With a current promotion, you could earn JetBlue Mosaic status with as little as $15,000 of spending on an eligible JetBlue credit card. While that's a huge reduction from normal requirements, is it worth it? Here's our analysis of the math involved, what you'll get out of it, and some important considerations.

Paths to JetBlue Mosaic Status in 2021

As with other airlines, JetBlue TrueBlue has reduced status-earning requirements in 2021. There are currently four options for earning their top status, called Mosaic:

Options 1 and 2 are slashed by 50% from requirements in normal years. Option 4 exists only for 2021. Meanwhile, option 3 exists just like normal from any other year.

New Promotion for JetBlue Mosaic Status via Credit Card Spend

JetBlue has revealed a fifth option for those pursuing Mosaic status. For those who spend $15,000 on their JetBlue Plus Card between October 1 and December 31, 2021, you'll be guaranteed Mosaic status through all of 2022.

Given that you typically need to spend $50,000 on your JetBlue Plus Card in a year, this is far below half of the typical requirement. However, you get only 3 months to do it instead of a full year.

Note that this offer is not available on the JetBlue Business Card or the $0 annual fee JetBlue Card.

There is no enrollment required. The full details for this promotion can be found here.

Is It Worth It?

If we want to calculate whether this promotion is “worth it”, let's compare the value of what you get against the value of what you put forth to earn it.

What You Get With Mosaic Status

JetBlue's top-tier Mosaic status comes with the following perks:

  • 3x additional TrueBlue points per dollar spent on JetBlue ticket purchases
  • No fees for same day flight changes for you and your companions on the same itinerary
  • 2 free checked bags for you and your companions on the same itinerary
  • Free alcohol on board
  • Same day upgrades to Even More Space seats (extra-legroom economy) at no cost
  • At select airports, use the Even More Speed lane — which is a priority line at security
  • Early boarding access
  • 24/7 access to a dedicated customer service line for Mosaic members
  • 15,000 bonus points added to your account if you earn the status through flying (not if you earn it via credit card spending)

What This New Promotion Requires From You

Obviously, the requirements of this new promotion are straightforward. Spend $15,000 on your JetBlue Plus Card from October through December 2021. The unspoken part of this equation means you aren't putting that spend on other credit cards. Those cards may offer you more in return.

Spending on other cards could offer you higher earning rates, could earn transferable currencies you prefer more, or help you earn bonuses from welcome offers or spending bonuses on other credit cards.

Assigning Value to the Mosaic Perks

So, what are you REALLY getting out of JetBlue Mosaic elite status? You already get free checked bags by having theJetBlue Plus Card. Same-day upgrades and early boarding don't offer much value, since I don't want to spend extra time on a plane when I don't have to. And same-day upgrades aren't guaranteed; those seats usually fill up early. If you have CLEAR or TSA PreCheck, the Even More Speed perk doesn't really offer much.

Essentially, what you get out of Mosaic status is free alcohol, dedicated customer service, and fee-free changes. Plus, you get higher earning rates.

Are these perks “worth it” to not put $15k of spending onto other cards but instead to put it on this card, so you can get JetBlue Mosaic status via this credit card spend offer? Make sure to weigh the real benefits against the real costs.

Our Take

This is an interesting offer. For those who really covet JetBlue Mosaic status, having a reduced-cost option to get it via credit card spending may be fantastic. If you were pursuing Mosaic status anyway, then this could be good news.

For the rest of us, continuing to put our credit card spending toward bonuses on other cards is likely a better use of $15,000 in swipes. It all depends on how much you value Mosaic status, so crunch the numbers before you decide.
