The holiday season is a great opportunity for airlines and customers. The shopping frenzy is excellent for airlines to try and drive more transactions through their shopping portals, while customers get tempted by many of the bonuses on offer. We recently reported that you could pick up 1,000 bonus miles with Southwest for dining out and that United was offering up to 1,500 bonus miles for shopping through their MileagePlus portal.
Alaska is offering up to 1,500 miles for shopping through their mileage plan shopping portal. Shopping portals are a great way to keep accounts active; even if you don't hit a bonus threshold for additional points, any posted transaction that earns you miles will extend the life of your miles within Mileage Plus
The promo runs through December 21, 2016, at 11:59 PM Eastern Time. The promotion is two-tiered with a minimum spend required to earn the bonus miles. You will earn 500 bonus miles for a spend of $100, while to qualify for the full 1,500 miles bonus, you will need to spend $200. The purchases do not have to be made on a single item, so cumulative spending will all count towards your total spend to be eligible for the bonus. Alaska advises that you should allow up to 8 to 10 weeks for the bonus miles to be credited to your Mileage Plan account. The full terms and conditions can be found on the promotion page.
