Several airline shopping portals are offering bonuses of up to 3,000 bonus miles. Earning is tiered, participation in one does not preclude you from receiving the bonus in any other portal, and the timeline of these promotions, while similar, is not the same.

United Shopping Portal Summer Bonus

Promotion Details

Five airlines (Alaska, American, Delta, Southwest, and United) are running some variant of the promotion. In all cases, these are bonus miles earned in addition to what you'd typically earn from your shopping through each portal. In the case of each program with tiered earnings, they are not cumulative — you'll earn based on the tier/threshold you reach for each program

Our Take

As is the case with anything shopping related, compare prices before you click purchase. If you're otherwise paying the same or less, or if the miles earned represent a significant amount of value to you (perhaps to reach a threshold for an award) then leveraging a shopping portal is a great way to pick up some additional miles.

Another thing to keep in mind is that shopping portals are a great way to prevent your miles from expiring.

  • Bertrand Say says:

Bonuses are good compared to cash back rebate sites but make sure to compare before taking the plunge.

  • Great news! Even Apple is on the portal!

  • just got myself some easy miles

  • I used the AA portal a lot in the past when ebay was on it, but lost interest after it disappeared. This article is a good reminder to check again to see if there is anything interesting.

  • charles j says:

Now that American expired, the spend $350 at United seems like the best deal. I guess I’ll check if I can use anything at Giftcertificates, cin before it ends.

  • So far we’ve maxed the AA and AS offers. Such low hanging fruit. Love it!

  • Albert Rollins says:

Thanks for the reminder, I have some summer house projects and can certainly use them.

  • how long until the bonuses hit?

  • I keep forgetting about these.
    Thanks for the reminder

  • I love that shopping portals can prevent my miles from expiring.

  • Time for some early back-to-school shopping…

  • Why not, if there are bonus miles

  • 3000 bonus so far

  • I always use shopping portals and it is very nice when there are bonuses like this. It is especially good when I have an Amex offer that also gets some cash back or extra MR points. Buying through the AA shopping portal right now is also stackable with their 5K Challenge and maybe the Delta double partner miles might be also. (I can’t confirm that one.) So lots of extra points to be earned right now.

  • Awesome, love this time of year!

  • These aren’t as good as previous similar portal bonuses, but any extra miles is good to me.

  • Yesterday I had gotten an email from American about this. Not long after I got the others. I am finding that other frequent flier members and American say most miles are earned from shopping portals. I haven’t really utilized the portals and now I’m rethinking it all. I see that prices can change if you do on some but most I’m not seeing a difference. I’m guessing the up price on some is the cost for getting miles or points for the purchase.

  • A quite large amount of money for small reward.

  • These offers/promotions indeed make bonus points earning much faster and flexible. Great! Plan to aim for AAdvantage miles first.

  • Nice plus as shopping is often a helpful way to keep accounts active.

  • Bernard Say says:

Its time to shop. These bonuses are welcome in my book. Just have to make sure that it is better than the cash back rates.

    • Exactly. Just need to retrain ourselves… that the first step of any online purchase is to check the existing bonus opportunities. There are a number of quality sites that organize bonuses by store, across both miles and cashback, for comparison.

  • Delta has a limited-time enrollment for double partner miles thru 9/30/18 – – must register by tomorrow.

  • I’d like to add one caveat: sometimes it’s best not to buy stuff that you don’t really need just to reach spending thresholds. Sometimes the extra miles are not worth the extra expense.

  • As the years have gone by I find my participation in using shopping portals translates into I hardly ever really “go shopping” anymore in the traditional manner. My husband and I have accumulated thousands of points portal shopping and bonus offering are our favorites.

  • Im not a huge fan of these promos – if they were like “first purchase x-points, second y-points and do on” – I’d do some shopping for sure!

  • Thanks for the timely reminder, are about to look at a sizeable online portal purchase so the points will come in handy.

  • These portals are such an easy way for us to earn miles on purchases we were going to have to make anyway!

  • Portal points are so underrated, so long as you aren’t paying more, as alluded to. Simple way to keep points active if nothing else.

  • Thank yoiu for the timely update! Thank you!

  • Thank yoiu for the timely update!

  • I like the shopping bonuses but usually don’t go out of my way to shop for something I didn’t already decide to buy befor the bonus appeared. It’s like an unexpected surprise when it does happen though.

  • Good bonus for stuff we are already going to buy.

  • Online shopping and collecting airline points / miles is often overlooked, there are usually some big bonus point weekends also to keep an eye out for.

  • Thanks for the reminder. Just made a purchase through the Southwest shopping portal. Hopefully, it will also refresh my miles expiration.

  • Nice way to earn some additional miles.

  • Thanks for the description, I didn’t realize these were cumulative purchases as I’ve always thought they were individual purchases.

  • That American bonus is pretty good!

  • Love when these bonuses come around. Great way to rack up some extra points with normal spend.
