Hyatt runs one of the best hotel loyalty programs around: World of Hyatt. Unlike most hotel programs these days, Hyatt still publishes an award chart. Plus, Hyatt offers deeply loved top-tier elite status. Combine these with excellent co-branded credit cards and reasonable award redemptions, and it's little wonder that World of Hyatt is popular with points and miles enthusiasts.

However, big changes just took effect for this beloved program. Hyatt just adopted a new five-tier award chart, and the before/after comparison isn't great. These changes have many award travelers wondering if the World of Hyatt program is still worth being loyal to.

This guide will cover how to earn and redeem Hyatt points, plus information and strategies for making the most of World of Hyatt. As a loyalty program, we rank it the most valuable hotel points program for award travel fans. Let's dig in.

How To Join the World of Hyatt Rewards Program

The World of Hyatt program is free to join and open to anyone over 18 years old.

Once you've signed up for an account, you'll be assigned a membership number. Write that down and head to AwardWallet to track your Hyatt account along with your other loyalty programs.

Once you've created your new loyalty program account, make sure to link it to your AwardWallet account. Don't have an AwardWallet account yet? Sign up for free and track unlimited rewards programs and travel plans.

Track Your Hyatt Rewards With AwardWallet

AwardWallet makes it easy to keep tabs on your loyalty accounts in one place. For World of Hyatt members, that means tracking your reservations, points balance, elite status, and benefits such as free night certificates and suite upgrades.

This is especially useful for certificates, since expiration dates vary depending on how they’re earned. You can also log in to your Hyatt account with one click instead of re-entering credentials at hyatt.com.

AwardWallet Plus members can also see the history of points earned and redeemed, progress toward the next tier of elite status, and the individual expiration dates for all their free nights and upgrades. Plus, AwardWallet sends email reminders when your benefits are nearing expiration, so nothing slips through the cracks.

To track your Hyatt rewards and other account information, just add your World of Hyatt login.

World of Hyatt Hotels: Brands and Properties

World of Hyatt continues to grow and now has over 35 hotel brands in its portfolio — including many added in recent years.

The hotels range from boutique chains with a handful of properties (like Thompson Hotels) to Hyatt's global full-service standard: Hyatt Regency. You can find Hyatt's abundant limited-service Hyatt Place and Hyatt House brands all over the United States and near airports in multiple countries.

Newer concepts, such as Caption by Hyatt, blur the line between full service and select service, while brands like UrCove cater to specific regional audiences.

world of hyatt brand list
Credit: Hyatt

Park Hyatt is the flagship luxury brand in the portfolio, and this is complemented by other wellness and lifestyle brands such as Miraval and Andaz. You can find more variety in independent brands, such as the Hyatt Unbound Collection, Bunkhouse, and The Standard hotels.

World of Hyatt currently boasts over 1,500 properties across 83 countries. This means that it offers less coverage than other major brands. IHG One Rewards, Marriott Bonvoy, Hilton Honors, and Wyndham Rewards all boast over 5,000 hotels globally. However, World of Hyatt has definitely improved its footprint in recent years and is now found in most major markets.

Here are the number of properties and total rooms by brand as of March 31, 2026:

In addition to these brands, World of Hyatt currently partners with:

  • Mr and Mrs Smith: 1,272 properties
  • Hyatt Vacation Club: 22 properties

The Hyatt and MGM partnership ended in 2023. Thus, MGM properties are no longer options for earning or redeeming Hyatt points or getting credit for hotel stays (instead, check out Marriott's partnership with MGM).

There are two casino hotels in Las Vegas where you can earn and use Hyatt points: the Rio Las Vegas and the Venetian.

Participating property exceptions

As Hyatt has expanded through acquisitions and partnerships, not every affiliated property participates in World of Hyatt in the same way. Some locations are entirely nonparticipating, meaning stays may not earn points, qualify for elite credit, or allow award redemptions.

Others are classified as “limited participating properties.” These hotels may allow points earning but restrict redemptions or elite benefits. For example, Ventana Campground — a glamping experience affiliated with Alila Ventana Big Sur — does not provide on-property Hyatt elite benefits or access to the Alila resort amenities. Similarly, some Destination by Hyatt Residences properties may exclude Free Night Awards or Suite Upgrade Awards.

Hyatt maintains a full list of nonparticipating and limited participating properties in its terms and conditions.

