Bank of America Customized Cash Card
If you want to earn more than 2% cash back on gaming purchases, the Bank of America® Customized Cash Rewards credit card offers 3% cash back on a few categories, including “online shopping.” While online purchases may seem like a vague category, all purchases on Amazon and other e-commerce sites get 3% cash back. But you need to select your category to earn these rewards.
Purchasing video games on the Microsoft Store, the Nintendo eShop, Steam, and the PlayStation Store will all earn 3% cash back as well. Internet plan payments also get the same cash back rate. Just be sure to make your category selection.
The Bank of America Customized Cash Card also earns 2% at grocery stores and wholesale clubs (up to $2,500 in combined choice category/grocery store/wholesale club quarterly purchases), and unlimited 1% on all other purchases. It's a solid option for fueling hours-long gameplay.

U.S. Bank Cash+® Visa Signature® Card
The first two cards are great if you just want a credit card that will get you a solid cash back earnings rate on nearly all gaming purchases. If you prefer shopping around for the best price rather than solely buying from one or two spots, these cards are excellent.
But what if you typically make gaming purchases at certain types of stores? You might want to get a credit card that offers even higher cash back, despite giving up some flexibility.
The U.S. Bank Cash+® Visa Signature® Card is one example. It offers 5% cash back on up to $2,000 in purchases each quarter in up to two categories, one of which is electronic stores. You can also earn 2% cash back at one category of your choosing, including grocery stores, restaurants, or gas stations. Remaining purchases earn 1% cash back.
While purchases at online video game retailers and apps won't earn 5% cash back, buying video games and consoles at more generic electronic retailers like Best Buy and Newegg will earn at this rate.
- Earn a $200 bonus after spending $1,000 in eligible net purchases within the first 90 days of account opening.
- 5% cash back on your first $2,000 in eligible net purchases each quarter on the two categories you choose, 5% cash back on prepaid air, hotel and car reservations booked directly in the Rewards Travel Center, 2% cash back on one everyday category (like gas or groceries), 1% cash back on all other eligible net purchases
- No annual fee
- 5% cash back on your first $2,000 in eligible net purchases each quarter on the two categories you choose
- 5% cash back on prepaid air, hotel and car reservations booked directly in the Rewards Travel Center

U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards™ Visa Signature® Card
If you typically make gaming purchases at Amazon, Best Buy, Target, or Walmart, the U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards™ Visa Signature® Card will earn you 6% cash back on the first $1,500 in purchases each quarter at two of these retailers (as well as additional retailers which typically do not offer gaming products).
You can also earn 3% cash back on your first $1,500 in eligible purchases on your choice of one everyday category (like wholesale clubs, gas and EV charging stations, bills and utilities). All remaining purchases get 1.5% cash back.
Even if you make additional gaming purchases outside of one of the big box retailers listed above or often buy your games at Steam or other online retailers, this is still a great card if you are only applying for one card since you're still getting a solid 1.5% cash back on most purchases, while also getting an incredible 6% on your major video gaming purchases.
- 6% cash back on your first $1,500 in combined eligible purchases each quarter with two retailers you choose
- 3% cash back on your first $1,500 in eligible purchases on your choice of one everyday category (like wholesale clubs, gas and EV charging stations, bills and utilities)
- 1.5% cash back on all other eligible purchases

Prime Visa
So far, we've only been discussing credit cards that banks offer. However, stores also offer their own credit cards. For example, Amazon has the Prime Visa card, which offers surprisingly excellent earning rates:
- Unlimited 5% back at Amazon.com, Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market, and on Chase Travel purchases with an eligible Prime membership
- Unlimited 2% back on local transit and commuting (including rideshare)
- Unlimited 2% back at restaurants and at gas stations
- Unlimited 1% back on all other purchases
For most credit cards, you often have to wait until the statement closes to be able to redeem your cashback. However, the Prime Visa allows you to redeem cashback from a purchase on Amazon as soon as the day after the purchase. If you prefer to use your cashback quickly instead of saving it up, the Prime Visa may be the way to go.

Target Circle Credit Card
The Target Circle Credit Card earns 5% cash back on Target purchases, 2% on dining and gas, and 1% on remaining purchases. Cardholders also qualify for free 2-day shipping.
Even if you do not make many gaming purchases at Target, this is still a great card to consider since the 5% cash back includes specialty gift cards. For example, if you buy a gift card to the Microsoft Store at Target, you'll earn 5% in rewards.
My Best Buy Visa Card
Similar to the Target Circle Credit Card, the My Best Buy Visa Card offers 5% cash back on Best Buy purchases. It also offers 3% back on gas, 2% on dining and grocery purchases, and 1% on other purchases, making it a slightly better card than the Target Circle Card (unless you prefer buying at Target).

PlayStation® Visa® Credit Card
If you exclusively game on a PlayStation and buy video games and downloadable content from the Sony Store, the PlayStation® Visa® Credit Card is a great option. You earn 5x points on all PlayStation and Sony Store purchases, 3x on streaming and Internet purchases, 2x on dining, and 1x on all remaining purchases.
However, points can only be redeemed for digital gift cards and PlayStation store codes. If you plan on using rewards from gaming purchases in other spending categories, this is not the best choice.
That being said, if you're planning on using your PlayStation purchases for more PlayStation purchases, this is a good card to have.
Xbox Mastercard
Xbox gamers also have a card for their own ecosystem. The Xbox Mastercard earns 5x points on all digital Microsoft Store purchases, 3x on streaming purchases and dining delivery services, and 1x on all remaining purchases.
If you only make video game purchases on your Xbox or at the Microsoft Store, this is a great card. However, similar to the PlayStation Visa Card, points can only be applied to gaming purchases or at Microsoft.com, so their redemption value is rather limited.
Bottom Line
There are a lot of credit cards to consider when determining how to get the most rewards for your gaming purchases. If you spend a lot of money at one store or plan on only redeeming rewards on more gaming purchases, getting a store credit card or a gaming-specific credit card is a solid option. Otherwise, the flexibility of a cashback card that offers both great cashback earnings rates and multiple methods of redeeming your cashback is a better path.
