Our Take

Ironically, when it comes to shopping portal promotions, you need to shop around. Always compare prices and earning rates. Ask yourself if you are overpaying for something worth a few hundred bonus miles. You need to decide on whether the promotion works for you; if you need to keep your miles from expiring, or need a few miles to hit a redemption threshold, then you might opt to go with the promotion. Otherwise look for the best deal for what you want.

  • If you have purchases the bonus points are always welcome.

  • For me. it’s always such a frustrating battle getting miles and promo miles credited, it has got to the point where I don’t even bother with these shopping promotions.

  • Love these promotions, but I get nervous when I don’t see my shopping experience posted…

    • True. It can be a pain when it doesn’t post. But if you follow the “help” page and list the stuff they want, I’ve noticed it almost always posts right after that.

  • Gabe Meyer says:

Digressing slightly, but does anyone know if there is an MPX miles equivalent for other (non-United) mileage programs?

  • It is a good top up opportunity and nothing more.

  • I’ve used the portal before & it’s a great way to extend your miles. It’s not a hassle, it’s quite easy actually

  • I’ve also noticed that the American portal gives more miles. Also noticed that Mileage Plus X gives lower miles. Interesting!

  • This is a short period of bonus. I would love to take advantage, since I need United miles but won’t buy something I don’t really need right now.
I usually find that United doesn’t give as many miles per dollar as American does. So I usually go for American miles, especially since I live in an American hub.

  • Appreciate the info. Pretty short promo window, so I likely won’t use it – mostly use United portal when someone in the house needs to keeps miles from expiring.

  • I feel like we will see larger holiday bonuses in November.

    • Potentially true, but I certainly wouldn’t put off a purchase if the price is right, right now, on the chance that I might earn a few more bonus miles next month.

  • I participated in the previous promotion because I did have a large purchase that would qualify. I got the points for the purchase, so I know it actually went through, but I have never received the bonus points. This is a reminder to pursue it…I don’t look forward to the process, I’m sure they don’t make it simple. Unless I have a specific redemption in mind (which I did at the time) I prefer to use the Chase portal. I love the flexible points and I think it would be easier to deal with Chase if there were missing points.

  • If one is targeted, the current Mile Play promo is also offering bonus miles for a $50 shopping portal purchase… if you haven’t already checked if you’re eligible yet, might be worthwhile to.

  • Don’t know about everyone else but for me it’s starting to get to that time of the year where almost all major purchases are weighed against the option of waiting for Black Friday for a better price. Bonuses like this help in a pinch since they work with any store in the portal.