How To Earn Hyatt Points

Stay at Hyatt hotels

The most straightforward way to earn Hyatt rewards points is by staying at Hyatt properties with your World of Hyatt loyalty number attached to the reservation. You earn 5 points per dollar spent (before taxes) on room rate and qualifying charges. In addition, elite members earn 10%, 20%, or 30% bonuses, depending on their status level.

  • Member: 5 base points per dollar
  • Discoverist: 5.5 base points per dollar (10% bonus)
  • Explorist: 6 base points per dollar (20% bonus)
  • Globalist: 6.5 base points per dollar (30% bonus)

Here’s an example from one of my stays. The nightly rate was $154 before taxes and $203.50 after taxes and fees. As a Hyatt Globalist member paying with my The World of Hyatt Credit Card, I earned:

  • 5X base points on $154 = 770 points
  • 30% bonus points as a Globalist member = 231 bonus points
  • 4X points on $203.50 charge to my World of Hyatt Card = 814 points

The total haul from the stay: 1,815 points.

Based on recent AwardWallet user redemptions, World of Hyatt points provide around 2.19¢ per point in value. That's a pretty good return for the stay!

You can convert your Ultimate Rewards points to World of Hyatt points at a 1:1 ratio, and transfers usually process immediately. Transferring Ultimate Rewards points to World of Hyatt is a decent deal. You can usually get around 1.7 cents per Hyatt point on hotel bookings. However, I generally try to stretch them to over 2.0 cents each by using Hyatt rewards when room prices are especially high.

Some newer partners, such as Mr & Mrs Smith, use variable pricing rather than Hyatt’s traditional award chart, with redemption values ranging roughly from 1.3 to nearly 3 cents per point. The Venetian Resort in Las Vegas has also adopted more dynamic pricing.

You can also transfer Bilt Rewards points to World of Hyatt. These transfers also happen 1:1, but you'll have to transfer a minimum of 2,000 points (1,000 if you're Bilt Silver, Gold, or Platinum). Transfers usually process immediately.

World of Hyatt promotions

World of Hyatt routinely runs limited-time promotions, often featuring bonus points on paid stays, discounted award pricing, or additional elite night credits. Occasionally, co-branded cardholders may see targeted offers with enhanced earning opportunities.

I don’t typically plan trips around these offers, but they can add meaningful value when they align with existing travel plans.

AwardWallet maintains a running list of current loyalty program promotions, including Hyatt offers. You can also check Hyatt's dedicated page, which may have offers targeted specifically to you. If you have the World of Hyatt Card, you can check Chase's quarterly spending bonus promotions and enroll here. Finally, Hyatt has made recent updates to its app and website to show what current promotions are available and if you've enrolled or not.

You'll need to register in advance to get credit for most promotions. Make sure to read the terms to ensure your stay qualifies.

Earn Hyatt points from meetings and events

Meeting planners and event organizers can earn World of Hyatt bonus points for hosting qualifying events at Hyatt properties. You’ll earn 1 bonus point per eligible dollar spent, up to 50,000 bonus points per event. These points can be divided among up to three planners associated with the event.

Hyatt also allows members to redeem points for meeting credits, though the redemption value is generally lower than what you’ll get from free night awards.

For full details, visit Hyatt’s meetings and events page.

World of Hyatt-American Airlines partnership

Hyatt partners with American Airlines to offer reciprocal benefits between World of Hyatt and AAdvantage.

Hyatt members can select certain American Airlines perks as Milestone Rewards at specific qualifying-night thresholds. These options replace other Milestone choices, such as bonus points or Suite Upgrade Awards. Current selections include:

  • 20 qualifying nights: Two Preferred Seat Coupons
  • 30 qualifying nights: Two Preferred Seat Coupons
  • 40 qualifying nights: Two Main Cabin Extra seat coupons
  • 50 qualifying nights: Two Main Cabin Extra seat coupons
  • 70, 80, or 90 qualifying nights: AAdvantage Gold status for a full membership year
  • 100, 110, 120, 130, 140, or 150 qualifying nights: AAdvantage Platinum status for a full membership year

Meanwhile, AAdvantage members can unlock Hyatt perks through Loyalty Point Rewards.

Buy World of Hyatt points

Hyatt allows members to purchase up to 55,000 points per year. The standard price is 2.4 cents per point, though there are frequent promotions to buy Hyatt points for less.

