Kuala Lumpur ranks as one of my favorite cities in the world. The unique blend of cultures and rapidly developing economy gives it a vibrant feeling unlike anywhere else. Across my three previous visits, I've stayed at various hotels ranging from the Holiday Inn Express Kuala Lumpur City Centre to The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur. But for my wife and my most recent five-night stay in August 2025, I opted for the Category 1 Hyatt Centric City Centre Kuala Lumpur.

This property opened in December 2024. So, although it's still quite new, it's not new enough for Hyatt's new hotel bonus. Here's a quick look at my recent stay, and why I think it's a great option if you want to redeem points for a stay in Kuala Lumpur.

Booking

As a Category 1 World of Hyatt property, you can book nights in a standard room with one king bed or two twin beds for just 3,500 points per night on off-peak dates, 5,000 points per night on standard dates, and 6,500 points per night on peak dates.

The Hyatt Centric City Centre Kuala Lumpur didn't initially have award availability for our five-night stay. However, availability for a standard room with two twin beds became available about a week before we arrived in Kuala Lumpur. So, I transferred Hyatt points that I recently earned through The World of Hyatt Credit Card sign-up bonus to my wife's Hyatt Globalist account to book the stay.

At the time of our booking, this stay would have otherwise cost $1,136. That means we got an incredible 4.54¢ per point on this booking. For reference, AwardWallet users average 2.19¢ per point when redeeming Hyatt points. That means we received exceptional value from this stay.

Check-in

When we arrived from the airport in a Grab — an Uber-like ride-hailing service popular in Malaysia — a bellhop in a bright-colored Batik-style shirt greeted us and loaded our bags on a trolley.

Check-in with more staff wearing Batik shirts was friendly and quick. The staff member didn't share details like the breakfast hours or location, but that may have been because we distracted him by remarking about the hotel's theming. Turns out the area was the site of tin mining in the past, so the hotel was designed to honor that legacy.

Room

In recognizing my wife's Hyatt Globalist status, the Hyatt Centric City Centre Kuala Lumpur upgraded us to a higher-floor room with a balcony overlooking the Petronas towers. Although the balcony was sizable, it strangely didn't have any chairs or other furniture.

The room uses a different yet functional open design. The sink and open-air closet are near the entry door.

If you like to unpack your suitcase into drawers or shelves, you won't find many in the Hyatt Centric City Centre Kuala Lumpur rooms. We ended up plopping our packing cubes on top of the open closet.

The toilet and shower are located in adjacent rooms between the sink area and the sleeping area. The shower has both handheld and rainfall shower heads. And we were pleasantly surprised to find a full Japanese bidet installed on the toilet.

We found the beds to be comfortable, and the bedding to be breathable. The hotel has several universal outlets throughout the room, meaning you can plug in U.S. devices without needing an adapter.

Restaurants and Amenities

In the Hyatt Centric City Centre Kuala Lumpur lobby area, you'll find an attractive-looking cafe named TanBuri that offers reasonably-priced meals throughout the day. For example, breakfast sets start at 12 Malaysian Ringgit, which is about $3.

The hotel also has an Italian restaurant named Il Forno on its 19th floor, which continues to lean into the tin mining theme. This restaurant is where a buffet breakfast is available for a relatively expensive $19 for adults ($9 for children 6 to 12), and is where we enjoyed complimentary breakfast daily as a Hyatt Globalist perk.

On the 21st floor, you'll find a bar — named @21 Rooftop Bar — that doubles as a poolside cafe during the day.

And yes, as you might expect from the poolside cafe reference, the Hyatt Centric City Centre Kuala Lumpur does have a pool on the 21st floor. So, you can swim while overlooking the Kuala Lumpur skyline and the iconic Petronas towers.

The gym is also on the 21st floor, with windows facing toward the towers.

However, you won't get a great view while working out since a wall and some greenery obscure your sightline.

Our Take

As long as the Hyatt Centric City Centre Kuala Lumpur remains a Category 1 property — and there's award availability — it will be our go-to in Kuala Lumpur. It's centrally located, so it's just a short walk from many of our favorite Kuala Lumpur attractions, including the KLCC Park, Helipad bar, and an NZ Curry House location. You really can't beat redeeming 3,500 to 6,500 points per night to stay in the middle of Kuala Lumpur at a Hyatt Centric. And the hotel delights with friendly staff and a thoughtful room design.
