These shopping promotions have ended.

Several airlines have launched a promo that can earn you thousands of miles for shopping online through their shopping portals. The amount of bonus miles varies by airline, as well as the duration of each promo. You can earn bonus miles with United, American Airlines, and Southwest.

United MileagePlus Shopping

MileagePlus Shopping Portal Holiday 2017 Promotion

You can earn up to 5,000 bonus miles for shopping through United’s shopping portal. Like most of these promotions, it is tiered, and there are various earning thresholds. The key terms are as follows:

  • Promo valid through November 19, 2017
  • Earn 500 bonus miles when you spend $150
  • Earn 2,500 bonus miles when you spend $750
  • Earn 5,000 bonus miles when you spend $1,500

American AAdvantage Shopping

AAdvantage Shopping Portal Holiday 2017 Promotion

You can also earn up to 4,000 bonus miles for shopping through the AAdvantage shopping portal. Again, like most of these promotions, it has various spending tiers to earn different amounts of miles.  The key terms are as follows:

  • Promo valid through November 19, 2017
  • Earn 500 bonus miles when you spend $150
  • Earn 2,000 bonus miles when you spend $600
  • Earn 4,000 bonus miles when you spend $1,200

Southwest Rapid Rewards Shopping

MileagePlus Shopping Portal Holiday 2017 Promotion

Southwest is offering you up to 3,000 bonus miles for shopping through the Southwest Rapid Rewards shopping portal. Similarly to both the previous offers, it is tiered, and there are various earning thresholds, the key terms are as follows:

  • Promo valid through November 20, 2017
  • Earn 500 bonus points when you spend $150
  • Earn 1,000 bonus points when you spend $500
  • Earn 3,000 bonus points when you spend $1,000

Overall

It is that time of the year again when bonuses will start to be thrown around to attract your spending. Maximizing your spending is straightforward since if you spend over the maximum threshold you do not earn any further points, so you are best off splitting up your spending amongst the three promos to maximize your earning across the board. The only thing you will have to do is check each site to ensure you are earning the best rate for each item you are purchasing.

  • Black Friday comes earlier every year.

  • Apple is doing a one day bonus on AA today only, 6 miles per dollar spent so for a 700 phone, thats over 6200 bonus miles plus credit card rebate.

  • can you double dip these with credit card bonuses for black friday?

  • “Let the games begin!” I began my Xmas shopping this morning being sure to go through some portals.

  • These mileage bonuses are a great way to replenish miles.

  • Just made a couple purchases that I’ve been planning to make anyhow. Hello extra miles 🙂

  • Time to do some christmas shopping.

  • Shopping portals is my middle name!

  • Cecilia Rose says:

Wow. I always used evrewards.com, but the cashbackmonitor one looks much better. Thanks for the tip!

  • Some good bonuses there. Thanks.

  • The bonuses are nice but I find the jetblue partnership with amazon has just works so much better overall, and usually at better prices too. For anything else I still prefer the chase portal over airlines, even with the bonuses.

  • Remember, not all stores are available for each airline. Many are the same, but some are not.

    • I didn’t realize that. I usually use AA shopping, but I notice different stores/point values on Mileage Plus X. It’s worth looking to see where the best value lies. Thanks for the tip!

  • Great option to earn miles through shopping, as long as I don’t buy things I don’t need just to get bonus miles.

  • Yup, already nearly done with the UA offer. I’ll have time to to get the AA offer done as well.

  • Love this option. I always forget about the shopping link. glad you reminded me!

  • Any bonus offer is better than none. That said, be careful with airline shopping portals. The version of the sites they sometimes take you to have higher prices than if you shopped without clicking through the portal or used a cash back portal like Ebates or Topcashback instead. I’ve encountered this problem when shopping through the AA portal to cell phone companies, flowers and candy companies. You end up paying for the miles through higher prices.

  • if you’re online anyways … why not

  • Maybe this will encourage me to start my Christmas shopping early this year!

  • It’s sad, but I’ve never used these shopping portals; plan to rectify that soon though so thanks for the tip! Any particular portal you find more valuable than others?

    • The one with the highest bonus in our favorite program is always the winner. When there aren’t promos going on we tend to look at CashBackMonitor.com and CashBackholics.com to find who is offering the best current rate.

    • I find the best place is for the airline I use the most, even if the bonus is better on another airline. Also, depends on which store I am purchasing, from. Not all airlines have the same store options.

  • These promotions can be very valuable if you were planning to spend the money anyway. I do find it takes a very long time for the bonus points to be credited to your account. The points earned for the regular spend usually credits in a few days. This is something to keep in mind if you are trying to earn points for a specific award redemption.

  • Always great to earn some extra miles during the holiday season

  • Quite a nice bonus, but make sure to look at other sites to compare prices, otherwise you may just be paying more cash for those extra (bonus) miles!

  • I have been seeing these. Since I will be buying early this year it’s great! This early prob not too much but kids grow and they do need new cold weather gear :O) So this will help, maybe not the 1,500$ bonus but the $150 for sure.

I didn’t see anything that you have to sign up for the promos. I am assuming that if you’re enrolled in their shopping portal then one does not have to register for it?

  • I try to hit the 1500 spend every year. 5K miles is solid and I try to time it with Apple offering more than their usual 1x per dollar spent on an iphone on the united portal. Using my citi double card gets another 2% so it can all add up to $30 cash back and $250 worth of miles on a 1500 spend depending on the store and the miles per dollar spent.

  • Really short window but a good way to get some extra points while doing my year end check to make sure all my accounts maintain the necessary activity to keep them from expiring.

  • I have not started my Christmas shopping. I usually look for Black Friday deals if I am spending large amounts.

  • Time for me to do all my Christmas shopping.

  • Those extra miles are so nice!! Time to start shopping.

  • Be sure to disable your ad blocker before visiting the portal.

  • Here come more miles my way! Thanks.

  • charles janay says:

I’ll have to figure out how to take advantage of this. GiftCertificates.com is a way of getting some miles when you don’t really need anything, if you can find gift certificates for businesses you will wind up using.

  • I always look/plan for these when they come. Easy free miles for something you, in theory, will be buying anyhow.

  • Great Tip!!! Can I upgrade my status in AAdvantage using this bonus miles?

  • Pity the deals end just before Black Friday – I suppose you can’t have major discounts AND points! What to choose, what to choose,,,?

    • If GiftCertificates.com sells gift certificates (that you can’t get at a discount elsewhere that outweighs the bonus points) for mechants you will patronize, you can buy these and spend them later when the lists promulgate.

  • great timing on these! I think I will be able to make a few of the bonus levels….

  • Hate the timing on this as most of my extended family haven’t done their lists yet.
