IHG has announced a promotion giving you a 100% bonus on points purchases. The promotion runs through June 15, 2018, and to earn the bonus you need to purchase a minimum of 5,000 points. With the promotion, you can purchase a maximum of 200,000 points (100,000 purchase + 100,000 bonus) for $1,000. This works out at 0.5 cents a point, which is pretty good value.

Key Terms
- Promotion valid through 11:59 PM ET June 15, 2018
- You need to purchase a minimum of 5,000 points to benefit from the promotion
- You can purchase a maximum of 100,000 points per calendar year
- You can receive as a gift a maximum of 100,000 points per calendar year
- Allow 72 hours for the bonus points to post to your account
Is It Worth It?
This will depend on if you have any immediate use for the points. Buying speculatively is not worth it; even at a price of 0.5 cents a piece, you are better off holding cash. On the other hand, if you are planning an aspirational redemption soon, then this is a good chance to stock up on your IHG points. You can further enhance your IHG points balance by using the IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card.
Remember if you have a substantial balance of IHG points that are nearing their expiry, then making a small points purchase will extend their validity by another 12 months.
Our Take
IHG regularly puts out these 100% bonus points purchase promotions, so if you do not make a purchase you are not missing the boat, the next one is likely just around the corner. If you have plans with IHG then this promo is good value and makes sense, otherwise, it is worth waiting until your firm up your plans.

It’s still not perfect, because it’s not much more value…but if you needed to top off, it is a good deal.
I agree with the comment above. Only do this if you need to top up for an award.
Hmm. Maybe I need to look at it again. My email was if I bought 10k to get 100%.
I’m building for a redemption and see these 100%ers as a way to get points built for a trip that’s coming soon.
It’s good to know that a small purchase will extend life of account. What’s the minimum points that one can buy?
A simple click of the link will tell you exactly that!
I just bought some points.
Thanks for the post!
Thanks. Topped up.
