This IHG Points Purchase promotion has ended, however, you can still purchase IHG points.

IHG has announced a flash sale on points; through May 19, 2017 you will receive a 100% bonus on points purchases. This is excellent value; almost as good as this year’s Daily Getaways in terms of value.

Luxury Hotel at Night

Key Terms and Conditions

The promotion is straightforward, with relatively few terms and conditions:

  • You need to purchase the points directly from the IHG website
  • Offer is valid till 23:59 ET May 19, 2017
  • Allow up to 72 hours for the points to post to your account

By taking advantage of the promotion, you can pick up IHG points for as low as 0.575 cents, which is a great value.

Using the Promotion

Even if you don’t have any stays immediately planned, there is still some excellent value to be had from picking up some cheap IHG points. If you have a large points balance that is due to expire, purchasing these points will stop them from expiring. In addition, you can also take advantage of some of the great options with the current IHG PointBreaks offer, where you can pick up a night from 5,000 points—which works out as cheap as $29 per night.

Overall

Although buying hotel points or airline miles may not be the best use of your cash, sometimes they can have great value, saving you in the long run. How best to utilize this latest offer from IHG will ultimately depend on what your future stay plans and patterns are. Either way, it is well worth considering picking up some cheap points if you are sure you will have a use for them.

  • I like the IHG promotions like Accelerate. To sometimes be able to find a hotel night for only 5000 points is a great value. This is a good deal if you need to add to your point balance.

  • Sebastian says:

Is there a maximum number one can buy?

  • While I’m generally not a fan of buying points, there’s definitely times where you can use them to get cheaper stays than a cash rate, or to top off wisely. This is one of those cases.

  • Jacqueline parsons says:

With some rooms available at 10,000 points per night this makes a room extremely good value.
If you search for a high end hotel room on ihg if you were planning something special this could make it a very decent return.

  • It’s amazing how often IHG are willing to sell points at a huge discount. There’s almost no point doing the “Points + Cash” cancellation trick any more…

  • I tried to buy 1k points to postpone points expiration day but it doesn’t work, it looks like you need more than 5k points

  • Nice to know this flash sale is going on. Undecided whether to jump in or not, but certainly won’t rule it out immediately.

  • Seems like a good value.
The points breaks are much harder to avail of, unless you plan a trip specifically for them.
I have had one points break night in probably over 4-5 years of IHG stays.

  • charlesj says:

Thank you. I wouldn’t have noticed this if you didn’t post it.

  • perfect thanks for posting this! I’ve been looking at booking my next trip.

  • Maryjane says:

Buying points is part of my current Accelerate Offer. Do you know if this can be stacked with that requirement? If so, it would mean even greater value for those of us who need to do this to complete our challeng.

  • Jason Picker says:

Thanks for the post. Really great offer when using the miles for the IHG PointBreaks. Keep in mind that the list was recently updated, and not due to be updated again until the end of July.

  • JonKarol says:

I’m debating whether to pull the trigger on one of these 100% bonuses, or just sign up for the IHG card and get 80,000 bonus points. Problem is, the redemptions I’m seeking to use points for only come with a value of around .5 cents/point.

  • ANGELO FONSECA says:

    great offer. thanks

  • Will this count as a travel purchase for credit card perspective?

  • Awesome to see this offer back!

  • Awesome! I just stayed at Holiday Inn this past week.

  • I am not big of a majority of there properties. I recently let my points expire. Figured I was never acquiring enough for an intercontinental stay.

  • great bonus! this is the time to buy since 100% is the best discount there is

  • Some great offers around too from ihg at present such as Accelerate. Combine the two together and you have one very good value room rates and bonus points to add to the collection.

  • Thanks for the info! Time to stack up!

  • The_Bouncer says:

Not a bad price, but I would only buy if I had an immediate use for the points (I don’t).

  • I will not buy any points because I have already some points in my accounts.
Anyway, it’s positive seeing a lot of offers in the hotels sector lately.

  • Since I am not traveling too soon where I’ll need a hotel I’ll pass this time. Though it’s hard to pass on 100% bonus! I’m burnt out on birthday present for my family right now and hope this type of promo will pop up again in the future. Have you found that IHG does this every so often?

  • ROBERT CORRAO says:

I just used this offer to round up my IHG points so that I may take advantage of the current 5% bonus when you convert hotel points to AA miles.

  • How does this stack up against recent point offers from other hotel chains

  • Bertrand say says:

They do this so often already.

  • To get maximum value on this promotion you need to buy min 26 000 points for it to drop to $11.5 and get it at 57.5 cents a point with the 100 % bonus . Otherwise the daily getaway promotion can work out better . You need to do the maths .

  • Not a great price, but still modestly lower than what I typically consider IHG points’ worth.

  • It seems as though they do this a lot.

  • Alice Chen says:

Wow, super useful! I don’t have a lot of these points but I like that you can buy some to fill the rest of the points you need to book a room.

  • Not bad but we are getting used to those!

  • Mara D Rice says:

This is definitely worth it if you can get a great discount on the points. We just had a great stay at Cancun Presidente InterContinental for 15000 points per night. Hotel was neck nificent, as well as the beach 🙂
