“Update: The registration deadline for this promotion was March 31, 2020. For those who have already registered, you can earn extra points on stays with a checkout date on or before May 15, 2020.”

Hyatt is back with a new Bonus Journeys promotion. This promotion gives all Hyatt loyalty members the chance to earn 2X points on future stays. Plus, if you hold The World Of Hyatt Credit Card, you can also earn 1,500 extra points for stays that include a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. In this post, we'll cover some of the promotion's basics and how you can use that to maximize your opportunities.

Is it Available to Me?

The Bonus Journeys promotion is available to all World of Hyatt members.

Basic Terms

The promotion allows you to improve your earnings at all World of Hyatt properties. These include new brands like Thompson Hotels and Destination Hotels, as well as participating MGM Resorts destinations in Las Vegas, Small Luxury Hotels of the World hotels, and Lindblad Expeditions.

  • You must be a member of the World of Hyatt and register for the promotion before March 31, 2020, to participate.
  • All eligible paid stays under this promotion must occur after registration and have a checkout date between February 15 and May 15, 2020 (“Promotion Period”).
  • Beginning on your second eligible stay, you will receive double points per eligible stay at Hyatt hotels and resorts worldwide, as well as partner hotel brands such as M life resorts, Small Luxury Hotels of the World and Lindblad Expeditions.
  • Maximum 100,000 Bonus Points may be earned for the Double Points bonus during Promotion Period.

However, this isn't the best part of the Bonus Journeys promotion. The best part may just lie in the second part of the offer, and that's available to…

Bonus for Credit Cardmembers

World of Hyatt Card cardholders also will earn 1,500 Bonus Points from each stay–starting with the second stay–as long as the stay includes a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday night. Members can earn up to 100,000 Bonus Points from this aspect of the promotion. However, you would need to complete more than 66 eligible stays between now and May 15 to reach that limit.

Even better, award stays are eligible for this bonus. The terms and conditions note that: “for the purpose of this promotion, an eligible night is defined as any night at a participating hotel where a member is paying an Eligible Rate or redeems a free night award.” To be sure, Mark Ostermann at Miles to Memories confirmed with Hyatt that you'll earn the 1,500-point bonus on award stays.

Bonus Earning Structure

Members earn 5X base points per dollar spent. With the Bonus Journeys promotion, you'll now earn 10X points per dollar. If you pay with the World of Hyatt Card, you'll earn an additional 4X. That means that World of Hyatt members can earn a total of 14 points per dollar spent during the Bonus Journeys promotion when paying with the World of Hyatt Card.

It gets even better for elite members. Discoverist elite members earn a 10% bonus on the base earning rate of 5X points. Explorist members earn a 20% bonus and Globalist members earn a 30% bonus. That means a Globalist cardholder could earn up to 15.5 points per dollar during the Bonus Journeys promotion.

Shortcut to Hyatt Elite Status

There's another reason to be excited about being a World of Hyatt Card cardholder: a shortcut to earning World of Hyatt elite status.

As a World of Hyatt Card cardholder, you receive 5 Elite Night credits just for holding the card. However, the card also provides solid opportunities for members to achieve a higher status. This can be accomplished in part through credit card spend. You'll earn 2 Elite Night credits for every $5,000 spent on the card.

You need to achieve 60 Elite Night Credits to reach Globalist.

In addition to elite status benefits, there are other perks you can earn along the way as you earn more Elite Night credits.

While some loyalty programs don't let travelers earn rewards from award stays, Hyatt counts award nights toward earning elite status.

Our Take

For paid stays, the Bonus Journeys 2X points promotion could earn members between 10 and 15.5 points per dollar depending on their elite status and whether or not the traveler pays for the stay with the World of Hyatt Card.

That doesn't even include the 1,500 point bonus offer over weekends. If you can make the additional 1,500 point offer work for you, this may be the single most exciting part of the promotion. While it's not quite as simple as last year's promotion, you still might benefit from finding properties as low as 3,500 points per night after the bonus points! Will you benefit from Hyatt's Bonus Journeys promotion?

  • I hope the global crisis situation finishes rapidly so as to start again earning ponts and miles…

  • This seems like a really odd time to roll out a promotion encouraging travel since a lot of communities are ordering quarantines and are demanding certain businesses shut down entirely. I’d think this would be better received had they waited until things calmed down and then encouraged everyone who’s experiencing cabin fever to get out and let loose after being cooped up.

    • It is a very odd time to be running promotions like this now. It’s actually kind of tone deaf. They should be running promotions to buy points instead.

  • ron_vaughn@hotmail.com says:

Not going ANYWHERE just yet. And probably not before May 31st. Sorry Hyatt.

  • I understand the need for these promotions, but it’s hard not to laugh at them given the situation globally.

  • given the covid-19 situation, i’m not sure having a promotion that ends by May 15th is too meaningful. Hyatt should consider extending this atleast into late summer.

  • Not sure if we’ll be able to follow through with the stays, but I did register both for myself and my husband.

Just canceled two nights with Hyatt to celebrate my 70th birthday at The Confidante Miami Beach… Due to Covid-19 guidelines. 🙁

    • I know a Happy Birthday here doesn’t make up for the trip loss :), but I do hope it’s a happy one nonetheless and that your trip can be rescheduled and taken shortly.

  • Let’s revisit AFTER worldwide travel restrictions are lifted…

  • Sorry this is off topic but I jumped to the most recent article. Has anyone else had issues with points not posting? For around a week now I stopped getting a notification when I comment. Is the notification feature down or are points not being awarded? Sorry for being off topic.

  • This is a great promotion if you are staying at Hyatt hotels. Let’s hope the shelter in place order in NY is lifted and we can all travel freely again.

  • The idea of completing 66 stays in the next couple of months very much sounds like a fantasy.

  • Hyatt probably does not expect tremendous response to the promotion.

  • Wow they are really trying to get people to get out and stay with them. Right now I just don’t see that really happening. Maybe more towards May? I think a lot of bonus promos will be coming out and ya’ll will have a flurry to keep up with. I hope that maybe in coming promos they’ll have their members be auto enrolled?

    • auto-enroll would be nice but they want you to come back to the web site and get enticed to travel with them 🙂

  • I just canceled what was my upcoming stay in Vancouver. Stupid virus.

  • Hope this chaos ends soon, so we can take advantage of this kind of deals…
