American Express recently revamped its personal The Platinum Card® from American Express card — which hasn't been great news to many. With these huge changes to the personal version, we've all sat around holding our breath and wondering if something similar would happen with The Business Platinum Card® from American Express.
Fortunately, it seems that the card has remained untouched so far. Except for one little thing Amex snuck in overnight. And it's good news. The Amex Business Platinum Card now includes a $189 (formerly $179) annual CLEAR statement credit.
If you aren't aware of the changes to the personal Amex Platinum, check out this post for details on all of the changes.
Note: Enrollment is required for select Amex benefits.
Amex Business Platinum Card CLEAR Credit Key Terms
- Receive up to $189 in statement credits per year
- You must pay for CLEAR with your Business Platinum Card
- You can enroll in CLEAR here.
- The primary cardholder and any authorized users on the account are eligible for statement credits, but the total cannot exceed $189 per year.
- CLEAR membership automatically renews each year. You'll receive a notice 30 days before your card is charged.
In short, the Business Platinum Card is effectively offering a CLEAR membership reimbursement in the form of a statement credit. You need to first enroll in CLEAR and then you can pay for the membership — which happens to cost $189 annually — with your Business Platinum Card. You should see the statement credit on your account in 2-4 weeks.
Cardholders will receive the CLEAR credit each year. CLEAR will automatically charge your account each year. As long as you leave your Business Platinum Card saved as the form of payment, there is nothing else you need to do to enjoy this benefit.
What is CLEAR?
CLEAR is a service that uses biometric data to verify and confirm your identity so you can speed through security. It's only available within the United States, but it includes 50+ locations and offers services at both airports and stadiums.
Personally, I haven't used CLEAR, but lots of people really love it. Check out this post in our Facebook community AwardTravel 101 to see what members have to say about CLEAR.

Final Thoughts
If you value CLEAR and can maximize this benefit, this can make the hefty $695 annual fee (Rates & Fees) of the Business Platinum Card more palatable. Even better, this credit is available each year and not just a one-time offer.
For those who don't value this CLEAR reimbursement, the card can still be very valuable thanks to the giant welcome bonuses, a plethora of perks, generous retention offers, authorized user promotions, and Amex sync deals.
Are you happy about this new perk?

I think is a HUGE bonus that most people don’t realize is a lot more valuable than the dollar amount. If anyone values their time, then CLEAR is huge these days. With so many people going back to the airports to travel, and the airports being understaffed with quality employees, the lines are longer than ever and you can easily miss a flight waiting to go through security. I just flew this past weekend and I was very thankful I had CLEAR. I’m definitely going to check out this credit card ASAP.
I signed up myself and one family member – total $169 will report back if it works but that’s a few months away since I stacked a free 3 month promo also
Anyone successful getting the credit of $169-179 total for themselves and +1 family members with an elite discount from United or Delta?
Is this Clear credit available on the personal card?
Yes! That was part of the major update we published about here: https://awardwallet.com/blog/amex-platinum-new-credits-increased-fee/
A not bad benefit but not sure if it justifies the annual fee hike.
Are different rebates enough to completely offset the full annual card member fee?
Yes, certainly. But, ideally, the rebates are on items you would have otherwise purchased, so they truly save you money. Then, the card and fee make perfect sense.
A nice to have benefit to be sure, but not as compelling as the more flexible benefits such as the airline or Uber credits that could be used more readily….this may be the bump CLEAR needs though to finally go mainstream.
Wish they would add this to the gold card.
I took advantage of the recent 150K offer on the card, met the spend and the points were quickly deposited in my account, and I’m very grateful for them, but I don’t see myself jumping through all the hoops they put up to earn the other credits, especially ones like Clear with little value to me. I prefer the olden days of the card ?.
I wonder if this new CLEAR credit applies to existing cards?
Yes, existing cardmembers will get this benefit too.
Thanks for pointing to this service. Can’t wait for CLEAR to extend to international locations.
