The Sapphire Reserve for Business℠ and the Capital One Venture X Business are two of the best credit cards around for business owners looking to earn valuable rewards and enjoy premium travel benefits.

Both offer excellent sign-up bonuses, strong earning rates, and plenty of luxury perks. However, they deliver value in different ways. And there's that $400 annual fee difference to consider, too.

Here's how the two cards compare and which might be the better fit for your business.

Excellent, Good

  • 8X points on all Chase Travel℠ purchases
  • 5X total points on eligible Lyft rides through 9/30/2027
  • 4x points on flights and hotels booked directly
  • 3x points on advertising purchases made with social media platforms and search engines*
  • 1 point per dollar on all other eligible purchases
*On up to $1 million in spend each anniversary year, starting 11/15/26

The Venture X Business offers the larger potential bonus, but earning the full offer requires spending $120,000 in just four months. That's an average of $30,000 per month. However, you can still earn 150,000 miles after spending $40,000 in the first four months, even if you don't meet the higher spending requirement.

The Sapphire Reserve Business, meanwhile, requires $30,000 in spending over six months, making its bonus much more attainable for businesses with lower expenses.

Winner: Capital One Venture X Business for the larger potential welcome offer, although the Sapphire Reserve Business has a considerably more manageable spending requirement.

Earning Rewards

The Sapphire Reserve Business earns Ultimate Rewards points at the following rates:

  • 8X points on all Chase Travel℠ purchases
  • 5X total points on eligible Lyft rides through 9/30/2027
  • 4x points on flights and hotels booked directly
  • 3x points on advertising purchases made with social media platforms and search engines*
  • 1 point per dollar on all other eligible purchases
*On up to $1 million in spend each anniversary year, starting 11/15/26

On the other hand, the Venture X Business earns Capital One miles at the following rates:

  • 10X miles per $1 on hotels and rental cars booked via Capital One Business Travel
  • 5X miles per $1 on purchases through Capital One Entertainment
  • 5X miles per $1 on flights booked via Capital One Business Travel
  • 5X miles per $1 on vacation rentals booked via Capital One Business Travel
  • 2X miles per $1 on other eligible purchases

The Sapphire Reserve Business comes out on top if your business spends a lot on travel or online advertising. You'll earn 4X points on flights and hotels booked directly, compared to just 2X miles with the Venture X Business. Chase also offers 3X points on eligible social media and search engine advertising, giving it another edge if your business has a large advertising budget. Starting November 15, 2026, the 3X rate will be capped at $1 million in combined eligible advertising purchases per account anniversary year, with 1X earned thereafter.

However, the Venture X Business wins when it comes to everyday spending, earning 2 miles per dollar instead of 1 on purchases that don't qualify for bonus categories. This makes it a great option if most of your business expenses fall outside those categories.

Of course, which card comes out ahead also depends on how you value Chase Ultimate Rewards points versus Capital One miles. AwardWallet users redeem Chase Ultimate Rewards points for an average of 2.11¢ apiece and Capital One miles for 2.1¢ apiece, so there's not much difference between their average redemption values. That makes the Venture X Business‘s 2X everyday earning rate that much more appealing.

Winner: Capital One Venture X Business for its higher earning rate on everyday purchases, although the Sapphire Reserve Business may be more rewarding for businesses with larger travel or advertising budgets.

Redeeming Rewards

The Sapphire Reserve for Business℠ earns Ultimate Rewards points, which are Chase's proprietary rewards currency. You can combine the Ultimate Rewards you earn from the Sapphire Reserve for Business℠ with Ultimate Rewards points that you earn from other cards that earn Ultimate Rewards points, making it easy to boost your balance.

You can redeem your points for cash back at 1 cent apiece or for travel through Chase Travel℠. With Chase's Points Boost, you can get up to 2 cents per point on select flights and hotels. Or you can really maximize your Ultimate Rewards points by transferring them to Chase's hotel and airline partners like World of Hyatt, United MileagePlus, and Southwest Rapid Rewards.

Redeeming Capital One miles is also fairly straightforward, as there are a number of great ways to use them. You can redeem your rewards for most travel purchases at a value of 1 cent per mile. However, you'll only get 0.5 cents per mile if you redeem for cash back.

You'll generally get the best value by transferring your rewards to Capital One's transfer partners. Capital One also offers more transfer partners than Chase, including programs like Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles, Avianca LifeMiles, and Cathay Pacific Asia Miles.

Winner: Sapphire Reserve for Business℠ for its higher cash redemption value and the potential to get up to 2 cents per point through Points Boost. However, Capital One has more transfer partners, so the better choice ultimately depends on which loyalty programs you use.

Annual Fees and Statement Credits

The Capital One Venture X Business has a $395 annual fee, while the Sapphire Reserve for Business℠ has a $795 annual fee. Both cards have a credit for up to $120 for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck® every four years. The Sapphire Reserve Business also covers NEXUS application fees.

