The American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts program is one the nicer perks for having The Platinum Card® from American Express or The Business Platinum Card® from American Express. Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts offers several perks when booking rooms at participating hotels, including but not limited to:
- Daily breakfast for two people
- Complimentary Wi-Fi
- Room upgrade upon arrival, when available
- Noon check-in, when available
- Guaranteed 4pm late checkout
- Unique amenity valued at US$100, such as a spa or food and beverage credit.
American Express recently announced that it will be expanding its program. According to the company
“Meeting the needs of the evolving global traveler, FINE HOTELS & RESORTS will expand to new global markets including Copenhagen, Cape Cod and Bath and emerging leisure markets such as Sri Lanka, Ecuador and Mongolia.”
With the addition of these new hotels and resorts, the program will now be offering 975 properties worldwide. Some of the most spectacular additions to the program include:
Velaa Private Island, per Amex is:
“A collection of private retreats located in a unique archipelago in Noonu Atoll, this private island escape caters to the experiential traveler, and is designed purely with luxury in mind using local materials to create an over-the-water sanctuary where the Indian Ocean takes center stage”
Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills, this is a
“luxurious urban oasis opening in spring of 2017 at the corner of Wilshire and Santa Monica Boulevards. The property is designed for travelers seeking personal attention, comfort and privacy in a glamorous setting. The hotel features guest rooms with oversized private balconies, as well a rooftop pool deck accessible only to hotel guests – the largest roof deck of its kind in Beverly Hills.”
Ham Yard Hotel, a London property described as a
“stylish hotel set in the heart of bustling Soho near Piccadilly Circus. Ham Yard Hotel has a distinct urban village feel revolving around a tree-filled garden, outdoor restaurant and bar and 12 individual boutiques. The property features a drawing room, library, Soholistic Spa, bowling alley, and rooftop garden with sweeping views of the London skyline.”
Overall, there are some great additions to the program — more great properties to the expanding portfolio, and offering cardholders a slew of complimentary benefits worth up to $550 when they visit.

Can you still earn stays and nights by booking through FHR?
Yes.
Can you reserve a FHR stay with AMEX and then actually pay with another card or a gift certificate?
Technically according to the terms of the booking rate you’re supposed to use your card. That said, it has been posted that you can use other forms of payment. This is absolutely a YMMV scenario. I would have my Platinum card with me as a backup just in case if you were to try this.
It is my understanding that you do not earn points or credit to elite status if you book via FHR. Is this correct?
That is INCORRECT. You still earn points, receive elite benefits and earn elite credit with FHR booked rates.
Would love to take advantage of these hotels, do you know of a full list that is available online without having the card? Debating between them and the Visa Signature fine hotel collection (any idea or when I can find out more on either?)