The best price we ever saw was in early 2024, when Hyatt briefly sold points for just 1.54¢ each. However, that seemed to be a mistake. The best offer we've seen recently was in April 2025, when Hyatt offered a 25% discount, reducing the cost to just 1.95¢ per point.

Here's the current offer and average timing for points to post to your account, based on AwardWallet user data points:

Share World of Hyatt points

Hyatt rewards points can easily be transferred between members. You must fill out the World of Hyatt Point Combining Request Form and email it to worldofhyatt@hyatt.com. Or you can also mail it to the provided address. Finally, if you have a concierge as a World of Hyatt Globalist, you can reach out to them for help.

World of Hyatt has announced it will introduce a new feature later in 2026 to let members digitally share points with friends or family. Much like the current functionality to share other milestone rewards, this will make the ability to combine points much more user-friendly.

World of Hyatt members may only transfer or receive points once every 30 days.

Best Ways To Redeem Hyatt Points

Hyatt maintains a published award chart, with pricing determined by two factors: a hotel’s category and the applicable redemption tier for your dates.

On May 20, 2026, World of Hyatt expanded from a previous three-tier (off-peak, standard, peak) structure to a current five pricing levels: Lowest, Low, Moderate, Upper, and Top.

For bookings made prior to May 20, 2026, if the pricing after the award chart changes went into effect results in a lower award cost, Hyatt will automatically refund the difference in points. If changes to the award chart result in pricing increases, existing reservations will be honored and won't be repriced upward.

Once a year, World of Hyatt reevaluates the Category rank of many properties, resulting in many hotels going up one level in the award chart while a only a few get demoted one category level. We maintain a list of properties participating in this shuffle as well as the exact date the Hyatt Category Change Day is observed each year.

Award nights start at 3,000 points per night for Category 1 properties at the lowest tier and can reach 75,000 points per night for Category 8 properties at the highest tier. Members can also redeem additional points to book club-level rooms or suites, or use points to upgrade an existing reservation.

In many cases, booking a club room outright with points offers better value than upgrading after booking. However, upgrading to a standard or premium suite can make sense at higher-category properties where cash rates are especially high.

Credit: Hyatt

Hyatt maintains a separate award chart for its all-inclusive resorts. Award nights start at 12,000 points per night for Category A properties at the lowest tier and go up to 85,000 points per night for Category F properties at the highest tier.

These rates are based on single or double occupancy and increase for additional guests.

Miraval destination resorts also have a separate award chart. Nights start at 40,000 points per night for single occupancy in a standard room and reach up to 160,000 points per night for double occupancy in a premium suite.

Hyatt offers Points + Cash rates. You pay half of the points cost and half of the going rate in cash. This usually means your points will be worth less than a full redemption.

Resort fees are waived on award stays. Globalists also receive resort fee waivers on eligible paid stays.

Searching for award availability

Hyatt generally makes award nights available whenever standard rooms are open for cash bookings. If standard rooms are sold out, you may still see availability for club-level rooms or suites at higher point prices.

To search for award stays, visit hyatt.com and select the “Use Points” option before running your search.

Hyatt rewards sweet spots

Hyatt has plenty of properties that offer very good value, but there are several excellent sweet spots in Hyatt's portfolio. Here are a handful of popular hotels that offer great value:

  • Hyatt Centric Kuala Lumpur (Category 1)
  • Grand Hyatt Bali (Category 3)
  • Hyatt Centric Malta (Category 3)
  • Alila Ubud (Category 4)
  • Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur (Category 3)
  • Hyatt Regency Mexico City (Category 4)
  • Park Hyatt Siem Reap (Category 4)
  • Andaz Savannah (Category 4)
  • Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort (Category 5)
  • Park Hyatt Saigon (Category 5)
  • Park Hyatt Chicago (Category 6)
  • Hana-Maui Resort (Category 7)

Brand Explorer

Hyatt has a standing offer that lets you earn free nights by staying at different Hyatt brands. Through the Hyatt Brand Explorer, you'll earn a Category 1–4 Free Night Award for every five brands. You can earn a Category 1–4 Free Night Award up to seven times by staying at five different Hyatt brands. Currently, over 35 brands participate, and your progress is tracked in the Brand Explorer section of your Hyatt account.

Hyatt Free Night Awards

World of Hyatt offers three types of Free Night Awards: Category 1–4 awards, Category 1–7 awards, and the Ultimate Free Night Award, which can be used at any participating Hyatt property worldwide. You can track your Free Night Awards in your Hyatt account, through the mobile app, or via AwardWallet.