The Capital One Venture X Business offers the following annual benefits:

  • $300 travel credit for bookings made through Capital One Business Travel
  • 10,000 bonus miles each account anniversary, starting with your first renewal, worth at least $100 toward travel

The Sapphire Reserve for Business℠ offers a longer list of annual credits and benefits:

  • $300 travel credit covering a wide range of travel purchases
  • Up to $500 annually for prepaid stays through The Edit by Chase Travel, with a two-night minimum and a maximum of $250 per booking. Starting January 1, 2027, the annual credit increases to $1,000, available as four separate $250 credits
  • Up to $250 for prepaid stays of at least two nights at select hotel brands booked through Chase Travel, including IHG, Omni, Virgin Hotels, and several others, through December 31, 2026
  • Up to $400 annually for ZipRecruiter purchases, split into two $200 credits
  • Up to $200 annually for Google Workspace
  • Up to $100 annually for select gift cards through Giftcards.com, split into two $50 credits
  • Up to $120 annually in Lyft credits and up to $300 in DoorDash discounts

You can also unlock even more benefits after spending $120,000 on the Sapphire Reserve Business in a calendar year, including up to $500 in credits for Southwest Airlines flights booked through Chase Travel and $500 in credits for The Shops at Chase.

While Chase offers considerably more credits, most are tied to specific merchants, bookings, or spending requirements. If you already use these services, they could go a long way toward offsetting the higher annual fee. Otherwise, the Venture X Business is the more affordable option, especially if you can take full advantage of its annual travel credit and anniversary bonus.

Winner: Capital One Venture X Business for its lower annual fee and simpler path to offsetting the cost, without having to juggle a long list of merchant-specific credits.

Travel Benefits

As you'd expect from premium business credit cards, the Sapphire Reserve Business and Venture X Business come with loads of travel perks, including complimentary Priority Pass Select memberships that allow access to participating lounges with up to two guests at no additional charge.

You'll also get access to each issuer's own lounge network. The Sapphire Reserve Business provides complimentary access to Chase Sapphire Lounges with up to two guests, while the Venture X Business includes Capital One Lounges and Landings, although complimentary guest access requires meeting an annual spending threshold. Chase cardholders also get access to select Air Canada lounges.

Beyond the airport, each card offers access to a collection of premium hotels with extra benefits:

  • Sapphire Reserve Business: The Edit by Chase Travel offers perks such as daily breakfast for two, a $100 property credit, complimentary Wi-Fi, and room upgrades, early check-in, and late checkout when available. Benefits vary by property and collection.
  • Venture X Business: Capital One's Premier Collection offers similar perks, including daily breakfast for two, a $100 experience credit, and room upgrades when available. The Lifestyle Collection provides a $50 experience credit, complimentary Wi-Fi, and other benefits such as early check-in and late checkout when available. Cardholders can also get a fourth night free at select properties in either collection when booking an eligible stay of at least four nights through Capital One Business Travel.

The Sapphire Reserve Business also comes with complimentary IHG One Rewards Platinum Elite status through December 31, 2027. Spending $120,000 in a calendar year unlocks additional benefits, including World of Hyatt Explorist and IHG Diamond Elite status.

Meanwhile, the Venture X Business offers complimentary Hertz President's Circle status, while Chase includes National Emerald Club Executive status.

Winner: Sapphire Reserve for Business℠ for its more generous lounge guest policy, access to additional airport lounges, and complimentary hotel elite status.

Travel and Purchase Protections

Travel delays, canceled trips, and damaged purchases can quickly become expensive. Fortunately, the Sapphire Reserve Business and Venture X Business offer a variety of protections that can help cover unexpected costs.

Both cards offer several valuable benefits, including:

Both cards offer emergency medical and dental coverage of up to $2,500 for eligible expenses. However, the Sapphire Reserve Business has an advantage when it comes to emergency evacuation and transportation — it offers up to $100,000 in coverage. Chase also offers trip delay reimbursement of up to $500 per covered traveler for eligible delays exceeding six hours or requiring an overnight stay.

The Venture X Business also provides medical evacuation assistance and coverage for certain transportation expenses, but with a lower $10,000 limit on eligible travel and repatriation costs.

Chase also offers return protection of up to $500 per eligible item if a merchant won't accept a return.

The Venture X Business includes ride-hailing protection, which can provide coverage for certain incidents during eligible rides.

Winner: Sapphire Reserve for Business℠ for its higher emergency evacuation and transportation coverage limits, plus trip delay reimbursement.

If Neither Card Is Right for You

If neither card sounds like the right fit, there are plenty of other business credit cards worth considering. After all, there's no reason to pay hundreds of dollars in annual fees if you won't take advantage of the premium benefits.

Here are two alternatives worth a look:

  • Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card: With a $95 annual fee, this card is a great alternative if you want to earn Chase Ultimate Rewards points without paying for all the luxury perks. You'll earn 3X points on eligible travel and select business purchases, up to an annual spending cap.
  • Capital One Venture Business: This card also has a $95 annual fee, but you'll still earn unlimited 2X miles on every purchase. Plus, you'll get a $50 annual Capital One Business Travel credit and up to $50 annually in statement credits for eligible advertising or software purchases.

Neither card offers the same level of travel benefits as the Sapphire Reserve Business or Venture X Business. However, both can be excellent choices if you're more interested in earning rewards than enjoying premium perks.

The Bottom Line: Which Business Card Is Right for You?

Both the Sapphire Reserve for Business℠ and Capital One Venture X Business are outstanding premium business credit cards, and they can be the right fit for you, depending on your unique travel and spending habits and financial goals.

The Sapphire Reserve for Business℠ has more bonus earning categories, a better lounge policy, and more available statement credits. On the other hand, the Capital One Venture X Business has a simpler earning structure with better earnings on everyday purchases as well as a much lower annual fee.
