UPDATE: The Barclaycard Arrival™ World MasterCard® is no longer accepting applications. You can find the best current offers on the Hot Deals page.
Discover has released a new no annual fee travel rewards credit card – the Discover it Miles Card. It certainly competes with the best no annual fee travel card that is available from Barclaycard, the Barclaycard Arrival World Mastercard. Comparing the various benefits of each card might help you decide if one of these cards is perfect for you. So, let’s compare the features and see how they look!
Discover it has developed a great reputation for being a card that allows you to accumulate great points toward cash back and other rewards, and they are now offering a card that is tailored to those looking for travel rewards. The Discover it® Miles Card allows users to receive 1.5 miles for every dollar spent, in every category.
In typical Discover fashion, they also allow you to receive plenty of bonuses. This includes receiving double miles during the first year—at the end of your first year, your miles will be automatically doubled. Receiving 3 miles or cash back per $1 on all purchases is an incredible benefit.
Another great feature that Discover consistently offers is no annual fee. This means you get to enjoy all of the great Discover benefits, at no cost to you.
Discover offers all cardholders access to their FICO scores for free, on their statement each month. This is a great way to keep track of your credit and make sure nothing unusual happens. Watch your credit rise as you become more fiscally responsible! Discover also offers unparalleled customer service, 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. Plus, get top-notch fraud protection from Discover.
With the Discover it® Miles Card, you can redeem your miles easily and flexibly, with no blackout dates. Charge your travel to your Discover it® Miles Card, then redeem your miles for a statement credit or cash back. You can redeem your miles for cash back or travel purchases at the same rate! With a few other great perks, like $30 of credit each year for in-flight wi-fi, this card really has generous perks for a no annual fee card.
Barclaycard Arrival™ World MasterCard® (No longer accepting applications)
Barclaycard is starting to get a reputation for offering great travel credit cards like the Barclaycard Arrival Plus® World Elite Mastercard®. The Arrival Card is no exception and is consistently recognized for having terrific benefits.
Arrival Card cardholders will earn two miles on travel and dining, and 1 mile per dollar on all other spend. Those miles can be redeemed easily and flexibly, however you would like. Book your own travel, then get credited for the miles in your account via statement credit.
This means you travel how you want when you want. No worries about using special booking sites or having any blackout dates. In addition, Barclaycard Arrival cardholders get a 10% statement credit for all travel miles redemptions. This helps to inflate the value of the miles that you receive and redeem with the Arrival Card.
The Arrival Card has no annual fee, and it's worth pointing out that you get a lower redemption rate when redeeming your miles for cash back instead of travel.
Both the Discover it® Miles Card and the Arrival Card have some great perks for travelers, especially since they are both no annual fee cards. For those travelers looking to receive plenty of miles for free, the Discover it® Miles Card is a great option since you can receive 3x points per $1 on all purchases for 12 months. And you can redeem your miles for cash back or travel at the same rate.
It’s a good bet that Discover will up the ante at some point to become a little more competitive in the travel card market, but this is certainly a great start and puts them in line for being a top travel card.
