Airline shopping portal promotions are a great way to earn extra miles for your next flight. Currently, three airline shopping portals have Back to School promotions, offering up to 5,500 total bonus points together with eligible spending through early August.
Bonuses from airline shopping portals come in addition to the rewards you will earn through the shopping portals and from making purchases with a rewards-earning credit card. That means you can triple-dip on rewards with your online purchases.
These promotions last far longer than the average shopping portal offers. Here are all the details.

Current Airline Shopping Portal Promotions
School summer holidays are in full swing, and the Back to School promotions are now coming out. The first three have arrived from Southwest, United, and Alaska. After reaching the spending threshold in both shopping portals, members will earn up to 5,500 bonus miles.
Each portal has three spending tiers to earn bonus points. The Alaska offer ends on August 4, while the Southwest and United offers end on August 8, 2025. We will most likely see more airlines launching their Back to School promotions in the coming days.

Our Take
Most months, two or three of the five major U.S. airline shopping portals offer bonus miles when reaching a minimum spend threshold. Strangely, we didn't see any Independence Day promotions this year. Instead, three airlines have launched a Back to School promotion. We should see more airlines with such a promotion later this week.
If you only choose one airline, Southwest is giving the best rewards, offering up to 5X rewards on eligible spending. On the other hand, up to 4.3X rewards from United isn't bad. But Alaska's offer isn't really worth writing home about. Maximize all three promotions to earn 5,500 bonus miles.
We recommend checking sites like Cashback Monitor to compare portal bonuses to ensure you get the best earning rate on your purchase. Perhaps you're better off earning Amex points through Rakuten and then transferring those points to score domestic flights from 3,000 Amex points. But no matter which shopping portal you use, be sure to use a credit card optimized for online shopping or everyday purchases to further juice your rewards.
