Recently we reported that major airlines like American, Alaska, and United have all been introducing bonuses on shopping through their portals. It now seems that Delta does not want to miss the boat and they are offering their own SkyMiles bonuses for shopping through the Delta SkyMiles Shopping portal.
What is the Promotion?
Delta is offering 500 bonus miles for purchases of $150, and a bonus of 1,500 miles for spends over $750. The offer runs through December the 9, 2016. The bonuses earned are a one-time only offer, up to a maximum of 1,500 miles. The bonus miles are in addition to whatever you'd normally earn through the shopping portal.
What are the Details?
Glancing at the full terms and conditions of the Holiday 2016 bonus the offer only applies to “qualifying purchases”. Items that do not qualify include cancellations, shipping and handling, gift cards, taxes, returns, and any other cash equivalent purchases. Also, certain products are not eligible for bonus miles.
Interesting Offers:
- Earn 5x miles for purchases of Backcountry that are over $50, includes free shipping
- Earn 2x miles for purchases on new Samsung products
- Earn 2x miles for purchases with Horchow. This is coupled with a 25% discount on décor, and a 30% discount on rugs
- Earn 2x miles on Nike purchases, with current deals including 40% off on selected styles, and free shipping
- Earn 2x miles on Bose Quiet Comfort 35 Wireless headphones, the deal also includes free shipping.
Overall, this is a good way for SkyMiles members to earn some bonus miles this holiday season.

I suppose this is better than nothing. I won’t be taking advantage of it though, especially since there are award programs with much more valuable points structures. It’s next to impossible to get award flights with Delta without frequent business travel or signup bonuses.
This is the time when flyers and milers should use these offers to maximize their miles. And Delta miles done expire unlike the rest of them. Skymiles is the goto program
It’s so strange. Delta flights are always fine, but their member programs always seem to be lagging behind the rest of the other big carriers. I’m glad to see they are trying to improve but this is just trying to play catch up with the big boys. They need to innovate.
Robert, when it comes to innovation (or whatever airlines call these changes), Delta tends to lead the pack. They’re leading the pack to a fully revenue-based loyalty program. It isn’t innovation that customers want, but the industry and financial folks sure do like it.
It’s a good way to pick up some extra miles. Hope the other airline shopping portals offer this as well.
I love this time of year for all the extra bonus deals like giftcard bonuses and miles too!
This is better than nothing, but I think Delta used to have much better promotions for end-of-the-year shopping.
I guess I will pocket 500 miles this times…thanks!
This is nice but SkyMiles have such limited usability. Delta has devalued without notice time and again and has apparently pulled award charts from their website entirely.
