IHG and United have brought back a popular promotion for extra rewards on IHG stays. Travelers now have the option to earn triple United miles on IHG stays of any length. However, you'll need to make some adjustments to your One Rewards account settings to earn these miles.
This new promotion is valid for bookings made from July 8 through September 30, 2026. Here's how you can participate.
Earn Triple United Miles on IHG Stays
Through September 30, 2026, members of United MileagePlus can link their accounts to their IHG One Rewards account and earn triple miles. Although there has been a limit in the past on the number of miles that can be earned, the promotion terms this time around do not indicate any cap.
To take advantage of this promotion, change your earning preference to “Airline Miles” in your IHG account's “preferences” section. Then, select “United Airlines MileagePlus” as your preferred airline program.
Before making a booking, though, be sure to register for this promotion. Once registered, book a stay of any length at any participating IHG property completed before September 30, 2026. You will earn triple United miles on your stays.
IHG stays generally give 2X miles per dollar spent. The exceptions are Candlewood Suites and Staybridge Suites, which have a base rate of 1X mile per dollar spent. Thus, this promotion gives United MileagePlus members 6X miles per dollar spent at most IHG properties through September 30, 2026, as well as 2X miles per dollar at Candlewood Suites and Staybridge Suites.

Our Take
Earning triple United miles on IHG hotel stays could be a better option than earning IHG One Rewards points, though it ultimately comes down to your travel goals. If you have upcoming IHG stays and would rather build your United MileagePlus balance, this promotion is worth considering.
For reference, AwardWallet user redemption data shows United miles are worth an average of 2.02¢ each; while IHG One Rewards points are worth 0.69¢ each.
IHG stays typically earn 10 IHG points per dollar (before elite bonuses and other promotions). With this offer, you'll earn up to 6 United miles per dollar instead. Depending on how you value each currency, switching your earning preference to United for the duration of the promotion could make sense.
This promotion should also stack with other ongoing IHG offers, so it's worth checking your account for any additional promotions before booking. Just remember to register, book by September 30, 2026, and update your earning preference to United if you haven't already.
Also, even if you choose to earn United miles from your stay, you can still pay with an IHG co-branded credit card to earn bonus IHG points on the purchase itself, giving you the best of both worlds.
