Tax season isn't fun for anyone, but Southwest and TurboTax are making it a little less painful. Currently, Southwest Rapid Rewards members can earn 1,000 Rapid Rewards points by filing their taxes with TurboTax. Just click through the TurboTax link on the Southwest Rapid Rewards portal and file your taxes before April 15, 2019. The points will appear in your account within 8 weeks.
This works with all TurboTax online products (including the free version). Just note that boxed/download versions of the TurboTax software are not eligible for the 1,000 Rapid Rewards points promotion.
Key Terms
- Earn 1,000 free Rapid Rewards points after filing taxes with TurboTax
- The points may take up to 8 weeks to be credited to your Southwest account
- The bonus is limited to once per person
- Bonus points don't count towards Companion Pass or A-List status
- Only the online TurboTax products are eligible
Our Take
This is a great deal if you're already planning to use TurboTax to file your taxes online. Alaska Airlines, United, and American are also offering bonus miles for filing with TurboTax through their respective shopping portals, but at a much lower rate. You can earn bonus miles if you're using other tax prep software like H&R Block, but this the best bonus that we've seen. Use a cash back syndication site like CashBackMonitor to see the rates for all airline and cash back portals in one place.

Thanks for the tip on Free File. Hopefully they’ll raise the income limit next year so more people can take advantage of it.
I also did the 1200 AA miles through TaxAct.
got my taxes done!!! Nice bonus!
Great deal for anyone who didn’t qualify for FreeFile! I only qualified through H&R Block so I couldn’t use this one this year, but I’ll be on the lookout if I can’t do my taxes free next year.
Glad that’s over with for another year!
Awesome, love Turbotax and free miles!!!
Thanks for posting, miles for awesome Turbotax, so appreiciate it!
I did one not through turbo tax but for taxact which only cost $1 to file and earned 1200 AA miles.
Darn. Already filed my taxes. Wish I knew about this sooner.
it would be very cool if H&R Block did something similar during tax season, for their customers
Awesome way to earn bonus points!
I already filed, but who would of thought of points for taxes!!!!!
Thank you! I’ve confirmed that this works.
Thanks for the reminder. I almost forgot about this!
Do you have to have the paid version of Turbo Tax to use this?
Nope, the bonus is available for the free version too.
Refund and points – nice
Thanks for the reminder……..to do my taxes!
RR points are great! Thanks for reminding us of this,.
Good way to have some extra activity in your Southwest loyalty account (24 month rule for expiration due to inactivity, if I remember correctly).
Nice offer for some extra miles
I didnt even think of using the shopping portal when I filed. Guess Ill have to remember that for next year.
Points for taxes….do I get a 1099 for them
That’s quick. Thanks for the information.
I guess rewards like this come out for tax return procrastinators. Too bad I already filed to grab these miles.
I just removed the comma.
“Tax season isn’t fun for anyone but Southwest and TurboTax…”
I’m curious if filing for an extension works for getting those miles…does anyone have a data point?
What triggers the miles is paying a fee to TurboTax — so if they charge when you file an extension, it will work.
Good way to pick up a few bonus points if you need taxes filed.
I wonder if these points post in association with any other discount such as Fidelity, Bank of America, etc…
I’ve taken advantage of this multiple years.
Just in time! I’ll be using this today.
Points for tax filing…. what next!
Last year I did this promo and it took a very long time to post the miles.
AA has a similar offer for fewer miles. It should be noted that there are less expensive on line tax prep services than TurboTax, so this is really only a good deal if you are filing for free.
Oh man! I always forget about taxes in April since I file much earlier. Oh well, maybe another time I can take advantage of this.
It’s a great amount to give for doing something you already have to do.
I wish this promo had come out a few weeks earlier. Have already filed taxes.
I wish I had seen this years ago. I would have really cleaned up on points
I just finished my taxes so I can’t take advantage of this offer. I probably wouldn’t have used Southwest anyway as I value other airlines mikes more.
Thanks for the reminder. Taking advantage of this offer and using a credit card offering an additional discount will remove some of the sting paying my federal taxes.
This reminder came just in time as I am finishing up my taxes now. Thanks so much!
I have used Turbo tax for years. It’s a wonderful product and great customer service for questions. I’d highly recommend it.
I filed my taxes with Turbo Tax, unfortunately I did not do it through a shopping portal!
Sorry to hear that news. Yes, one must train themselves to always check the shopping portals first. For any online purchase – of goods or services – where there is meaningful competition, there’s a chance that there is competition for your business in the shopping portals.
