Delta recently announced an improvement to its relationship with Hertz. From now on, Delta Medallion members get improved earning rates when renting a car through Hertz. Also, members can match their Medallion status for elite status in the Hertz Gold Plus Rewards.

Improved Earning Rates

Delta Medallion members will now earn the following improved rates when renting a car with Hertz:

  • Diamond Medallion members earn 8 SkyMiles per $1 spent.
  • Platinum Medallion members earn 7 SkyMiles per $1.
  • Gold Medallion members earn 6 SkyMiles per $1.
  • Silver Medallion members earn 5 SkyMiles per $1.
  • SkyMiles member members earn 4 SkyMiles miles per $1.

Delta also partners with Thrify and Dollar. However, there is no change to the SkyMiles earning rate for these rental car partners. All SkyMiles members will continue to earn 4 SkyMiles per dollar spent.

Delta-Hertz Elite Status Match

In addition to improved earning rates, Delta Medallion members can leverage their status for elite status in the Hertz Gold Plus Rewards program. Delta Medallion status matches as follows:

  • Diamond and Platinum Medallion elites now receive President’s Circle status.
  • Gold and Silver Medallion elites now receive Five Star status.

Other Options to Get Hertz Elite Status

Keep in mind that status matching your Delta status to Hertz Gold Plus Rewards is not your only path to elite status with Hertz.

If you hold the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card, you can receive complimentary Hertz President’s Circle status. So, if you hold Delta Medallion Silver or Gold, you are better off using your credit card to get Hertz status instead of your Medallion status.

Linking Your Delta and Hertz Accounts

Linking your Delta and Hertz accounts is simple, straightforward, and shouldn't take much time at all.

  • Log into your Delta SkyMiles account.
  • Head over to the “My Profile” section.
  • Choose “Other Loyalty Programs.” Then scroll to the “Car Loyalty Programs” section.
  • Enter your Hertz Gold Plus Rewards account number, and you are set.

Our Take

What's not to like about earning more miles for the same spend or leveraging your elite status with one program for status in another?

This news is great for Delta Medallion members, and it makes a change to hear Delta improving its program instead of devaluing its awards!

Whether you regularly rent a car or not that much, it is worth linking your accounts. That way, if you end up renting a car with Hertz, you won't miss out on any bonus points and the perks of holding elite status.
