Other Transfer Options

If you are a little short of points, Flying Blue is one of the easiest programs to use since it is a transfer partner for almost every major point currency out there. Aside from American Express, you can also transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards, Citi ThankYou, Capital One Miles, and even Marriott Bonvoy points to Flying Blue.

Using Flying Blue Miles

When it comes to using Flying Blue miles, there are plenty of sweet spots and good deals to be had. Great redemption options with Flying Blue include:

  • The contiguous U.S. to the Middle East: From 34,000 miles in economy one way.
  • The contiguous U.S. to Israel: From 25,000 miles in economy and 53,000 miles in business class one way.
  • Partner awards from the contiguous U.S. to Mexico: from 14,500 miles in economy one way.

Aside from the set sweet spots with Flying Blue, the monthly Promo Rewards can be a great choice for picking up a deal. Each month you can get discounts between 25%-50% on select routes worldwide. The promotion often includes routes from the U.S. to Europe, and regularly offers awards in both economy and business class.

Our Take

If you are looking for an award with Flying Blue, then this promotion should minimize the number of Amex points required. While this is not the highest transfer bonus we have ever seen, 25% seems to be about average nowadays. Since Amex transfers can't be reversed, we recommend you research your itinerary before you transfer any miles. Flying Blue will allow you to put award tickets on hold for up to 48 hours, which is a great way to make sure someone doesn't snag your flight while you're making the transfer.
