Putting the 100,000 point signup bonus into context for folks who have transitioned from SPG, the bonus is equal to 33,333 SPG points—close to the all-time-high welcome offers on the SPG co-brand cards. The reality is, anytime a signup bonus increases into 100K+ point territory, we think it’s worth evaluating your application strategy to see how it might fit into your rewards portfolio.

Marriott Card Feature Benefits

To appeal to all travelers, Marriott offers a diverse portfolio of co-branded cards. The two cards currently offering increased offers represent the base and mid-tier options.

Marriott Bonvoy Bold™ Credit Card

As the base card for Chase and Marriott's partnership, the Bonvoy Bold card is the only Marriott card currently on offer with no annual fee. With complimentary Silver Elite status, courtesy of the 15 elite-night credits issued with the card, this increased 50,000 point sign-up bonus is particularly enticing.

Marriott Bonvoy Boundless™ Credit Card

We've talked previously about the lasting value proposition of the Marriott Bonvoy Card. It provides plenty of benefits in addition to the raised signup offer, including an annual free-night certificate and complimentary elite-status perks. These benefits can more than account for the out-of-pocket expense of carrying the card and make it worth holding onto over the long term.

Feature benefits include:

  • A Free Night Award (valued up to 35,000 points) every year at account anniversary
  • Complimentary Silver Elite Status
  • Path to Gold Elite Status after spending $35,000 on purchases each account year
  • 15 elite-night credits each calendar year
  • 6X Bonvoy points for every $1 spent at 7,000+ participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels
100,000 points is enough for a night at the luxurious St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort, even at peak pricing!
100,000 points is suitable for a night at the luxurious St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort, even at peak pricing!

One of the major strengths of the Marriott portfolio is its vast footprint. No matter where you go, whether for an overnight stay before a flight or a luxurious destination trip, you're going to find a Marriott hotel to stay. This makes the free night award a particularly good value.

Marriott Transfer Partners

Another thing worth mentioning is the flexibility of Marriott's Bonvoy points. Regardless if you frequent Marriott properties, Bonvoy points are some of the most versatile in the reward travel world. You can transfer them to more than 40 partners! You also receive 5,000 bonus miles for every 60,000 points you transfer. That means that even if you (somehow) can't find a way to redeem your Bonvoy points for a stay at any one of their 29 hotel brands, you can use them to top-off one of your frequent flyer accounts.

Application Rules

The application restrictions for the Marriott cards are a complicated maze of rules and restrictions designed to confuse even the most seasoned points and miles fans. This includes Marriott specific application rules that layer on top of Chase’s 5/24 policy.

Both cards are subject to 5/24, so if you have opened 5 or more new personal credit card accounts in the previous 24 months, you won’t be approved for this card. You can get familiar with Chase’s application policy in our comprehensive 5/24 guide.

On top of the Chase specific rules, Marriott co-brand cards are subject to a complicated set of restrictions which change depending on the cards you already hold, have opened in the recent past, or received a welcome offer on in the previous 24 months. For a full breakdown of the application rules, check out our dedicated post covering Marriott’s application restrictions.

Final Thoughts

Both of these cards offer great value for different people. With a signup bonus of 50,000 Bonvoy points and no annual fee, the Marriott Bonvoy Bold™ Credit Card is as good as it gets.  For anyone that can use a free hotel night, the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless™ Credit Card continues to offer lasting value year-on-year. The 100,000 point sign-up bonus makes it all the more appealing.

Whether you're a Marriott fan or simply looking to diversify your points portfolio, now is a great time to get a Bonvoy credit card.
