Iberia Plus is celebrating its 25th birthday by offering a dual Avios Promotion. You can get 25% off Avios needed for redemptions, and for paid flights, you will earn 25% more Avios. While the earning bonus is good, there is some excellent redemption value to be had, especially since Iberia has a peak and off-peak redemption period.
The offer is relatively straightforward with the following key terms:
- Both earning and redemption offers are for bookings made through April 11, 2017
- Offers are valid for travel through June 11, 2017. After the peak travel season in the summer, the offer is then again valid from October 1,2017, through December 15, 2017
- You must book via the Iberia Plus website
Great Redemption Value
This offer has some great value since it is mainly targeted at Iberia’s off-peak travel period.
There is already a discount provided by Iberia on award bookings made during its off-peak period. For example, a band 6 one-way peak business class award would set you back 62,500 Avios while the same flight during the off-peak would set you back 42,500 Avios. Band 5, which gets you from New York to Madrid, usually sets you back 34,000 Avios one-way in Business class. With the 25% promotion discount, it will now set you back only 25,500 Avios plus taxes and fees. That is great value for a business class flight from the US to Madrid.
What makes this promotion really interesting is the flexibility of Avios, and the fact that you can transfer them freely between British Airways and Iberia, so if you have a ton of Avios sat in a BA account, you can move them across and take advantage of Iberia’s reduced rates.
In addition, although British Airways and Iberia both operate a peak/off peak calendar, they are not the same, so what may be a peak day for BA could well be an off-peak day for Iberia and vice versa. If you don’t have enough Avios you could always transfer some American Express Membership Rewards; luckily the transfer is quick and normally takes less than 24 hours, so you can fully take advantage of the offer.
This is a great offer from Iberia, and well worth considering if you have some planned travel in the offer windows over the next few months. With quite a few award spaces available on transatlantic routes over the next few months, taking advantage of this offer should be super easy and will save you a ton of Avios and cash.