Hyatt's “Pay My Way” feature allows you to combine cash, points, and Free Night Awards within a single reservation. When booking a multinight stay, check the nightly award pricing carefully — point costs can vary by date.

To maximize value, use your Free Night Award on the night that would otherwise require the most points.

Other uses of World of Hyatt points

Redeeming Hyatt points for free nights typically provides the strongest value. However, there are other redemption options.

Members can use points on-property at participating locations for dining and spa experiences. These redemptions are generally worth 1 cent per point for charges up to $75, and up to 1.54 cents per point for higher redemption amounts.

Hyatt points can also be redeemed for FIND experiences, typically at a rate of about 1.4 cents per point.

Finally, you can convert Hyatt points to airline miles or redeem Hyatt points for Avis car rentals. However, the latter is a very poor value at 6,000 points per day for an intermediate-sized car. You generally lose on transfers to airline miles as well. These are the options and rates:

Redeeming World of Hyatt Free Nights

Unlike award stays, where you'll need more points when staying at a hotel when pricing fluctuates between the low and high end, Fee Night Awards aren't affected by Hyatt's redemption levels (previously peak and off-peak) pricing. Category 1–4 Free Nights Awards are valid at any hotels in those categories, regardless of the points pricing in effect. The same applies to Category 1–7 Free Night Awards.

To maximize value, aim to redeem these certificates at the top end of their eligible category. For example, using a Category 1–4 Free Night Award at a higher-priced Category 4 property will typically provide more value than redeeming it at a low-cost Category 1 hotel.

How To Achieve World of Hyatt Elite Status

There are currently three tiers of World of Hyatt elite status:

Membership TierNightsBase Points
Member--
Discoverist1025,000
Explorist3050,000
Globalist60100,000
Lifetime Globalist-1,000,000 Lifetime Base Points

Members can qualify for elite status based on either qualifying nights or base points earned in a calendar year. Qualifying nights include most paid stays and award nights. Qualifying points are the base points earned on room rates and on eligible on-property spending.

It's also possible to qualify for status through hosting meetings and events, and travel planning. Event organizers and travel advisors, as well as Hyatt Leverage Administrators, will earn two elite nights per $5,000 in eligible spend each year. This is capped at 60 elite nights earned through this method each calendar year.

Hyatt members who earn Guest of Honor Awards as a Milestone Reward, starting at 40 elite nights, will earn one elite night every time their award is used.

Elite status earned in a calendar year is valid through the end of February, two years later. For example, if you qualify for Globalist status in 2026, your benefits will remain active through February 2028.

Holding the World of Hyatt Card provides automatic Discoverist status. Cardholders can also earn two elite night credits for every $5,000 spent. The World of Hyatt Business Credit Card offers five elite night credits for every $10,000 spent. With enough spending, it’s possible to spend your way to Globalist status without setting foot in a Hyatt hotel.

Lifetime Hyatt Globalist Status

World of Hyatt offers lifetime Globalist status. Qualification is based solely on base points earned — not elite nights — and requires 1,000,000 base points over the lifetime of your account. That equates to $200,000 in eligible spend at Hyatt properties.

Guest of Honor bookings

One of the nicest benefits of the World of Hyatt program is the ability to make “Guest of Honor” bookings for friends and family. Previously a Globalist benefit, a Guest of Honor Award is now granted to World of Hyatt members starting at 40 elite nights. Two more are granted at 60 elite nights, and then 70, 80, 90, 110, 120, 130, and 140 elite nights, respectively.

Through Guest of Honor, others can enjoy your Globalist status benefits even if you're not staying with them. It's available for both paid and award stays, and you can book these awards online. You may also apply the award to a reservation by calling Hyatt at 1 (800) 323-7249, emailing your concierge, or contacting Hyatt Concierge's Twitter to make a Guest of Honor booking. Or simply send the award to your friend or family member for them to book their stay.

Final Thoughts

World of Hyatt remains my favorite hotel loyalty program. Top-tier elite status once felt out of reach, but the World of Hyatt Card has made it far more attainable thanks to elite night credits earned through spending. Between its published award chart, strong portfolio, and meaningful elite benefits, Hyatt strikes a compelling balance for award travelers.

The main limitation is its smaller footprint compared to competitors. However, Hyatt continues to expand into new markets, making it easier to find participating properties worldwide. For many travelers, that growth only strengthens the long-term appeal of the World of Hyatt program.
