply.

This promotion offers three bonus tiers. Here is how it breaks down:

  • 1,000: No bonus (2.69¢ each)
  • 2,000-4,000 miles: 100% bonus (1.34¢ each)
  • 5,000-9,000 miles: 120% bonus (1.22¢ each)
  • 10,000-50,000 miles: 150% bonus (1.075¢ each)

How to Buy Frontier Airlines Miles

Buying Frontier miles is a quick and easy process. Head to Frontier's website and navigate to the page for selling miles.

It's important to note that Frontier Airlines allows members to purchase 50,000 miles per transaction — which will net you 125,000 miles when you maximize the 150% bonus (50,000 base miles + 75,000 bonus miles).

As per the offer terms mentioned above, members can purchase an unlimited number of miles during the promotional period. So, theoretically, you can purchase an unlimited number of miles in multiple transactions.

Once you decide whether you would like to purchase miles for yourself or gift miles to a friend or family member, simply click on the “Buy Miles” or “Gift Miles” button, and you'll be taken to a page that asks for your Frontier membership number and other personal information. Once you fill this information out and sign in, you'll be able to choose the number of miles you would like to buy.

Cost to Buy Frontier Airlines Miles

While the standard cost of miles is typically 2.5¢ apiece, just be aware that this is not the final price. Similar to when you buy Alaska Mileage Plan miles and Spirit Airlines Free Spirit points, the final checkout page tacks on some extra costs — in this case, a 7.5% tax recovery fee.

And while the portal for gifting Frontier miles looks slightly different, the costs will be the same.

Incorporating this 7.5% tax recovery fee into the total cost will increase the cost-per-mile to 2.69¢ apiece before the bonus. But, grab 10,000 or more Frontier Miles during this 150% bonus promotion, and the cost-per-point rate drops to just 1.075¢ apiece.

Other Ways to Earn Frontier Airlines Miles

Outside of flying, there are two primary ways to earn Frontier Airlines miles that don't require buying them directly.

Earn a sign-up bonus and spend on the Frontier Airlines Mastercard

As we briefly discussed in the introduction, the options for Frontier co-branded credit cards are slim. The one card on offer is the FRONTIER Airlines World Mastercard®. Surprisingly, some of the perks on offer with this card are pretty good (think free bags). Better yet, you can earn a sign-up bonus card to juice your mileage balance without buying miles outright.

As a new applicant, you can earn up to 60,000 bonus miles — 40,000 miles after spending $500 on purchases and paying the annual fee in full (both within the first 90 days of account opening), and 20,000 miles after spending $2,000 on purchases within the first 180 days. Plus, unlock instant elite gold status after making your first purchase. The Frontier Airlines Mastercard has a $99 each year thereafter.

You can turn this bonus into at least two round-trip award tickets with Frontier. Perhaps even more, depending on which flights you try to book.

Book travel through Frontier's partners

Unfortunately, Frontier is not a partner with any other airline. However, Frontier partners with two hotel juggernauts for point transfers: Wyndham Rewards and Marriott Bonvoy.

Frontier also partners with all of the major car-rental companies, such as Avis, Budget, Hertz, Thrifty, Dollar, National, and Alamo. But, these partnerships are just for earning Frontier miles when booking a car or hotel. Just something to keep in mind if you're looking to build your Frontier balance without buying miles.

When Does It Make Sense To Buy Frontier Miles?

This 150% bonus promotion has completely changed our outlook on buying Frontier miles as we continue rolling through 2025. The consensus behind buying Frontier Miles a few months ago would have been a resounding no. Instead, you could utilize other ways to earn Frontier miles that can present good value. For example, you can earn a sign-up bonus on the Frontier Airlines Mastercard, or book travel through the airline's car-rental and hotel partners.

But now that Frontier has released yet another buy miles promotion, it makes buying miles much more palatable. Frontier Airlines members can grab Frontier Miles during this promotion for just 1.075¢ apiece.

So, if you're looking to grab some miles for yourself or a loved one, now is the time to do so before this promotion expires on May 30, 2025. But unless there is an ongoing promotion from Frontier, we would recommend staying away from buying Frontier Miles at all costs.
