Marriott is offering double points starting with your second stay through June 4, 2019. While it probably isn’t worth going out of your way to take advantage of the deal, it’s certainly worth registering by the May 21st deadline to make sure you earn the extra points for stays you already have planned.

Our Take

While double base points are not especially lucrative compared to past promotions, it only takes a few seconds to claim them. The only disappointing aspect of this offer is that you don’t earn any extra base points until your second stay. However, the weekend-night bonus of 500 points is good from your first stay, which is a nice win.

If you or one of your travel companions don’t already have a Marriott Bonvoy account, there is a much better promotion for new members offering a free night after completing two stays. You can find our writeup on the new-member promo here.

For those looking to squeeze every bit of value out of a three-night weekend stay, there may be a way to trigger two stays on a single weekend with a little extra work. We haven't tested this, but a stay is usually defined by consecutive nights. If you're traveling with a companion from Friday to Monday, you might consider having one person book Friday and Sunday night from his or her Marriott account, and the other person book Saturday.

If you have a free night certificate from one of the many Marriott co-branded cards, you might be able to book the middle night with your annual free-night certificate. If you book the same room type for all three reservations, the hotel may be able to link your reservations so you don't have to change rooms.  One of the AwardWallet staff will be testing this out in June to see if his travel companion can snag the free night from the new-member promotion. We'll report back with results. In the meantime, we'd love to hear from you in the comments.
